@Nethol Remember the beginning of the video where I said "Thought I'd do something different with this one"? That's because this is the first video in which I DIDN'T show my face blaspheming the holy spirit. Troll harder, troll.
Antagonistic idiots enjoy attacking Christians to offend, stir up animosity, and to get a reaction. "A wise man speaks because he has something to say. An idiot speaks because he has to say something." The LATTER applies to you!
@metalslut1 I find it ironic I'm catching shit for being offensive from a christian by the name of "metalslut". But if you really wanna see offensive, take a look at the fucking bible, I find it offensive to suggest that people wouldn't know right from wrong without a threat of eternal punishment, that one deserves such punishment simply for denying the existence of the impossible, and that the animosity I catch from YOU comes so freely and without regard to what I do or do not believe.
@un0RRS I also I respect your opinion and pass no judgment on your beliefs. I also suppose I may have been a little harsh in the past year. My only wish is that my fellow beings shall attain happiness and be free from suffering in their lives. God bless us all and may love abound you. Peace.
@2CSST2 I respect your opinion and pass no judgment on your beliefs. I suppose I may have been a little harsh in the past year. My only wish is that my fellow beings shall attain happiness and be free from suffering in their lives. God bless us all and may love abound you. Peace.
what these people deny is the truth which cannot be proven by math science or some other languages such as Latin and those deny the holy spirit and Jesus are ignorant but its there choice to be so there is nobody to stop i believe one must hear and see to be as ignorant as you and also why did you mention what you like to do on you free time on Sundays?
There WERE seven seals to be broken in order to snatch away the veil that hides the abomination that has caused great desolation, but a lonely and lowly servant discovered what they WERE. Now he knows that he has the power to open what has been kept shut and to close what has been opened...
pray for bob, Holy Ghost baptizm feels like a Body your perfect size coming in, and God talks, moving lips, mouth, Jesus told me: I tell you it makes me no difference if you make it or not, I love making people backslide persecuting them, I love putting people in hell to tease them, for no reason, loose hair, wrinkle, I love putting people in hell to talk about it thru out eternity, -gums deseased, scalp itcy, face bags, wrinkles cause muscles tighten at instant I use, lay in bed move wrinkle
Oh and one more thing Mark 3:29 when is refers to blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, all its saying is, if you KNOW God exists, for a fact, and you STILL deny him, then you have committed the unforgivable sin. The only people who have done that are satan and the fallen angels. You didnt commit it because according to you, God doesnt exist.
If you dont believe in God, then why do you spend so much of your time on this. I mean seriously you must hae absolutly no life to spend so much time on somehting you dont even believe in. Read a book or something. Sheesh.
You are right about what blasphemy means but you are wrong about other things. Your blaspheme wouldn't count because your blasphemies would be about something that you don't even believe in! Does that make sense? Notice that Jesus said speak AGAINST the Holy Spirit (not ABOUT). True, you would be speaking blasphemies, but they're air-filled.
Either way, all three verses don't even say you'd go to Hell for it. None. And not all sin leads to death (1 John 5:16-17).
in that case, blasphemy cannot exist. If blasphemy is only blasphemy if it is "againts" the holy spirit, then there is no blasphemy, because the holy spirit is non existant wether you believe it or not.
personally i think any talk of god or that kind of crap is Blasphemy to Common sense and education!
He does alot of evil through the him in us. Although he may not have intended for this to happen, he made it so. He is present everywhere so he does eat babies, rape children, fuck animals, etc. only through us. He is perfect. just like everyone else
I think you are very talented, very creative. I think your video is very powerful. I think know your bible (or at least how to research the text and understand what you find). I think your taste in art is exquisite. I think you build your arguement very well. I think you ought to continue in filmmaking. I think you could be wrong about the Holy Spirit. I think I wish I knew you personally.
If any of you are devout evolutionists, I am currently watching a movie called "Unlocking the Mystery of Life" and it is very interesting so far that questions basics of Darwin's and evolutionary theories starting with the flagellum of the bacteria. And SCIENTISTS are in this video. They mentioned a book also called Evolution: a Theory in Crisis...there is another video out there called The Privileged Planet..so before you do any "blaspheming" you out to give these videos a looksy =0)
Let me guess... is one of the scientists Michael Behe?
The bacterial flagellum has been explained. "Irreducible complexity" is what you get when you write a book without going to the library first.
ID is a blatant appeal to the god of the gaps. In Behe's case, the gaps are microscopic. What a teensy weensy god! Neil deGrasse Tyson points out that scientists invoke ID *only* at the limit of their knowledge; and more relevantly, that whenever ID is invoked, scientific research stops cold.
