Nope not fake, I know cause I've got this one. I blew the litle 3" speaker in it, so I tore the box open and looked at the ratios and all that Pete used with this one. Not so I could upsize it, so that I could build another one!! Fun little toy!
so...does this mean that a midbass can function as a subwoofer provided that it has a right enclosure? like for example, a 6.5" midbass can be used as a subwoofer, provided with a right box, it can sound like 10"sub?..just curious...
It's funny that no one guessed correctly as to the speakers origin. First, I know Pete and I've seen his work, it's real. What you don't hear however is the very end of the video that says that the speaker came out of a television.
with the wright enclosure like a good t-line or labrynth enclosure you can take a 8" radio shack sub and out pound "any" high cost sub ,,,,this is a fact that it is about know how !! i had a good enclosure made for two 12" ma audio 120xe's and hit a 150db on tl ! $80 each and a ma audio hk1000d amp at $200 lol peace
yep its all in the box and the frequency. You can make an 8 sound like a 12. All subs but out the same amplitude, its just on how good the box is so you can make a 8 sound just as good as a 12 or a 15. Its gonna be hard but its possible. But before you start hating on me, i never said i could do it cuz i know i dont know how. All i know is that you can easily do it if you have the skill.
i got 2 friends 1 with 2 kicker l7 15's and one with 2 rockford frostgate stage 3 punch woofers. and suprisingly the punch's (due to the box) hit way harder then the l7's. it's all proven box makes or breaks it.
i think its a small insignia woofer, comes qith a $30 2.1 computer system from best buy. i put one in a 2 cube sealed box and the fucker pounded, magnets are insane big.
but yea, looks like a insignia, cone looks like its 1/8 deeper or something, i may be wrong tho. way too sad the discontinued the 12"s.......
An enclosure can make or break a subwoofer. A couple 8" subs can hit surprisingly hard if the box is made well, and tuned right. I'v seen some small subs hit just as hard as bigger sub, and the main reason being is that the owner of said bigger subs cheaps out and builds an enclosure not worth a shit.
Don't let the tail wag the dog; start with an output goal then pick your equipment accordingly. Starting with a woofer and attempting to suit it to an application afterwards doesn't work anywhere near as well. Luckily, the woofer brand isn't that critical to a positive listening experience.
Not quite; it's actually a variation of a rear-loading horn with the horn air mass impedance matched to the cabin air mass. The response was actually quite flat within it's operating range. In any regard, it was just a proof of concept toy.
I use plain .5" and .75" MDF for most of my prototypes. My actual builds vary by what the client wants but, most of the time, it's still MDF anywhere from .75" to 1" in thickness.
Wow Pete. This is amazing. I am going to get in contact with you for a design. How should i contact you because i would like to discuss options and i have a few questions.
Ha ha... I think Bose can get along just fine without me. Besides, I'm not particularly impressed with anything they've done (besides their ability to market a mediocre product so well).
I'm telling you, 99% of the performance comes from the enclosure design. That's the one thing that can set you completely apart from anyone else who has the same woofer(s) you do.
that is insane lol

It doesn't matter what speaker it is. You can see theres a cheap 3" in there. It's all about the enclosure. It's a Transmission Line box

ne hatchback is a good car for a woofer... but the most acousticly tuned vehicle is a camaro or fire bird.
