I've seen tropical birds in New York's Central Park for years. CP is a major US birding place, on several flyways. A red and green parrots showed up on my windowsill, but flew away and tried to cozy up to some pigeons on a street light. They freaked and moved away. Perhaps s/he ended up in large nest of red and green parrots on a pylon of the Brooklyn Bridge. According to a birder friend if it gets cold slowly, they acclimate. In April a snowy egret behind yellow forsythia by the pond.
Londoners should count themselves lucky a beautiful tropical bird has deigned to colonize their bloodstained, ugly city.In my own country, the native species has disappeared. Wonder what these parakeets do to survive the awful weather!
i come from croydon and i saw one in a tree this morning and thought it was a lost pet and felt really sad until i checked a few vids on here. must be a wild one i saw.
I remember one morning I was walking towards Ramsgate station with a severe hangover and saw a tree full of parakeets. I thought I was having a bit of moment, but turns out... I wasn't!! :D
they're actually quite delish. very mild in flavour.