That is the beauty of God. He is the God of the microscopic AND the God of the expanse of the Universe. "For by Him ALL things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created by Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together." That is a HUGE God.
There is no such thing as a devout evolutionist. Evolution, like every other science, proceeds on *evidence*, not on faith, belief, or authority. The creationist and ID people love to scrounge up a few rogue scientists, seemingly unaware that science does not work by authority.
In 500 characters or less, Michael Denton doesn't know what he's talking about. He uses bad logic and outdated sources, quotes out of context, and misunderstands the theory. In fact, there is NO crisis.
Get your facts right. Blasphemizo is a Greek word, from blapto, which means strike or, yes, injure, and pheme, which does mean something similar to reputation.
if there is a god hes a dick. what possible reason could he have for bringing AIDS, murders, rapist, cancer and Hugh Jackman,to mention a few, into this world?
you do not fear now.... nor did the people of Sodom fear... Nor did the people of Noah's day fear.. Nor did Absalom.... none feared until the time drew nigh when they would meet the one to whom they betrayed. The fear of God is the beginning of Wisdom according to scripture.. Be afraid of the God who holds your every breath, every heartbeat in the palm of His merciful and powerful hand. What is you are right?? BUT what if you are wrong!!
You need to substantiate your claims of the people of Sodom's deaths to make us believe that we will go to hell if we are wrong. Your logic is circular.
Masterful, thanks! Congrats on getting a full house of commentators including the 'read it in Greek' peddlers, the ones who wasted their time commenting just to tell you that you are in denial, and the ones who are now praying for you (even though you are damned along with the rest of us blasphemers) Kudos because you made me laugh. Isn't that what life is about anyway? Living-not preaching, repenting, or getting saved. Yeah, thanks for the laugh...it's one of the best parts about being alive.
Everyone trying to affirm it or deny it SHOULD read it in Greek. It's not being a "peddler".
Most "Christians" have no idea what the Bible actually says.
I happen to be agnostic, but I've read the new testament in Greek several times. It's informative and at least as useful to atheists/agnostics as to Christians.
Affirm or deny? That is as pointless as trying to affirm or deny Greek myths. Using absolute words such as SHOULD are not always practical.
Like mythology, the Bible is full of good stories. I commend you on your dedication to being informed, and I am flattered that you took the time to leave a hubristic comment to my comment.
Oh, I'm a snob, there's no question. It's just that I've seen in this video that it's as easy for atheists to twist the words of scripture as for Christians. It's a lot easier if you get down to the heart of whatever was being said if you feel like using it as a theological argument.
Personally, I like the campaign but arguing about theology seems to me to actually be quite retarded. If you're going to be retarded enough to do so, might as well know your facts.
Um, the bible was written in Greek, not Latin or English. I doubt Greek has many derivative words from Latin, since it's usually the other way around.
I deny the Holy Spirit too. But if the God of the Bible exists he is truly a horrible being who does horrible things. Like rape children. Though seriously he would be horrible.
if you have no doudt that the holy spirit exists, why do u waste sooo much time trying to condemn it. why don't you try sooo hard to condemn islam or hinduism. the fact is YOU ARE IN DENIAL. and u are just trying sooo hard to convince yourself that jesus doesn't exist. but u r not totally convinced yet.
You are sick and dimented. How can you be so sick in your head and heart? Do you even have a mother? If that is not a true testimony of the condition of mankind today. I am sure those of Noah's days played "nah, nah, nah, nah, nah" with him since it was 90 years building the ark and we all know the ending to that story. I hope you don't go to hell but if you do I hope you will recall this little stunt you pulled in defamating the Lord for all to see. Repent. The Kingdom of God is near!
he will bless those who fear the LORD— small and great alike.
May the LORD make you increase, both you and your children. May you be blessed by the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. The highest heavens belong to the LORD, but the earth he has given to man.
O house of Israel, trust in the LORD— he is their help and shield. O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD— he is their help and shield.
You who fear him, trust in the LORD— he is their help and shield. The LORD remembers us and will bless us: He will bless the house of Israel, he will bless the house of Aaron,
They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but they cannot see;
they have ears, but cannot hear, noses, but they cannot smell;
they have hands, but cannot feel, feet, but they cannot walk; nor can they utter a sound with their throats. Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them.
Wrong audience. You're looking for idol worshipers, not atheists.
Atheists don't do *any* gods, including idols. No Baal, no Molech, no Mithra, no golden calf, no virgin, no meteorite-in-a-box, and no Yahweh. We atheists are very much like you Christians; we just don't make an exception for that one last god.
