Beautiful, virtuosic and maybe rushed at the ends of phrases in my opinion, but I love his playing! The fifth variation is a very fine example of making a very difficult piece of music sound incredibly easy. Thank you once again Sergei!
@James9533 He also said that his playing style feels more natural and that he maximizes his airflow in this manner. Although, I have to admit - I would never play like that.
@JoseFerreira that's your opinion and the fact is that both are extraordinary players. When you become successful at a anything, you learn to appreciate and respect what others have to offer, so respect Sergei's work.
I think he was in a car accident that messed up his spine so much that he couldn't play piano (his first instrument) for extended periods of time, since you have to sit down.
@josephxerritrumpet .The problem with classic music is .Its tone and tech,of course your have to have the tech. Both of these player have it. It would be very difficult to say who is playing if they were hidden.
What happened to the video of him playing this in much better quality? I've been trying to find it for like 30 minutes. Don't tell me youtube deleted it =(
Brilliant. The reason I love this man's playing is that of all the trumpeters who have wonderful technique these days, this guy plays with great musicality. It sounds like music, not just a show-off piece. And he plays it like a trumpet, not like a cornet. A live performance so you can forgive the odd fluff. Thanks for posting.
ooh la la, I like his ending. And yeah, no performance is perfect! Though, I do agree that you're not trying to sound arrogant. and what's with the thumbs down for liking Wynton's version better? Just opinions!
lol, seriously m8??? u tryin to compare to a master, if i was that good i wouldnt be posting comments on here man, but look at some of the great interpretations of this piece and not one has a split note, for example the wynton recording, on even the john clough recording with dyke, i advise u listen to their recordings at tell me to have a look and point out a point where they split a note, id like to make a bet on that
seems abit unfair to judge me for pointing out a mistake is it, i was just stating there was one, if you could find a mistake in a performace of this by Wynton on John Clough with Blake Dyke, do let me no, because i think youd be hard pushed to find a mistake quite so prominent, thats all, i wasnt putting his musicality into question, but juxtaposed with some instrumentalists this is slightly lapsing in the same quality, thats my point in its entirety
BS. This is a live performance, not a recording. Of course, if you listen to recordings, they will be flawless, but how many interprets are going to play that piece live at the right tempo totally flawlessly every time from beginning to end? Not one.
he has an iteresting interperetation but very good, definately one of the best, and he's one of the best trumpet players ever. However, Winton's version of this songs is the best ever. .........but Sergei's moto perpetuo shows his real skill!
@charvinaldo there are many different interpretations of every song that is out there and no single interpretation is the "best" its all about the listener's perspective. As one might say "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"
those of you who have played this piece will agree-it is not hardest piece in the world...it is an etude in e flat and excellent first finger technique...
PLEASE DON'T READ THIS!!!!! in 1964 13 year old Elisa Johnson was raped and murdered in North Carolina, her body was found with multiple stab wounds, and now that you've read this, every night she will come to your house and hang from your closet with glowing red eyes, the only way to stop this is to post this to 10 other videos.
Thanks to anyone who posts all of these Sergei videos! There were three other ones on here about five months ago that were very good. One was an interview of him.
Most trumpet players in the know agree that Sergei is quite possibly the best trumpet player who has ever lived and may be the best who will every live. Listen to his album 'No Limit' -- end of story. He has an unreal control over his sound, color, range etc. He is astonishing the finest trumpet artists the world over.
Why do these guys always play 'Carnival de Venice' in their repertoire?
What's wrong with playing all the other 30-odd Solos and Etudes which Arban himself did play no doubt in front of very critical audiences in the late 1900's (but obviously not recorded)
Also, what about the 'Etudes' etc in the 'St. Jacome Cornet Tutor'!
Nakariakov, could you please play some or perchance record ALL of these unknown pieces on a DVD (or whatever)?
tandrus7 - By "boring", all I'm suggesting is that virtually every top player includes this piece in their repertoire to the exclusion of the many other solos that Arban wrote - some of which were even much more technically demanding.
Would be nice to hear those occasionally.
I do not question the playing and ability of Sergie (and others) which is unquestionably brilliant.
The reason Carnival of Venice is played the most often is because it's a familiar tune and many variations have been written for other instruments as well such as the violin. If you think compositions by Arban and moto perpetuo (by Paganini - transcribed for trumpet) are the hardest pieces in terms of technique, you need to listen more.
He has recorded Variations on Bellini's Norma and Variations on a Tyrolean Song in case you didn't know. Recording ALL the Arban solos? Are you serious? There's about 30 (may be about 50 including the etudes)!
A) Faster- Sergey has a ridiculous flight of the bumblebee video which counts for a quick tempo. But Rafael Mendez can do it with his back straight. Let's hear Sergei play The Green Hornet.
B) Louder- He has a nice sound, but doesn't play nearly as loud as Vizzutti/Marsalis. Pianissimo?? are you kidding!?
C) Higher- A conservative Bb. Huge props there.
D) Bonus points for playing with horn upside-down? none.
To the offended classical fanboy: all trumpet players are idiots.
a) Can't play double F at the end of Carnival of Venice like Wynton, so he takes it down at the end and plays Bb just above the staff
b) Can't double tongue octaves like Allen so who cares if he can play staccato. Arturo Sandoval can play more difficult music up 2 octaves, with perfect staccato, dancing circles around this emo kid.
c) Gets owned in any way, sense, form, or fashion, by Allen Vizzuti. Plus Sergey can't play with his horn upside-down.
a) The score does not end with a double F, who cares if Wynton does it.
b) Listen to "Echoes from the past" recording, where he does a perfect octave double staccato, very fast and pianissimo as Vizzutti could never do. Sandoval just plays high as nobody can, but it's a different kind of music. When he plays classical, he's nothing compared to Nakariakov.
c) Vizzutti can only spread fast and non accurate legato shit, and he just isn't as accurate and technically good as Nakariakov.
By the way, playing the horn upside down is just for circus and idiots like you that go WOW at that shit lol! This comment of you is enough to tell you're either a little kid or a complete idiot. Go back to soccer, soccerdude1239... you can't play trumpet, but maybe you can kick a ball.
The only trumpet player that can be compared to Nakariakov is Maurice Andre and his marvellous sound.
do me a favor and post a video of yourself performing this better... until then shut the fuck up... listen to that sound, the absolutely perfect phrasing, yes "phrasing" (perhaps you've heard of it, if you weren't busy creaming your pants about double f's and c's)... too many players (myself included) are obsessed with high notes, but traditional concert trumpet doesn't ever really go above a high D... leave the squealing to maynard and other jazz greats
First of all, he plays a concert G which is an A in the trumpet he's playing. Secondly, please go listen to Sergei play the 1st mov't of the Haydn Trumpet Concerto. The cadenza he plays clearly shows his master of multiple tonguings as well as his range.
Vizzutti my ass! Vizzutti just can't play as clean, perfect and fast as Nakariakov, especially on staccato. All the other great trumpet players like Marsalis and Vizzutti can only dream Sergei's accuracy and perfection. Probably the best trumpet player EVER, never misses a single note even when he plays live.
At 4:29 he does something not perfectly right, only for that second... but who cares? You must be either really stupid or totally ignorant about music. Or maybe both. Everyone makes wrong notes, especially trumpet players... but Sergei just makes NO wrong note, ever. And listen to his MUSIC, to his wonderful tone and interpretation... and to the AMAZING SPEED!!! There is no Vizzutti or anyone else that can play those Arban's variations as fast, ACCURATE and clean as Nakariakov! He is the best!!!
@dreddastaipas only a trumpet player would say something so retarded. of course they are better than me. i bet i can make a better sandwich than them tho. got MAD skillz
Most trumpet players in the know agree that Sergei is quite possibly the best trumpet player who has ever lived and may be the best who will every live. what kind of trumpet does sergei play on?
haydn25 4 years ago
In this video he's playing a standard B-flat trumpet, I don't know the make/model though.

