  • Absolutely FANTASIC Large cent!! Great hunt!

  • wow! great video everytime i find a large cent they are barley readable if you can read them at all. congrats on your finds

  • toiceborn, i AVE RECENTLY STARTED METAL DETECTING . I HAVE A BOUNTY HUNTER ALL I FIND IS SCREWS AND NAILS AT THE BEACH I FOUND A 2007 PENNY, ANY TIPS?

  • If you work the dry sand, the BH will be OK. However, if you work the wet sand, I don't the BH will be able to handle it... I started out with one and found some cool stuff. Keep digging :)

  • Very good video! Wirklich gutes Video!

  • Goooooood vid :)

  • im gonna go try metal detecting tomorrow i dont realy care what i find ive never found a coin only new ones but i hope i find one and hunting a cow field and i hope i get some old cow and maybe farmer buckles or somats i dont mind anything will do.

  • So? How did you do in the cow field?

  • I'm about to start metal detecting, i'm getting a viking 6. Any tips?

  • Sorry for taking so long to get back to you.... Did you get your new machine yet?

  • i use a dfx not for beginer i wanted to wrap that thig around a tree on several occassions.but now after three years wouldnt trde it for nothing else. great hunt and great finds. good luck in your hunting all!coin shooter for life.

  • say that 'big' coin may be 'continental currency',get out the red book on it......AL

  • SMOKESLOW4U... Its a LARGE cent!

  • I live in Ca so i plan on using the Whites GMT for gold hunting. At 950 oz. i wont waste time digging up trash. You guys sound like your from back east w/those accents.

  • What accents? LOL

Always wanted to do some gold hunting. The only "gold hunting" here is at the beach. Still, you have to dig aluminum trash / nickels if you want to find gold.

  • Do you keep the coins in a collection or do you sell them to dealers?

  • I haven't found many that are actually worth much... but even so, I just put them away.

  • Nice find Guys well done, check out what I have found in the Uk, Nice to see you guys using Minelabs

  • Hi R2! I've seen many of your finds on the Minelab owners site. I envy all of you across the pond; having all that history there. Here, a 200 year old coin is big news LOL. My personal best, and about as old as you can get around here, was a Wm & Mary Colonial 1/2 cent circa 1690.

As far as the Exp II is concerned, I wouldn't use any other.

  • what kind of detector do you use?

  • I can't find where or if you said what the U.S. item turned out to be. Great videos and thanks for getting right to the actual finds.

  • if your a begginner theres no better detector is a whites classic sl as i just gotout of my begginer stage. im 17 i should know. anyways great find.

  • i want to start metal detecting...what kind of metal detector would you suggest for a beginner...im 14 years old and as you could probably guess my price range is low...so please advise me...it'd be great

    Thank you.

  • For a beginner, I'd recommend a Garrett Ace 250. You can probably find a used one relatively cheap on Ebay. Go with a name brand like Whites, Fisher, Garrett, Tesoro or Minelab. Research the models by going to metal detecting forums and asking people who actually use them. Don't rely on written "reviews". Don't buy the first one you see that looks good. Good Luck!

  • Garret Ace 250 is excellent.

  • Great finds & video

  • Thanks crunch :)

  • what kind of detector do you use?? Also starting with out your buddie by an hour early? Doesnt seem fair to get a head start on him. Are you still friends?? What is better sand or dirt detecting

  • I use an Minelab Explorer II. Yes, yes... I started an hour early. I admit it :) Problem is, I'm a real early bird. I'm up before the crack of dawn every morning. Are we still friends? We met through one of my other videos... I shared a spot and he shared a couple... think I'll email him to say hello :)

  • it says u.s mill or still ,not sure

  • What did you find out about the copper plaque?

  • Nothing really... no one's ever been able to ID it. I tend to think it's just an ornamental piece of some sort.

  • Oh ok. Also, I am a teenager looking for some info on metal detecting. Treasure hunting has always been one of my dreams to do, but my parents wouldn't let me buy a detector. I am getting one in a week and plan to go on my cousin's "farm" to search around. The farm itself has been around for a long time, and the former owners buried any scrap metal they got, so it will be interesting. Do you have any websites that can give me info about metal detecting? Like how to not damage the items I find.

  • Or how to find out how much the item is worth or to keep it or not to keep it. Because me cousin informed me that there are old parts of tractors and other macherney.

    Any info will help.

    Thanks.

  • i have a tip when you dig for items use a plastic shovel that way you don't scratch the coin/item

  • Ok Thanks. I appreciate all the help.

  • it looks like a lid to some type of tin box.

  • i live in oak reek wisconsin along the coast of lake michigan and theres nothin really old and artifacty in my neighbor hood to detect

    any advice?

    p.s. i have a quick silver detector

  • How do you know there's nothing "old"? Research. Go to library, look on line. What's the history of your area? When was it settled? Are there any parks near you? What was the park before it became a park? Old homesteads? Maybe an old Fairground? Street names can be a clue as to what used to be there before houses went up. Try to find old pictures. Talk to some "old timers". Maybe they played someplace as a kid, went to an old swimming hole... etc.