Not to us, O LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness. Why do the nations say, "Where is their God?Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him. But their idols are silver and gold, made by the hands of men.
I may be wrong, but denying the Holy Spirit is much more than just squeaking some words on the Internet. The Holy Spirit draws everyone to the point of believing in Him (gives you what you personally need and proof to follow Him) and then outright refusing Him because you don't want anything to do with Him. What more can God do for you? I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT!!! AND I FOR SURE AM NOT AFRAID!
> The Holy Spirit draws everyone to the point of believing in Him...
Then how do you explain the fact that i don't believe that any Holy Spirit exists to refuse? (This after many years of searching for him, so it's not like i was being obstinate.)
May I ask you what resources did you go to find God? Just by seeking if He does exist I would say is the drawing of the Holy Spirit. You might not have exhausted all the resources and right now as I type might be the place that God might give you fully what you need to decide. On the other hand, if you are fully convinced that He does not exist, then you already have made your decision. Some people find God, but don't like Him, but it doesn't nullify that He exists. Does that make any sense?
I *used* to be convinced that God exists. It was when i asked myself, "What difference does God make in my life and in this world?" that the whole house of cards collapsed. If God exists, he behaves *precisely* as if he doesn't.
I observed that the world is exactly the way one would expect it to be if there is no god. The God hypothesis, OTOH, requires twisted logic, convoluted explanations, excuses (theodicies), and lots of shoehorning to account for the way things are.
And that is precisely what you are doing..making a HYPOTHESIS, an educated guess. You have no way to "prove" your hypothesis in this case therefore your hypothesis can be wrong. And can athiests explain everything to account for the way things are? They do not do any better job...this whole world and its intricate complexities started by a big bang?? Bang of nothingness??...hmmmm Don't you think that is a bit of a twist of logic also?
You are also using a hypothesis. You just don't call it that.
The big bang theory does not say that the universe came from nothingness. It says that the universe was once in a very hot, very dense state. Where the universe came from is still an open scientific question.
It is *your* hypothesis that claims the universe was made from nothing. The God hypothesis says that some mysterious invisible omnipotent being *poofed* everything into existence.
BTW, the big bang theory was first proposed by a devout Christian, so don't equate it with atheism. You ask us to explain origins. Most of us leave that to the professionals, i.e., scientists. Atheism is the absence of belief in gods, no more, no less. It does not come with a creed.
I don't find the big bang a twist of logic, because i bothered to *learn* about it. From science authors, not apologists. OTOH, the God hypothesis asks me to believe in magic.
The professionals don't have all the answers as you said...the origin of the universe is an open scientific question i.e. THEY DON'T KNOW. Same leap of faith as me but I choose God. Have you ever watched the video The Priviledge Planet? I challenge you to watch it and it was made by a professional--Guerrmo Gonzales who has a PhD in Astronomy. There are many scientists out there who are not athiests.
True, they don't know. But they *do not* make a leap of faith. A leap of faith is believing something with no basis for that belief. Since science doesn't *yet* have an answer to that question, there is nothing to have faith in.
Scientists may believe in God, but they cannot bring God into the lab. The scientific method breaks down completely if you admit the supernatural.
You are right that he was a devout Christian, but he was also one of the professionals. Georges Lemaître had a PhD and was a mathematician, astronomy with his graduate degree at Cambridge and spent time at Harvard. He met with Albert Enstein on several ocassions. There are many scientists who are also appologists/Christians who are in great harmony. Have you heard of Hugh Ross, Dr. Francis S. Collins
Director, National Human Genome Research Institute?
The difference that God makes in a Christian's life is that He has granted our eyes & hearts to see the TRUTH...truth of creating the world, that He's a holy & loving God because He sent His son Jesus Christ, in the purpose we were created for, & what happens after we die in this life. The difference in knowing the truth is life and death. That is why the Holy Spirit is so important. Without Him we have no understanding.
I have another hypothesis: the Holy Spirit is an emergent property of the neural wiring in the temporal lobes of your brain. I base this on actual findings of neurobiology. Since your brain is no less fallible than mine, i have no reason to believe that the Holy Spirit is in possession of any TRUTH.
I'm sure my brain is MUCH MORE fallible than yours because I had to read your paragraph 3 times..lol =0) Believing in God DOES takes neural wiring & "cardio" wiring. That is what is called "Faith" Question I have is what if you are wrong & the Bible is right? If the Bible is right, all are accountable to the Creator.
