  • Dat tremolo. Hnnnnngh.

  • Superb!! No one can beat her ever....

  • HHUHIOJIO

  • I think that Martha Argerich has an amazing technique but her touch at some points it seems a bit heavy and her performance too fast.

  • Wow - seriously. the people that dislike this video either

    1. Accidentally clicked the thumbs down.

    2. Don't like the piece

    3. Don't like this kind of music.

  • @foresti6288. Try compilations by Vladimir Horowit, clara Haskil (my favorite), Ivo Pogorelich, Arturu Michelangeli...for starters. A wonderful complete cycle in progress, by the budget lbl Naxos, features many wonderful contemporary pianists each having a go at it.

  • I like

  • I thought she was a vibrato effect until I saw here hands... Amazing!

  • Don t know wether like or not - but it´s pure witchcraft - incredible!!

  • her fingers are....flying!!!

    Congenial!

    schneckenturm

  • super like!

  • god once said may there be light.

on wich martha answered: what's the magic word?

  • @laiholapso bird

  • @arlongan hahahahahaaaaahaaha I didn't think about that one. that's awesome! XD

  • this piece simply belongs to Argerich

  • Sono qui folgorata...

  • mesmerizing

  • I don't think anyone will ever lay down a better recording of this piece! Not to mention she is Georgeous!!

  • All who oppose her are but pedants!

  • I have Scarlatti's whole collection by Scott Ross on harpsichord, but this is so much better. I wish she did them all on piano. Is there a good full collection of Scarlatti for piano that anyone knows about? I have found individual pieces by different artists but not someone who actually played through all of them on piano. Thanks =)

  • Scarlatti genio!

  • What an incredible performance, I've never heard this piece being played better. Very refined, very musical.

  • WOW! Lang Lang who?

  • I guess Alborada del Gracioso would be no trouble for her, either. ;)

  • O___O

  • Astounding .TY gullivior for posting

  • there is no other interpretation like hers!!

    5 stars!! brilliant!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • If you opened up Martha Argerich's heart notes would come pouring out like blood, I you could see inside her brain you would see a living heart.

  • @dj770usa

    Disturbing.

  • so much brilliant!

  • tokeletes

  • I'm pretty sure if we still had pianos without the damper bar inside we could get the Bebung effect no problem :s thats probably why I screwed up this piece

  • In the end, Martha's beauty is as fleeting ; indeed much much more fleeting than this composition !

  • This is a toccata !

  • Incredible finger dexterity....I hope she was more appreciated in Argentina than she is...

  • Why were sonatas in Scarlatti's era only one movement?

  • @daytonmlivingston Sonata means something that is to be played, rather than a cantata which is to be sung. Sonata form is a development of this - look up sonata on wiki

  • @daytonmlivingston Also, to add to the other comment, sonata means different things to different people at different times - your expectation of a multi-movement sonata comes I assume from your experience with composers in the tradition of Mozart, Beethoven, etc. It turns out that these Scarlatti sonatas may well be grouped together into sets of 2 or 3 (I believe). But they are not movements of a set. They are organized in a way that has not become mainstream and so the terminology is lacking,

  • @daytonmlivingston Sonatas didn't become multi movement till the classical period

  • loved this interpretation ...she takes breaths where there should be and gives it depth, yet so light on her fingers that you can hear each repeated note.

  • How could there be 52 dislikes. That's utter nonsense. Get a life.

  • Very impressive!

  • @Plyanistcan5

I am sure one of those 49 people would not be you-

You could't even play 10 notes!

  • A beautiful performance by a beautiful woman.

  • Why does she say that she's afraid of trills whe she can do THIS?!

  • Impressively fast, but poorly deep. I'm not convinced at all.

  • Comment removed

  • This is ridiculously fast ;(116 to the dotted quarter). Try doing that on your piano.

  • This is real pianism! I think Scarlatti would be pleased.

  • @AlexAlcyone You made me laugh. I just put eye drops in and I read "I think Scarlatti would be pissed!"

  • @Forseti6288 LOL!! :)

  • Magic!

  • Actually, this piece is not too hard. Because its just like prelude, to be hard ; İt must have a part like fugue. But I really like it!

  • @Piyanistcan5 Really O.O tremolo on a single key that fast is really difficult imo.. i cant comprehend the way you said "This piece is not too hard" LOL

  • i think i just saw G-d!

  • a hand job from Martha should be interesting....it should last 3.5 seconds.

  • She is amazing... the best pianist I've ever saw...

  • what is the cheat code for super speed ?