    Good luck!

    joe

  • the bullet is a .50 cal from probably ww2 =] worth about $10.00 for the slug.

  • That is a great coin to find man yall need to show some of the digging because that is a task to dig up those coins.

  • Im not sure if anyone has said this already but please stop rubbing the dirt against the coin! it causes deep scratches and hurts the value of the coin.

  • Yep, I'm well aware of that :) I only do that on coins that are well worn or basically toast (like the LC). copper coins don't fair well in soil so I'm not exactly ruining them by giving them a little rub :)

  • Ok great :) it hurts me to see it happen to nice coins. I just recently got back into detecting and Ive noticed alot of detectors don't know alot about coins but only have a basic knowledge.

  • I've learned quite a bit from other forums and research over the years. There are also a lot of great coin sites around that give a ton of info on history, etc. Pretty interesting. My oldest is a very worn Wm&Mary half cent circa 1690-1694 that I picked up in the woods. I'm still looking for the the holy grail in a gold coin though :) (that one I will NOT rub in the least LOL )

  • Nice. I've never metal detected before but I'm going to this spring. As soon as the ground thaws that is. Any tips on soil accumulation?

  • What do you mean by "soil accumulation" ?

  • how do you clean them?

  • Looks to me that the mystery item has a bundle of wheat on it...Like after you cut it down with a scythe and wrap it up.

  • You know, you may be right :)

    thanks!

  • What was the unknown metal item?

  • You know, I don't think he ever figured that one out... Some things remain a mystery :) I'll ask him the next time we get together.

  • I just got a garrett ace 250 and im itchin to get out and look, but I have to wait till winter is over :(

  • use a frisbee istead of the cloth towel for dirt containment

  • A coin of 1843 looks very nice! I walk along with metal detector for about 1 year and by the moment I have collected some 70 coins of Russia and Germany. What is the oldest coin you found?

  • my oldest coin was found a couple of weeks ago. It's a William and Mary British colonial copper. Not in the greatest shape (no date) but they were only made between 1690 and 1694.

  • you should post another video after you cleaned em up a bit

  • Very inspiring. Great job!

    NPC

  • I'd love to do this hobby, but would'nt know what to buy. how expensive in £££s do you need to spend to find coins at a depth of 8" or so?

  • o and i live near vancouver

  • hi i live in canada B.C does any one have anny good places were i could go

  • nice finds. i also have found a large cent or two. i was wondering if you or any one would rell me how to properly clean it as not to destroy its value. thanks for any info. it will be greatly appreaciated.

  • The rule of thumb is, if you even THINK something is valuable don't clean it. It should be done professionally. When it comes out of the ground don't rub the dirt off... If a coin looks to be in really good condition, just wrap it in some paper towels or something like that. Some guys use old prescription containers with a little water in them. Copper coins around here don't fair too well. I've cleaned the few I've found a couple of different ways and cleaned the detail right off :)

  • thanks for the info. ive also made that mistake and thats why i was asking i have used olive oil and that works ok. i have also seen on ebay coin cleaning kits and im not sure if that would be worth investing in. the cleaning product was called e-z-est and it was made for copper. have you ever used it or heard of it?

  • I really enjoyed your vids....I would love to find things like you did...looking forward to more...thanks! Frazz

  • Just takes a little research, time and a lot of digging :) If you want to dig "treasures", you have to be patient and dig a LOT of junk :)

  • Does anyone know if its illegal to scout around gravesites with the detector and digging? there´s an old cemetary up in the woods where I live, never had the guts to check it out tho :p

  • It's not the legality that's in question, it's how ethical it is... I'd say you could MD the perimeter provided it's not private property but I would draw the line at digging over graves. It just doesn't look right. Personally, I wouldn't want someone digging around my loved one's grave. If you have to ask the question, you probably already know the answer :)

  • Do you know if it is illegal to M.D. within a state park? I've been told by a couple of friends that it was....

  • I think that depends on where you are. I'm on Long Island and can hunt in the state parks here as long as I have a permit. On the beach (State parks) you also need a permit but I've never been asked to show one. However, when digging dirt in State parks, I've been asked to show a permit often.

  • Allright, thanks a bunch! I'll have to ask around at the parks near me...

  • Nice coin!

  • Please do more of these! You have the best md videos here.

  • :) Thanks... I hope to do more in the next few months. I'm just really lazy when it comes to actually bringing the camera and using it :)

  • You got some really nice old finds there, my brother should see this, he bought the new Minelab SE, about 2 months ago and really likes it

  • Thanks for sharing. Cool finds. HH...alexisntx