Sorry. I didn't mean to insult you. I have no idea who Pascal's wager is. It would be much more insulting for people to roll their eyes at a person who is just trying to learn. Obviously, I am way over my head posting with you. I really enjoy learning & most of the fascinating things I learn just makes me stand in awe of the Creator.
Pascal's wager is your "What if" question. Christians must think it's a killer argument, because it seems to be the most used apologetic ever. But to non-believers, *believe me*, it's just lame.
- It doesn't argue for the truth; it's nothing more than bet hedging.
- I can just as easily ask you, what if *you* are wrong and the Koran is right?
- If God exists, wouldn't he know i'm just pretending to believe?
I don't know about other Christians, but I just think its a "caring" question in a way...because we really believe that there is a hell. And I don't want you to go there even if you don't believe it exists. I don't "debate" or argue for kicks, and you might not believe me, but because I do care about your soul as a person.
Yes He would know if you are pretending or not. Jesus knew which of the pharasees were pretenders. However there are pretenders and those who are truly seeking Him but have lots of questions like Nicodemus, so they can't honestly bring themselves to believe at that point and there are those who don't want to believe because they don't like what God has to say. Jesus said, "Those who seek me with ALL THEIR HEART WILL FIND me." I guess its what you do with what you find.
Jesus said, "Those who seek me with all their heart will find me." So basically you have to already believe in Jesus before you can find him. I find that a little strange. If you already believe in Jesus then of course youre going to see him everywhere, just like that lady who thinks that her grilled cheese sandwich is possessed by the virgin Mary. Anyone could look at it and see someone else but she saw Mary because she wanted to.
Sorry I never replied...still learning about youtube. To comment --its really not fully believing, but the seeking in this part of scripture I believe Jesus is saying about seeking the TRUTH because Jesus is "the way, the Truth and the Life" as He said himself. So, I see it as a beginning stage of those who are seeking the Truth (sincerely, honestly, want to know the Truth) will find Jesus because that is exactly who He is. Many really DON'T want to find the truth.
If Jesus is the truth, there's no need to look for him to find it, as looking for the truth and finding it should lead one to Jesus then. Having faith indicates youre not looking for the truth but rather avoiding it, as searching the unknown is scary and pretending to know the truth without looking for it is easy. Even if Jesus is the truth, theres no point in believing it until you know, at least not to me. I don't pretend to know the truth but from my perspective it's not looking like Jesus.
Its really not what if I am wrong but what if the Bible were wrong and the Koran was right. I guess I would be going to hell then, but my faith & how God has shown that His Word is the truth by so many ways and by His Holy Spirit, I have full confidence that "to be absence from the body is to be present with the Lord." He has given me more than enough to believe.
Sorry to be so winded, but really thanks for letting me know what Pascal's wager is. Its good to know what some non-believers think of certain "arguments." I see your point. There are so many to jump into and you can tell I am no scholar...just a learner.
Whoever denies me before men, him will I denie befor my Father who is in heaven. Bro turn back before your heart is as reprobate as the words you speak. And I pray for you that God does forgive your sin and that you lose your pride and realize that you are a sinner.
I already prayed for you! It seems you have talent. You could do good with it. I loved the 1st part of your video. Unfortuantely you turned something nice into something evil. Use your talents for good. I paryed that the Lord would change your heart. God Bless You! And yes I meant it.
this has nothing to do with your video but i wonder though. what if God or Jesus, the Holy Spirit or w/e prophet one day appears and resurrects people, takes believers to heaven and leaves sinners below, would you believe then?
I think the answer is obvious for that one. If I saw dogs talking, I would believe that as well. It is ridiculous to ask that. Check out other ludicrous things that people believed during the time of the old and new testament that we now know as false. Evolution of religion is wonderful.
thats because as christians it's our duty to forgive those who offend us like we would like to be forgiven for our sins and praying is our way of doing it. (I'm just answering a question, I don't want to start a quarrel)
met·a·phor \ˈme-tə-ˌfȯr also -fər\ n. from Greek, from metapherein to transfer, from meta- + pherein to bear 15th century
1: a figure of speech in which a word or phrase literally denoting one kind of object or idea is used in place of another to suggest a likeness or analogy between them (as in drowning in money) ; broadly : figurative language 2: an object, activity, or idea treated as a metaphor
You did an exellent job of diplaying your case. I definitely agree with everyone doing the challenge that no one should be frightened into believing in God, but I do believe in Jesus. I am not that knowledgable and can't give any convincing arguement, and I think that God meant it to be that way, that nothing could steamroll us into belief but that we would see the love he showed in Jesus and respond and join his family, which is all he wants.
so, why go to all the trouble? i mean, i don't believe in leprechauns, but i certainly don't go posting four-minute videos about leprechauns raping children.
also, please refrain from sexually violent imagery - it's not at all necessary, and it can be very damaging to actual victims. i mean, you know that happens to real people, right? and that it's excessively traumatic, especially when people treat it as nothing of consequence...
where do you people base your logic? that we came from nothing billions of years ago? and if we came from nothing where did that nothing have its beginning? what is right and wrong and who determines it? who is YOUR god, who is not even a god to begin with?
