I've often thought of putting a tone control on my Wurlitzer 625t. There are 3 amps in the organ so I'd probably put it on the tibia's. Some day I might add individual volumes for each of the reed, trumpet, kitura voices, but as a guitar player of many years there is something about shaping tone straight out of the voice instead of post EQ. Even a simple disc capacitor on one of the volumes with another pot to shunt would probably work. Sometimes it's nice to muddy up the tone a bit.
@paulj0557 Back when I still played a Hammond 123J3, I tried putting it through a graphic equaliser, to improve the tone (it didn't). My U90 has a bright/mellow organ tone control, but it weakens the fake Leslie effect. And the tones become more centrally monophonic, rather than spread around the cabinet (the woofer's central, and sound is spread between several mids and tweeters in the cabinet).
I miss my Yamaha D30, it had volume controls on all the voices, like a simplified Hammon drawbars
May I suggest you get a bit more adventurous with the registrations ?. The U90 is SUCH a capable organ, and there's so much to go at on it. Wish I had room for one!. I used to service them, and could'nt resist having a quick play afterwards "Just to test it, you understand,".One of the very best.
@23565120 Well, on this song, I was deliberately going for the sound I used. ;-) Simplistic... But to be honest, I don't like the non-organ sounds that much (if I could afford a Hammond B3 with a Leslie, I'd have one, instead). And, unfortunately, the ADSR is a bit woeful on the organ tones. One day I'll get around to trying to use a wide range of the other voices in a clip.
Before I bought the organ, I spend a few hours testing it in the shop. ;-)
@23565120 Seeing as you mentioned servicing them... I don't suppose you have a circuit? I've always wondered if it were possible to reduce the volume of the 8' pedal related to the 16' pedal. It overshadows it completely, and the organ's in a small room with a nasty resonance over most of the 8' pedal range.
My background includes electronics engineering, and I'm not afraid to modify circuits (I do it all the time), but not without information.
@sweavo Actually, the left hand only had 2 flutes on, with the manual volume balance turned all the way down on the lower manual. Short of only playing with one voice, I couldn't make it any muter.
I agree, the lower manual is generally too loud, on the U90, but it's beyond the range of adjustment. It's on my "to do list," when I get around to servicing the organ.
Makes my miss my old Yamaha D30, it's tone levers are a bit like the Hammond drawbars. You could customise the tone nicely.
@sweavo I've just listened to the clip, again. I can barely hear the left hand, in this particular clip. I think you're hearing the mushy effect that YouTube does to some audio, when it destroys the quality.
@CameraTimCom thanks for the responses. I certainly didn't mean to badmouth your skills. I couldn't play this :-) I did have my quality turned down because my connection's being slow right now. And yes you're right it wasn't the left hand that caught me out, it was the embellishments with the right hand. Goes to show I should pay more attention!

Nicely done.

nice! but I would benefit from a softer tone on the left hand at the start it masks the melody sometimes.
