i used to watch this band in the 70's. ,We used to drop acid trips and go to their shows truly amazing. Wish tere was some videogreg shhehan the drummer and cleis pearce continue playing great music till this day in the northern rivers of nsw australia and elsewhere
Thanks for posting this! I really got off listening to my cassette copy 'Bon Voyage' not too long after discovering Sebastian Hardie...another seminal Aussie progrock outfit.
I too used to go see Mackenzie Theory play in Melbourne back in the early 70's. One of the most unique bands and creative sound I've heard. I would dearly love to hear more of his recent music. From listening to the NAMM Tone Tubby video, he still has that flair and style.
C'mon Rob, bring out an album...pleeeaase. or at least come back to Australia and get Mackenzie Theory back together for one last gig.
I was too young to see MT in the 70's. But I have seen Rob play live since. He's related to some farmers near Lake Bolac in Western Victoria, and a few times back in the 90's he played some gigs at Lake Bolac pub and hall, just for the locals. All I can say is what an awesome guitarist! He was a wizard with his black Les Paul with Bigsby trem. Played awesome covers of Peter Gun and other surf tunes. Unforgetable experience.
Being aged, I remeber McKenzie Theory when I saw them live all those years ago and I have wondered what happened to Rob MckKenzie. This was and still is some of the most inspired and creative fusion music on the planet. Unfortunately for us Rob hasn't been able to take it further and I hope and trust that he still can. He palys an excellant version of Sleepwalk but this is not as inspired or as powerful and effective as his compositions. Look forward to the resurgence of The Theory.
I was at their farewell concert at the Ormond Hall, Prahran. Discovered them too late ! Am glad to have recently found the re-issued CD.

The track is called "O" - also with Cleis Pearce viola. A great track a bit slower than most.
Saw them at Dallas Brooks in May 1974- that may have been recorded for "Bon Voyage" -one of their last, if not the last, gigs