2&3) The big bang model only indicates a burst of all energy/matter from a single point 13,700,000yrs or so ago. What happened before 0s and up to 0.00000000(nano-s)000000000000000000000000000000000005s we're not sure, yet.
4) Every rational creature knows the difference between what is positive and negative, constructive and deconstructive. No religion (or god) is neccessary.
5) I don't have an imaginary friend to begin with. Your god is imaginary, it's all in your head.
Okay, on the etymology of "blaspheme". Well that's great, do you think that the original text had the word "blasphemy" in it? Of course not. So to prod into the technical definition(s) of the word is fruitless.
Secondly, keep in mind that Luke was derived from Mark and was modified in order to appeal the message to the Gentiles (the original to the Jews). It's unsurprising that they share common threads but aren't entirely the same.
Actually the Greek word itself is blasphemasa, which means literally "to speak evil of," which means that a simple denial of the Holy Spirit may not be enough to commit the "unforgiveable sin." You may actually have to say something evil about the Holy Spirit, which I would certainly say your video does, but most of your respondants videos do not. Although it is possible that what they are doing still constitutes blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, I would not say that is a certainty.
not afraid of the God who created the earth beneath you and gave you life eh? That obviously will not last too long. You will be scared one day. Dreadfully scared. Tormented. You don't know this fear yet. But just wait. It's coming.
This is a well made video that does well in denying the users faith and proving that denouncement of said faith could lead towards eternal damnation. There are some well thought out sections that are logically intact about the bible and Christian faith. Keep up the good work.
so...if you don't believe in something...why waste the energy to blaspheme it? I don't believe that Atlantis ever existed...but um...it sucks anyway? C'mon guys, get a grip..
Because believers in Atlantis never tried to foist that belief into tax-supported schools. Because believers in Atlantis don't insist on bottonholing everyone about Atlantis while telling non-believers to shut up. Because believers in Alantis don't insist that non-believers are morally inferior, and don't discriminate against non-believers. Because, historically, believers in Atlantis have never killed or tortured anyone for not believing. We have a grip, and we're not letting go.
shanesmith8, you still don't walk around stoning rape victims to death, you don't kill your neighbour because he worked on a Sunday, you don't condone the murder and rape pf so called "infidels" (I hope), although the Bible urges you to do all those things.
You choose to interpret the Bible selectively, because you DO have a sense of morality, one, that is NOT derived from the Bible (or you would gladly do the aforementioned).
and bentrop...could you get those Bible verses for me? I'd love to see that. Jesus healed a man with a withered hand on the Sabbath day in the temple in front of everyone. I'd call healing work right? Well if Jesus did some work on Sunday, I don't think the Bible would tell you to kill another guy who did.
The punishment for being raped is marriage to the rapist, not death--Deut 22:28-29. For breaking the Sabbath--which is *Saturday*, not Sunday--Ex 31:14-15; 35:2; Num 15:32-36. For making YHWH jealous, Ex 22:20; 32:10; 32:27; Num 31:15-17; Deut 13:1-10.
If you weren't already aware of these, then you have no business attempting to defend your faith. Go back to your Bible, and this time read ALL of it. Leave the apologetics to the grown-ups.
Extremely insightful. Also, I didn't realise how slow a reader I am. Which just goes to show, you can be logical and rational; and a retard. Kudos on the most excellent video. And remember, historically inaccurate fictional representations seek self satisfaction through the dubious proclimation of their undying love for you!
Actually, you're wrong on that point. Jesus DID give His life, willingly!
He came to this earth the first time as a man, knowing full well what His destiny was - to die on the cross for the sins of the world. When He comes the second time, it will be in His glory and POWER.
He loved us so much, that He CHOSE a death on the cross! BUT, He also ROSE AGAIN and is now seated in Heaven (His home, where He came from in the first place.) He will return soon! Will you be ready?