IMO playing his horn upside down is the only thing where Zoot has the advantage over Nakariakov.
I do think Nakariakov is a little cleaner than Vizzuti though

WTF is wrong with you ppl go to hell and stay there, come back when you are a tasy roastbif.

the carnival of venice is easy. if he was a real man he would attempt to play carnival of VENUS. and yeah, that horn does suck at 0:15.

Oh really then what about at 4:25-4:30??
REPRESENTA08 3 years ago
At 4:29 he does something not perfectly right, only for that second... but who cares? You must be either really stupid or totally ignorant about music. Or maybe both. Everyone makes wrong notes, especially trumpet players... but Sergei just makes NO wrong note, ever. And listen to his MUSIC, to his wonderful tone and interpretation... and to the AMAZING SPEED!!! There is no Vizzutti or anyone else that can play those Arban's variations as fast, ACCURATE and clean as Nakariakov! He is the best!!!

Allen Vizzutti is the BEST.
trumpet1977 4 years ago
Sergei has a great control in the lower and middle ranges, however i wonder how he would sound in the upper registers compared to Allen Vizzutti?
8011255198086 4 years ago
Most trumpet players in the know agree that Sergei is quite possibly the best trumpet player who has ever lived and may be the best who will every live. Listen to his album 'No Limit' -- end of story. He has an unreal control over his sound, color, range etc. He is astonishing the finest trumpet artists the world over.
