I think it might be helpful to those unfamiliar with Steve Benen to establish why his opinions might warrent our attention. What makes his perspective more valuable than my own? Does he have a background which puts him in a particularly good possition to speak to what he does?
Grea video - would love to see an expanded verison of this. I am a big fan of the carpetbagger report - he is easily the most talented blogger out there today.
I know Steve mostly through his daily posts at crooksandliars. com and his weekend posts at TPM. It was really cool to be able to see the behind the scenes for one of the most talented and prolific bloggers there is. Great job.
Thanks for this. I know Steve through his daily posts at crooksandliars. com and his weekend posts at TPM. It was cool to get a behind the scenes look at one of the most talented and prolofic bloggers/writers out there.
Steve does get paid to write for Salon and TPM. He also gets paid to write for other people occasionally. He sells ads on the carpetbagger report and makes a little $ that way. He's by no means getting rich from blogging, but he gets by.
Steve is married but his wife is gainfully employed and doesn't need Steve's financial support.
Sorry, didn't communicate the "wife" thing clearly. The point I was trying to make re Benen's wife is, given that he puts an extremely significant amount of time into the endeavor, and, as evidenced by the wife in the credits, he's evidently not a hermit, what's the dynamic of his passionate blogging work with his primary relationship?
To my mind, it can stress the relationship, it can enhance it, or it can be sorta neutral but maybe effect it in unforeseen ways. All good film fodder!
Nice brief profile of the man and motivation behind a political blog of growing popularity. Excellent editing and production turn an inherently underexciting topic into a compelling watch.
As an intro to poli-blogging, it doesn't address the question of how Benen gets paid (presumably Salon and Talking Point Memo). That's relevant, given that we're told he's working on blogging 12 hours a day and, per the credits, seems to have a wife. The sequel: "Digital Pamphleteer 2: Money & Matrimony".
Thank God I wasn't raised in Vermont

What does that even mean? Steve wasn't raised in Vermont, he moved there in 2004.

Thank YOU Mr. Simmons for making this film. It makes me proud to be a blogger who attempts daily to speak truth to power.
