  • This is so nice, I can't waite to square foot garden... hopefully with my daughter(:

  • @Chantellejeane - Thank you! Blessings -

  • what do you do to keep pest away?

  • @shawnreed25 A few posts down I talk about the little I do about pests. I've also learned that if I plant a few 'decoy plants' near the things that I would like to steer the bugs away from.....that can help too. I can have green bean bushes right next to things that normally have an aphid problem and they will choose to sit happily on the green bean plants until there is no life left in them, while the cohabitant remains bug free. Marigolds also are planted to help detour bugs too.

  • nice.... we had a beautiful spot at our old place but our landlord passed away and his wife sold the place.... we had a 60ft by 30ft spot w full sun... broke my heart to leave it but this spring the new owners of the property will most likely be overwhelmed with the plants that come back on their own

  • nice

  • @wndannja Thank you!

  • My newest video is complete! I appreciate all questions & comments! Please take the time to 'like' or 'dislike'! It won't let me post the link. So search for "Rebecca's Square Foot Garden 2009 - 2011".

  • Wonderful video. I've been trying, and have a really good start each year, but then the BUGS get everything, especially the squash bugs and borers. Plus I think we had slugs. I tried not using poison -- will ramp up my use of soap this year and if that does not work, will reluctantly resort to sevin dust.

  • @suegee1950 @suegee1950 Thank you! I also struggle with bugs. I actually spend hours smashing the squash bugs & the green worms on the back of the leaves where I find them. It seems like enough time spent doing that & leaving their 'guts' behind, they end up going away on their own - or I've just killed them all out. My Grandfather taught me to do that. Also, with the tomatoes I put fine netting around them with enough room to grow from the time they are about the size of a dime.

  • I have a question let say you use Mel's mix...

And put a condo for the worm...

Would you have to change the earth after couple of year?

Or the worm would be enough for fertilizing ?

    thanks

  • simply beautiful!

  • simply beautiful!

  • i LOVE YOU VIDEO AND GARDEN!

  • Wow!I love that. When is good time to start to plant the fruit trees? What veg. is easier to plant?

  • Question - @ 1:17 I see your radish bulbs protruding the soil. I planted radishes for the first time two weeks ago. Is this normal for the bulbs to protrude? And- other than the date on the seed packet, how will i know when to harvest them? Yours look delicious!

  • As your radishes mature & get larger some of the tops start to be visible above the soil. If you want to check their progress, it does not hurt them to gently remove/replace some of the soil surrounding them to check their size. The radishes you see in the video were planted on Feb 19th & harvested on March 25th.

Hope this helps. Thanks again for your comments. Happy gardening!

  • Typically I can't stand photo videos but this one has good music and EXCELLENT photos. All in good detail, no fuzzy photos and definitely amazing color on your plants. Nice work-

  • @ColeFried81 Thank you so much!

  • I loved the comment about your little girl being so excited! I can just imagine.

  • Awesome garden and video. I'm gonna try a square foot garden next year. Great job!

  • Lovely garden, what did u fertilize with?

  • No need to fertilize with a Square Foot Garden! The nutrients come from the compost. Thank you!

  • Well if Im not mistaken I see a bag of Miracle Gro..and that has some kind of fertilizer in it doesnt it? At least organic fertilizer...have you read the ingredients to those bags of Miracle gro?

  • You are correct. You do see a bag of Miracle Gro Seed Starter mix. This is what my daughter filled our little seed cups with. I forgot - that did add some trace amounts of fertilizer to my garden. My garden is 32CF and I don't think these few half-filled cups of dirt are going to have impacted anything drastically, nor do I consider it as having used fertilizer- but I see what you are saying. After the seed cups were planted, only compost was used for adding nutrients.

    Thanks for your input

  • Your garden is beautiful!! I subscribed :) Look at all those radishes - can't wait to see more of your harvest!
