I am in the middle of building a stair climbing Lego that I thought was original, with the front end and back end moving together, but its design is almost the same as #1 here. Oh well. BTW, I agree with airoscar - the music (William Tell Overture) makes this a riot.
They're both running on a new set of batteries. Number 2 loses because it is a lot less efficient. While the first one only moves up and forwards, number 2 has to lower itself.