That's not what the Bible says. You should try reading it sometime. It says that Jesus was betrayed by Judas and sold to the Romans for 30 pieces of silver. Thus, he didn't turn himself in and even if he had he still required the services of the Romans in order to get nailed to the cross. In which case, we should be thanking those anti-Christian Romans as well as Judas for our salvation just as much as, if not more so than Jesus. See the flaws in your theology yet?
@nobodyknowsbutjesus what kind of farcical "sacrifice" was "dying" on the cross if he just came back to life? some sacrifice. he never really died. where was he for those three days anyways?
Yes, Luke does make the reference to evil in verse 11 which, if you understand Matt. 24 Mark 13 and Luke 21, is referring to the time of the synagogues of Satan (Rev. 2:9; 3:9). It is very condition specific. But that's what happens when you read somebody else's mail.
Why does an atheist think that "raping children" is wrong? Because it lowers their likelihood to pass on their genes?
Or does this video's implication (that "raping children" is immoral) contradict the world-view it attempts to promote (that God doesn't exist or isn't worth respecting), since atheism has no right to assert any morality?
Well, gee, in the Bible, it says that it's very proper to stone a woman to death if she is raped within a city for not having shouted loud enough for someone to hear her, that it's right and in God's grace to beat insolent children. All very moral, undoubtedly. Atheism has no devine basis for establishing what's moral or sinful, that may be true. However, morality and simple well-being of mankind are two different things.
I wish you all would STOP blaspheming us atheists by telling us that we have no basis for morality. Your imaginary god DID NOT invent morality. Morality has been with us as long as there have been humans, and raping children was considered immoral long before Moses commanded the rape of the Midianite children in Numbers 31.
shanesmith8, this question is answered well in Richard Dawkin's books "The Blind Watchmaker" and "The God Delusion" as well as in his BBC-documentary "Nice Guys Finish First". Altruism can be easily explained as part of an evolutionary processes. Our moral codes and ethics are still constantly shifting, e.g. less than 60 years ago the majority of people in the US or Europe were openly racist and it was perfectly socially acceptable, today this is a minority and it is not.
I also think that belief in altruism is naive (on this point I side with B. F. Skinner and Blaise Pascal). If you mean to use the old argument that moral codes developed by evolutionary processes, I urge you to look deeper. Such an explanation actually says that "raping children" isn't really wrong, but people who didn't rape children were more likely to survive. Again, atheism has no morality, only what increases or decreases one's chances of survival.
Due to the limitations of 500 characters per comment it is hard to really point out all the parts of the Bible that justify and advertise the rape of children as well as the killing of rape victims. After all, the Bible is a product of its time, a time were it was perfectly appropriate to 'marry' a 11 year old girl without her consent as long as the parents were fine with it. But times luckily have changed (the Bible however didn't as much).
I wonder what you all are trying to do by telling this to us. Are you trying to persuade us into becoming the monsters that your religion tells you we are?
Whether you agree with him or not, Dawkins *does* answer your question. Try reading also Aristotle, Rousseau (social contract), Kant (categorical imperative), Bentham & J.S. Mill (utilitarianism), Rawls, and Phillipse.
As you cannot imagine morality without a god, i cannot fathom why you need a god to have morality.
My point: to show the inconsistency of this video's implied dissapproval of "raping children" and the atheistic world-view.
My religion says you are not a monster, or my enemy (Eph 6:12).
I've read most of your Survey of Philosophy reading list - plus plenty more.
Morality doesn't exist without God because without him, there is no outside reference point for objective definition. Nothing is sacred, all is subjective, and life is the accident of a coincidentally conducive environment.
"Again, atheism has no morality, only what increases or decreases one's chances of survival. " Wow. Atheist does not mean you have to believe that, the only thing that makes you an athiest is not believing in god. Its rediculous that you said, Athiests with no morality shouldn't be commenting in morality. You need to smarten up before you start debating and leaving comments
You are right that atheism is the lack of one specific belief. However, there are logical consequences and implications that follow the non-existence of God. Without an objective reference point such as God, there is no logical basis, no substantial premise, for a significant moral code. One man says that morals should be based on the advance of the species, another asserts that it should protect all human life - it all becomes subjective to the arguments of the influential (the wealthy).
If you can't figure that out for yourself, i can only conclude that your religion's command ethic has crippled your sense of right and wrong. I don't know how to correct that in less than 500 chars; but see my answer to your next question for reams on how to behave yourself without divine micromanagement, and why. But frankly, it scares me that you can't figure out why child rape is wrong beyond "God sez so"--and that you uphold a law-giver prophet who didn't figure it out either.
shanesmith you're a retard. ever heard of something called moral philosphy? Tons of authors, for 2700 years have stated moral theories, based on logic, sensitivity, human feelings and other source of philosophy. Religion as no monopoly and no religious person (who is not in jail) actually follows a religious moral code.
