  • Just made my first simple genoise cake using your tips and it impressed my mom, and she did lots of cakes before! I just love baking because it's just like math to me, and I'm a math geek :P

I'd love to see more recipes from you; for me, you are the winner of MC

  • oh, and you are very messy in the kitchen! haha.. i love it

  • you're awesome, ben!

  • Ben You ROCK! :D

  • I baked this cake for Christmas with my mum. Delicious! Thank you so much, Mr. Ben! You are amazing!:) ( Sorry for my bad english).

  • @prilla111 You don't have anything to apologize for. That comment was perfect, grammatical English.

  • Ben, you are awesome! :D

  • Keep up the great work Ben!!!!! The old season of Masterchef is still repeating over and over again on my cable TV and I can never get sick of watching you cook! :D

  • Oh how i love you Ben :">

  • why are your videos so under-viewed? You're really generous with your recipes and give great advice & make good cooking vids! Kudos to you, Ben!! :) Keep up with the amazing work! Thanks a gazillion again :D

  • @alexandrayla I'm not sure, sweetheart! They're keyword tagged to the max. Hopefully this year some new media appearances will drive more traffic. Happy New Year!

  • Ben, YOU ARE THE BEST! I am going to "test" this cake tomorrow to see how I can tackle it for Thanksgiving.

  • @Arteolike How did the cakes turn out?!?

  • @benthegrate Amazing. Simply said.

  • i know you used 3 9" pans, i however only have 8" pans would i need to make this with 4 8" pans?

  • @renowildbear Sorry for the late response...8" is fine, you'll just have thicker layers!

  • @benthegrate lol how you didnt mention what Graham said! You should have won! No disrespect to Jennifer but still.

  • @Jumpybeaver YES! Pecans work beautifully. That's the nut I originally used for this cake. When I auditioned for MasterChef, I made the cake with pecans that my parents had picked from their tree and shelled. You're SO lucky that you have a pecan tree!

  • @benthegrate Wonderful. I can't wait to taste this cake, as I have been tasting it the minute I saw you make it on Master Chef.

  • I know that you don't get a ton of views yet, but i want to let you know how much I appreciate all the time you put into making these videos, I cannot wait to make this one day with my mom! :) You go Ben!!!

  • what's that pad called that you dump the candy out on? I can't tell how it's spelled by you saying it. sil-pad? spill-pad? i'm not sure. thanks! great video. also, do you know the weight equivalent to the volume measurements you give?

  • @FloboeMusic It's the brand name "Sil-Pat" which is made in France. There are a few knock-off brands, and the generic term is "Silicone Pad." I've tried a few...NONE are as good as the brand name. You can get them at Bed Bath and Beyond, or at restaurant supply stores. Also, I have updated the recipe on benstarr.com with weight measurements for flour, sugars, and butter. No weight for pumpkin or carrots, as they will vary.

  • that was A-mazing!!! I didn't even start out intending to watch the entire hour in the fist sitting but I got HOOKED! watched beginning to end, and sooo glad I did! THANK YOU so much Ben Starr! love you!
