Such inspiring words! I'm a cégep student living in Canada and I've been building an electric car in my driveway (no, not garage) for the past year at minimum wage against all obstacles. I still have a long way to go, and it's this sort of thing that keeps me going.
Obama is a wonderful person. I'm proud to be an American whenever I watch him speak. You may not agree with his politics, but there is no doubt that he truly wants what is best for America. I give him enormous credit and great appreciation for what he's doing for education. Students are the future and we cannot afford to not give them our full support. Teachers have the most important jobs in the world. Their jobs need to be the most prestigious in the country and their salary likewise.

Here's an idea: Make it easier for members of low-income families to obtain patents. Right now it will cost like $3k to get a patent. That's ludicrously expensive!

@hal970fx And just because someone loves Christ doesn't mean they don't understand science, and it doesn't mean they are "illiterate." I've taken an interest in Ed Witten and M-Theory, but also, I still have a deep faith in Christ.

I wasn't implying that slight religiosity is mutually exclusive to a scientific understanding of the world, They are at odds however.
Nor was I suggesting that we expand our failing school systems as they exist today. The only way our species can continue to survive is if we expand our understanding of the universe in which we live without having to worry about who's feelings we might hurt by discovering we share common ancestry with the rest of the biosphere, for example.

If I cared about your opinion, I’d be offended that you equate snarky remarks with stoning someone to death, or telling children that they’ll burn forever in agony because they ask too many questions (talk about killing creativity).

Kudos to President Obama for presenting the science fair at the Whitehouse. Kudos to those who inspire and educate young people and the public. As well, kudos to the young people who pursue education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics and to the parents who encourage them. It is imperative that we encourage and inspire teachers in order to secure a promising future for the US.

Here's an idea: Make it easier for members of low-income families to obtain patents. Right now it will cost like $3k to get a patent. That's ludicrously expensive!

@voodooKobra ..no about $450 more..the abstract ,claims almost all you can do by yourself..You only have to be as descriptive as possible in your application..the filing fee can be as low as 50 and you can have it registered while you do market research and find investors and or buyers..
