When I saw G.I. Joe the movie hosted by Sgt. Slaughter on tv, I was like "They did a movie?!" I loved the intro it was like watching Transformers the movie, but then when it started it was like watching an episode. Every time I tried to watch it on tv I had to go to school, and it sucked. It took 8 years for me to watch it. Now I own it, on blue-ray, and hope TF:TM will follow.
The best part of the intro to me is at 2:10. Love the flow of the animation. "
It just makes the fact that the new heroes are all the more boring crystal clear. At least the Transformers movie had, for the most part, new characters that were interesting.
And the rest of the villains are classic hams: Chris Latta's Cobra Commander, Arthur Burghardt's Destro, Morgan Lofting's Baroness, Brian Cummings' Dr. Mindbender... they may not have been THREATENING villains, but they were damned entertaining.
Also, he's kind of a lame character, but I really love Burgess Meredith's performance as Golobulus. "Ah what the hell, I get to be an evil ancient snake-human mutant. Might as well have some fun with it."
When I saw him get the snake in the heart, it brought back Optimus Prime. Such psychological damage to a 10 year old. I wouldn't have it any other way. YO JOE!
First Rodimus replaced Optimus, then Galvatron replaces Megatron, Starscream gets blasted into dust then Serpentor replaces Cobra Commander then finally the ultimate outrage- these insect Cobra La freaks. With a colorful cast of characters, lots of action, and a story line that could have come from coast to coast am. This cartoon simply rock has a kid and is still enjoyable today...

It was a pretty cool show, and was a lot darker than any other show at the time. Sadly however, it only lasted 13 episodes, and not many people seem to remember it today. But I'm glad to have retained my memory of such a show even years after it was shown on television. For despite its obscurity, it still holds up.
I love the theme song that opens with this. and acereporter, that is true. thing is, the story bit works in japan, and they are fine with it. And so was I

@drbayoms Yeah, the story goes that the G.I. Joe and Transformers movies weere in production about the same. The writers working on G.I. Joe decided to kill off Duke and then the team working on Transformers thought that would be a great idea for their movie too. That was a bad move since Transformers' audience at the time was a bit younger and reacted badly. If G.I. Joe had gone to the theaters first, Duke probably would have stayed dead.
Interestingly, I noticed how this movie uses some of the same background music from season 3 of the G1 Transformers cartoon. The part where they're ambushed by the enemies definitely reminds me of such a show. And its to my memory that many of the recylced tracks heard in this movie and in season 3 of Transformers are variations of the background music that was used in the Transformers movie.
This movie is actually pretty good. Even for its time it's better than most of the stuff we have now. The story in this movie is pretty simple, but it's good enough for me. I don't like this movie as much as I like the TF 1986 film, but this is still a classic, and definitely worthy of praise.
@gothsoul82 When I was young in the 1980s, I used to also watch Transformers, Thundercats and of course loved GI Joe above them, but I also watched Duck Tales and Conan the Adventurer in the early 90's, He-Man in the early 80's among many others too numerous to remember in one moment.