  • @Botchlae I think it's the secret spell she is whispering while she plays that allows her to do these amazing things.

  • @conmon88 I'll be trying that today.

  • it does not even sound like a piano, some devine instrument from heaven.

  • 49 people plays better than her.

  • @Piyanistcan5 Lol.

  • How the hell do you do single key tremolos?

  • Duh... Title. Nvm

  • Can someone please tell me what Kirkpatrick or Longo number this sonata is?

  • She is the greatest pianist ~!!

  • Wow, she's a BEAST on those keys

  • I know it's a long shot, but I'd like to hear Martha Argerich play Tom and Jerry by Hiromi Uehara. It would be a gas to hear a great classical pianist play it.

  • I love Martha.

  • Virtuoso of the keyboard and I quite agree in the same league of Horowitz and Sokolov as the comment from guarinello states. If Scarlatti is not played in this manner in which it is flowing and Bach like it is not played well and she plays it with a faster than usual metronome marking as it should. Her Liszt B minor sonata is flawless!

  • thanks for uploading. I love this interpretation. A great musician. Music has no country! I humbly find her somewhere middway between Sokolov and Horowitz, and the equilibrium is new and fabolous

  • i prefer when boys play piano.. like bangs

  • shes beautiful!

  • @wagneristhebest Yes, she is. It's an inner, spiritual beauty.

  • @simcha181818 So you're saying that she isn't physically beautiful?

  • @simcha181818 ...Thank you. I think there's also a strength and power of truthfulness too.

  • @simcha181818 OK, but it's also very physical. She is simply a very beautiful woman.

  • @simcha181818

    Nah, it's perfectly outer.

  • @simcha181818

    And also outer beauty!! :)

  • @simcha181818 are you implying she's physically unattractive?

  • Fake.

  • Well I love the music from the baroque period to modern....!!!

  • As beautiful as she is, I wish the video showed more of her finger work, which really makes the music what it is!

  • I simply love agerich

  • i hate all the classic music snobs with their bullshit opinions. just shut the fuck up and listen bitches

  • that tremolo is even more astonishing when you consider that she's hitting black keys in that sequence, just astonishing control

Makes me almost think that piece was written for female pianists; the hands of most male pianists are too large to manage those black key repetitions with such clarity

You Argentinians are boring the world with your fervent nationalism. Listen to the music: that's what really matters. Let me remind you that "countries" are imaginary concepts, and that they are absolutely useless.

  • @0601989m ES RECONTRA ARGENTINA, Y ESTAMOS RECONTRA ORGULLOSOS. GIL.

Saludos!

  • @0601989m Really? You're actually going to try to take these people's pride away from them? Come on. Move on to more important things...

  • @mmoynan I suppose it's like trying to 'de-convert' a religious fanatic. No chance. I'm just sick and tired of reading peoples' thick patriotic exhortations in a context such as this. You are right though, I'm preaching to a brick wall...

  • Comment removed

  • @0601989m I do agree that it can be tiring. Especially comments like the individual's to whom you replied. However, I try to cut them some slack - after all, they're citizens of a modest nation with no special claim to fame, and allowing them to enjoy calling "Martita" their own is okay. All within reason, though. There's nothing attractive about nationalism. (And in all honesty, Martha is more European than anything; she left South America at around 12, and has lived in the area ever since).

  • Comment removed

  • @Bret6464 No need to be defensive, and I wasn't being rude. In fact, I was trying to defend the pride Argentinians have. Saying there's "nothing modest about any nation" is just ignoring the point. Argentina IS a relatively modest nation on the world stage. Denying that is just.. ignorant. Being modest doesn't make it a second-rate country (it isn't at all; no country is), but it is "modest" in comparison to the likes Great Britain, Russia, France, the US, etc. It's not a bad thing, so chill.

  • @mmoynan Not being defensive, I am not from Argentina. The greatness of a nation is not measured by size. It is always the contributions a nation makes to humanity. There is nothing "modest" about Argentina and its contributions. Nationalism and pride in national heritage is a great thing! Understanding this comes with maturity.

That said, Martita is Argentina in the classical world, along with Piazzolla. She is an immensely artistic and extraordinary pianist, one of the best ever!

  • @Bret6464 Not entirely sure where you're going with this. You keep repeating the same things over and over again. I never said the greatness of a nation is measured by size (?), so I'm not sure where you're going with that. Nor did I say I was against pride (I was defending their pride, in case you couldn't tell), so I have a feeling that you're not great at reading, or just don't make sense. Regardless, it's sunny out, so I'm signing off of this exchange. I hope you do the same. :)

  • Isn't it glorious?!