And if you're nor a dumb sheep, you can choose within those secular moral frameworks the one which fits you better... Socrates, Aristoteles, Cicero, Kant, Bentham, Mill, Rawls, whatever. You don't need no god to be moral.
There are some logical problems with this comment. First, if every person can choose whichever moral philosophy suites him best, and each be equally right, its called moral relativism. And relativism is a black hole to logic. It's choosing morals based on whims rather than any standard.
I agree, you can be a decent human being without believing in God. But whats the point of that?
Does your moral philosophy allow you to call people retards? Perhaps it is not based on "sensitivity" or "human feelings."
For a philosophy of ethics, the best author I read during the course of my studies was Jonathan Edwards. You're right that no religious person follows a religious moral code perfectly. That's why I believe that we are sinners who need forgivness for our crimes.
People who believe there are invisible people out there running the world are mentally ill. I deny the existance of the Holy Ghost! I'd rather serve in Hell than rule in the Heaven that christians live in.
You would think that spitting on, mocking, and killing the son of God would also be considered blasphemy. However, Jesus said, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do." I believe he says the same thing about what you are doing today in these videos.
You already know the truth. You just don't understand it. Trust me, one day you will understand.
You're right! I already do know the truth: there are no gods, goddesses or sky daddies watching me. The only sad thing is that if you don't realize that you're completely wrong before you die, you'll never know. You'll just be dead and gone. *shrug* More's the pity, eh?
Spitting on, mocking, and killing the son of God is not blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. It's blasphemy against the son of God. Forgivable. You can say whatever you want about Jesus and he'll forgive you, but he'll never forgive you if you talk bad about his ghost buddy.
I love how you say you are now afraid... yet, you won't even show your face on youtube proclaiming it. Congrats to you ma'am.

JeremeK 3 years ago
in that case, blasphemy cannot exist. If blasphemy is only blasphemy if it is "againts" the holy spirit, then there is no blasphemy, because the holy spirit is non existant wether you believe it or not.

Karwen3 4 years ago
Let me guess... is one of the scientists Michael Behe?
The bacterial flagellum has been explained. "Irreducible complexity" is what you get when you write a book without going to the library first.
ID is a blatant appeal to the god of the gaps. In Behe's case, the gaps are microscopic. What a teensy weensy god! Neil deGrasse Tyson points out that scientists invoke ID *only* at the limit of their knowledge; and more relevantly, that whenever ID is invoked, scientific research stops cold.
RickySTT 4 years ago
That is the beauty of God. He is the God of the microscopic AND the God of the expanse of the Universe. "For by Him ALL things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created by Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together." That is a HUGE God.
Karwen3 4 years ago
There is no such thing as a devout evolutionist. Evolution, like every other science, proceeds on *evidence*, not on faith, belief, or authority. The creationist and ID people love to scrounge up a few rogue scientists, seemingly unaware that science does not work by authority.
In 500 characters or less, Michael Denton doesn't know what he's talking about. He uses bad logic and outdated sources, quotes out of context, and misunderstands the theory. In fact, there is NO crisis.

crescereCE 4 years ago
Everyone trying to affirm it or deny it SHOULD read it in Greek. It's not being a "peddler".
Most "Christians" have no idea what the Bible actually says.
I happen to be agnostic, but I've read the new testament in Greek several times. It's informative and at least as useful to atheists/agnostics as to Christians.
dumbn00b 4 years ago
Affirm or deny? That is as pointless as trying to affirm or deny Greek myths. Using absolute words such as SHOULD are not always practical.
Like mythology, the Bible is full of good stories. I commend you on your dedication to being informed, and I am flattered that you took the time to leave a hubristic comment to my comment.
crescereCE 4 years ago
Oh, I'm a snob, there's no question. It's just that I've seen in this video that it's as easy for atheists to twist the words of scripture as for Christians. It's a lot easier if you get down to the heart of whatever was being said if you feel like using it as a theological argument.
Personally, I like the campaign but arguing about theology seems to me to actually be quite retarded. If you're going to be retarded enough to do so, might as well know your facts.

Karwen3 4 years ago
> The Holy Spirit draws everyone to the point of believing in Him...
Then how do you explain the fact that i don't believe that any Holy Spirit exists to refuse? (This after many years of searching for him, so it's not like i was being obstinate.)
