We must change the way we farm, and unfortunatly also the locations, give the lake back to the sea, as fighting it will get harder. Sea weed would be a good crop in such a place, and it would be a filter.
Great work. Please do not accuse of Google Earth of failing to re-photograph the area. They just use photos shot by Government agencies for multiple users. I have some NASA shots from TerraModis that show the beaches around the Lakes over the past 3 years - now showing as much beachfront as Adelaide I bet. From Mike of Goolwa
Think its time for an update, it has gotten a lot worse since then and unfortunately it is still going to get worse. Its not a matter of letting the salt water in its a matter of letting some fresh water flow in as has been years since we have been allocated any environmental flows.
Nature will not fix this problem...
Over allocation of water for farmers has caused this problem....
Profits put before the environment.... and a gross mismanagement by the Murray Darling Basin Commission :(
its a natural lake, although it was originally salt water before the barrages were installed in the 1920s, ultimately, the re-opening of the barrages would save the lake
That would bring the lake back, yes, but the freshwater ecology would be destroyed. Eventually, things would revert to their natural state. It just takes time. I'm reminded of the levees along the Mississippi...
Water mismanagement along the Murray Darling is at critical levels, whats frightening is there are more damns being planned. Its sickening just how much damage two governments can make.
Was down there a couple of months back...SOOOO good to see the water back for now!

yes, the only way to get by land from Victoria to South Australia was to cross the lake between Meningie and Milang.
Milang was also one of the Key ports long with Goolwa at the southern end of the river system, where goods were transported to and from up the river.

Excellent presentation. It is sad watching the demise of the whole lower river system.
A minor point but the spelling mistakes should be fixed in the video.
