I knew Tom from the Powerhouse days and Danny from Danny and the Fat Boys...Both played the Psychedelly in Bethesda on any given night as well as Radio King and his Court of Rhythm and Root Boy Slim and the Green Mountain Boys....Christ, what a hotbed of talent
Thank you for posting this. That's Michael Sucher on keyboards. Mike died last year (March 2008) and so it's mean a lot to us (his friends & family) to be able to see this footage.
tom is a great guitar player and in this particular video playes better than danny.
but danny is the best player in the world .
He is using a prototype of his famous joe bardens pickups , in fact the sound is still arsh. Some years after Joe Barden installed another blame for correcting the arsh sound and give more sustain.
danny the best in all time. Steve Vay thins so, too.
What I think is amazing on a track like this Danny is playing in a country type Rockabilly way,and yet his ability to make it sound so natural in a Jazz fusion band is outstanding.
danny could do anything and everything, he was a true master of every guitar style out there, and could play any guitar, he was a true master of the telecaster and anything else he put his hands on. he could play better in his sleep than most guitarists could awake! and all danny did was nothing for him, he was so far advanced it bogles my mind!
Why is everyone talking about Gatton? No disrespect to him, but Principato plays amazing here too, probably better than Gatton even. He's so underrated; I'm sure plenty of you didn't even know his name!
hi! losmafan, the reason everbody is talking about gatton is that he is great, tom and danny were good friends but danny is light years ahead of principato and everbody else out there, gatton had more knowledge and technique than anybody ever! gatton could do anything on the guitar, he also played banjo, mandarin and dobro, and could probably play hendrix in his sleep! he is sorely missed by me and many others out there!
Danny Gatton was a MASTER guitar player; he just chose to favor his Telecaster! No disrespect to anyone but Danny had so much heart and soul and humor that he could have played a cigar box with rubber bands as strings and wailed! One of the all time greats.
Too bad that the record company a**holes tried to package him with labels. Danny Gatton was beyond a label. He was a genuis!

OK, I'll admitt that I never heard of Tom Principato before this...he's quite excellent!
About Danny; there's nobody you can compare him to, or to him.

....but Gatton was heavy on chops, whereas Principato is a moch more soulful player

Groovy!!! I have recently discovered Danny Gatton and am truly amazed! But who is the other player with the hat?

It's a tune. Songs have lyrics. I guess you don't understand the samba they're playing either.