  • @TheEsWez This is not a classical music...this is probably BAROQUE....

  • This is baroque. Good point still. Unfortunately most people lump together 600 years of music under the term "classical." What to do, it's just ridiculous!

  • how the hell does she tremolo so fast and perfectly on a piano????

  • Comment removed

  • @BluesSkillz Watch her fingers in the video - and she HAS to have an incredibly responsive piano!

  • nice, i have almost all of her songs on mp3, but not this one

  • the goddess of the piano.... unbelievable!

  • did she use the R.H 4th finger? its just too fast for me to observe it@@....

  • @musickidz I think she is playing 3-2-1-3-2-1.

  • Is this piece hard to play? My friend says it easy then look and he say he play it on trombone in school.

  • @brassmonkeyjew You say your friend played this on trombone? o___O

  • i'm madly in love

  • INCREDIBILE!!!NON CI SONO PAROLE!!!

  • Incredibly flexible. Adore her. :)

That totally proves females can do even better than males (kidding :p ). lol

  • MY Goodness....Just my goodness........... its so hard for me to reach tat level T.T and yet i'm preparing for diploma exam and lazy to train..

  • 0:01-3:14 = THE BEST!!

  • Marthita....what else ?

  • Comment removed

  • If you wanna listen to Scarlatti's sonatas, just listen to Pierre Hantaï.

  • i love how she "plucks" the left hand. it really fits the music since scarlatti, who lived in spain, must have been influenced by spanish guitar music. if you've ever studied the piece, you'll recognize that the LH chords in this piece sometimes tend to resemble guitar chords.

  • Argerich has achieved that height of genius that puts the reveller into awe of how easy they make their work seem.

  • I thought that Martha was the best living pianist on earth.. The more I listen to her, the more I realize she is far more than that... !

  • @PHILBXL there are a few as good as her if not better???

  • God help us all, what a woman.

  • This piece has been immortalized by Martha...No one has ever played this piece this well, and no one will ever play it this well again...

  • @luke1841 not on a piano...

  • superb.

  • Scarlatti on the piano? No it just doesn't sound right

  • @simcha181818 she was beautiful. Now is over 70!

  • @bachinblack94 69 actually.

  • @Isayiwill and still beautiful

  • This is terrifying

  • she is amazing! wow, one day i will play like that... hopefully :)

  • excellent!!!

  • Baroque is the greatest era in music.

  • @hogsprinc in art, in general

  • It's not just playing that fast, it's doing so and retaining the nuance. She is simply divine.

  • atmosfera magica

  • In T u r k i s h M u s i c ; We divide the distance between two notes -do & re- to 9 pieces so half note is 4 or 5 parts.So every half note differs from one another..T h i s affects m u s i c you hear. It " m e a n s " much more than Western Equal clavier. H e r e in my country they say , m a s t e r s of Western Classical M u s i c can make half notes so " meaningful "... this s o u n d is direct to your hard n o t to your M i n d..S o Martha is doing it s o, here,, I t h i n k..

  • Magic !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Genialidad y virtuosismo de Martha!

  • Anyone knows how old was Martha in this video?

  • @simcha181818 could be 15 years ago

  • must be young =)

  • @0079110 very old video, actually

  • @simcha181818 I'd risk saying around 40

  • Great Pianists? They're all a bit mad, must come from have two brains.

  • I just adore that theme.

  • Amazing!!!!

  • I'd like to hear her play this on harpsichord!

  • lmao, and she did it this on a Yamaha. The way she's playing you'd think this was done on a Fazioli.

Her technique is out of this world man.....

  • And while listening to this music, Hannibal Lecter drove off on his Jaguar Mark II. :-)

  • hello, pal. When is the music played and in which part of Lecter's series? Would love to know that.

  • by god she is incredible! 0_0

  • It have to admit that my version seems to be left somewhat behind.

  • @flyvefisken "IT HAVE TO ADMIT"??!?!?!?

  • It have to admit that my version seems to be left somwhat behind.

  • Prof Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń (the teacher of Rafal Blechacz) has said after Martha's recital on the occasion of the present Chopin Festival that Martha is incredible - she plays all better and better... And indeed, even here on YouTube there are her performances of this sonata, on my opinion even better (by her, of course), although it may seem impossible. She is the class for herself with no other comparison...

  • Crazy skill. She must have practiced that song many many times.

  • She can play the piano

  • @MrBathelemont Really?? I would have never guessed it!! lol

  • @xisiasaki wow I so agree with you!
