  • @SulaFreaks john --format:raw-MD5 [location of text file with MD5 hash]

    You can also type john --help to see all the options and correct syntax for John the Ripper

    I did eventually find out what he typed, but I can't get john to read md5 hashes. I even tried with the jomba version, and then I couldn't even install it because I got error saying that it couldn't find -lcrypto (or something like that) and some other codes.

  • @SulaFreaks Make sure you type the MD5 hash into a plain text file in the format of:

    username:md5 hash

    Then when you run john --format:raw-MD5 [the location of the text file with the md5 hash will go here]

    you have to uncheck "Capture packets in promiscuous mode" in capture options

  • I have assignement to sniff packets! I've been trying to sniff passwords! its useless!

  • Oh, you could have added, that before starting bruteforce, you could look it up on Rainbowtables like md5cracker org and then brute-force it. And, a nice brute-force tool which uses the GPU (waaay faster) is ighashgpu.
