In my opinion when the show moved to satellite It lost it's edge. It's all on a time schedule and borring,Stern has become what he use to goof on. Was a fan since 1985. If not for the music channels on satellite I would have cancelled my subscription after the first 6 months. It's channels like yours that show how great they use to be.
I can agree how the show sucks these days. The Howard vs. Gary fight earlier this month tried to touch old days, but it was just annoying. And his threat to quit radio after the end of next year was just self-indulgent. Whenever Howard goofs on Gary these days, you just want to scream.
My best solution is to kick that fat-ass, wannabe player Benji out of the studio, and negotiate to bring Jackie back into the studio. Artie + Jackie = the only way to bring back the old days before 2010's end.
Jackie wrote all the great skits. During the show he fed Howard funny lines via Lotus Notes. He was a genius at the insult. Artie Lange doesn't even come close, but like someone else on here wrote - every show has a peak and then declines. And I agree the Stern Show Golden Age was when Billy West was on, but still funny up to around 1998.

So what? Howard's "jokes" aren't what made the show funny.
The show has always been at it's best when the gang is talking about their personal lives. The on-air fights. The real stuff. Artie's life is 100x more entertaining than Jackie's & Artie brought some drama that was just second to none on the air. The fights with Teddy & Sal. The quitting on-air. The big bustup with Howie.
Jackie, with all his stupid hacky jokes, never came close to this kind of entertainment.
What great shows they were back then. Kinda makes me sad hearing it. There's a missing chemistry without Jackie. Howard seemed to have fun in those days, not like now. I guess a show can't stay on top forever.
golden era of the stern show...its nice to hear bits that arent interrupted by stories about the north shore animal league, heroin, money or vacation.
Amen brother, the show is NOTHING like it was during the Jackie era, not that I'm a big fan of his, but Artie is just too much drama, not that he's going to last long the way he's going...Howard just doesn't care about the show anymore
yeah that's what it seems like. i mean the vacations, no working fridays. people can say jackie sucks or whatever but when he was on the show it was FUNNIER. and a true fan cant argue that
agreed, but I would say the golden era was a little earlier than this, back when Billy West was on. A lot of that stuff happened before I'd ever heard the show, so it's great to get to go back and listen to anything from that era.
I'm not a big Jackie fan either, but we probably don't realize how much he did behind the scenes (as a writer) either.
Jackie writing style was crazy shit. When they goofed on his life most of the time he was the fueling the fire by passing notes to Howard to make the sitution funnier for the show. The dead give away was his laff. Thats the differance between him and Artie. Gra
I'm starting to agree with you guys. The show for the beginning of this year was painful. I wanted to give a good editorial on Stern Fan Network without whines and moans so I could bring up a good point, but I can't even get signed in. His recent reasons why he hates Jay Leno are becoming ludicrous, and he can't stop talking about him. And when it's not about that topic, he's snickering at his jokes or to kiss up to some guest on the show, or just talking about how he wants to end his career.
I'm aware of what Jay Leno did to Howard regarding Stuttering John, but now he's upset that Jay isn't leaving NBC after what they did to him. Who cares?
Oh, and if he wants to end his career after the last year in his contract, then go out with a bang.
Let's not forget about the Deena call two weeks back. After she, like many of us, claimed they got sick of American Idol talk, he starts going nuts and says he knocks it out of the park. And Maryann from Brooklyn is stroking his ego as well...
saying that she speaks for all Howard's fans that she hangs on to every word he says. You know, back then she was a goof, now she's becoming an enabler, giving Howard carte blanche to just talk about stuff that no one cares about. If he keeps this up, then he won't even bother to put on a great final show.
I won't call him Hampton's Howie, because people who call him that wish they lived the high life. I'm a loyal fan. But I don't want to wait until the weekends for Masterpiece Theater.
Robin writes like a flaky, blue blooded, skank. "Legs for days". Seriously. She must have been on something when she wrote that mess.

I think Howard should leave Jackie alone when he cracks up. That's the funniest laugh I've ever heard from the Jokeman.

LOL! Negative.
Artie & his fucked up life bring way more to the show, entertainment-wise, than Jackie ever did.
Jackie was funny for his laugh & his botched roast jokes. Nothing more.