RickySTT 4 years ago
May I ask you what resources did you go to find God? Just by seeking if He does exist I would say is the drawing of the Holy Spirit. You might not have exhausted all the resources and right now as I type might be the place that God might give you fully what you need to decide. On the other hand, if you are fully convinced that He does not exist, then you already have made your decision. Some people find God, but don't like Him, but it doesn't nullify that He exists. Does that make any sense?
Karwen3 4 years ago
I *used* to be convinced that God exists. It was when i asked myself, "What difference does God make in my life and in this world?" that the whole house of cards collapsed. If God exists, he behaves *precisely* as if he doesn't.
I observed that the world is exactly the way one would expect it to be if there is no god. The God hypothesis, OTOH, requires twisted logic, convoluted explanations, excuses (theodicies), and lots of shoehorning to account for the way things are.
RickySTT 4 years ago
And that is precisely what you are doing..making a HYPOTHESIS, an educated guess. You have no way to "prove" your hypothesis in this case therefore your hypothesis can be wrong. And can athiests explain everything to account for the way things are? They do not do any better job...this whole world and its intricate complexities started by a big bang?? Bang of nothingness??...hmmmm Don't you think that is a bit of a twist of logic also?
Karwen3 4 years ago
You are also using a hypothesis. You just don't call it that.
The big bang theory does not say that the universe came from nothingness. It says that the universe was once in a very hot, very dense state. Where the universe came from is still an open scientific question.
It is *your* hypothesis that claims the universe was made from nothing. The God hypothesis says that some mysterious invisible omnipotent being *poofed* everything into existence.
RickySTT 4 years ago
BTW, the big bang theory was first proposed by a devout Christian, so don't equate it with atheism. You ask us to explain origins. Most of us leave that to the professionals, i.e., scientists. Atheism is the absence of belief in gods, no more, no less. It does not come with a creed.
I don't find the big bang a twist of logic, because i bothered to *learn* about it. From science authors, not apologists. OTOH, the God hypothesis asks me to believe in magic.
RickySTT 4 years ago
The professionals don't have all the answers as you said...the origin of the universe is an open scientific question i.e. THEY DON'T KNOW. Same leap of faith as me but I choose God. Have you ever watched the video The Priviledge Planet? I challenge you to watch it and it was made by a professional--Guerrmo Gonzales who has a PhD in Astronomy. There are many scientists out there who are not athiests.
Karwen3 4 years ago
True, they don't know. But they *do not* make a leap of faith. A leap of faith is believing something with no basis for that belief. Since science doesn't *yet* have an answer to that question, there is nothing to have faith in.
Scientists may believe in God, but they cannot bring God into the lab. The scientific method breaks down completely if you admit the supernatural.
RickySTT 4 years ago
You are right that he was a devout Christian, but he was also one of the professionals. Georges Lemaître had a PhD and was a mathematician, astronomy with his graduate degree at Cambridge and spent time at Harvard. He met with Albert Enstein on several ocassions. There are many scientists who are also appologists/Christians who are in great harmony. Have you heard of Hugh Ross, Dr. Francis S. Collins
Director, National Human Genome Research Institute?
Karwen3 4 years ago
The difference that God makes in a Christian's life is that He has granted our eyes & hearts to see the TRUTH...truth of creating the world, that He's a holy & loving God because He sent His son Jesus Christ, in the purpose we were created for, & what happens after we die in this life. The difference in knowing the truth is life and death. That is why the Holy Spirit is so important. Without Him we have no understanding.
Karwen3 4 years ago
I have another hypothesis: the Holy Spirit is an emergent property of the neural wiring in the temporal lobes of your brain. I base this on actual findings of neurobiology. Since your brain is no less fallible than mine, i have no reason to believe that the Holy Spirit is in possession of any TRUTH.
Same goes for the people who wrote the Bible.
RickySTT 4 years ago
I'm sure my brain is MUCH MORE fallible than yours because I had to read your paragraph 3 times..lol =0) Believing in God DOES takes neural wiring & "cardio" wiring. That is what is called "Faith" Question I have is what if you are wrong & the Bible is right? If the Bible is right, all are accountable to the Creator.

RickySTT 4 years ago
Karwen3 4 years ago
Pascal's wager is your "What if" question. Christians must think it's a killer argument, because it seems to be the most used apologetic ever. But to non-believers, *believe me*, it's just lame.
- It doesn't argue for the truth; it's nothing more than bet hedging.
- I can just as easily ask you, what if *you* are wrong and the Koran is right?
- If God exists, wouldn't he know i'm just pretending to believe?
RickySTT 4 years ago
I don't know about other Christians, but I just think its a "caring" question in a way...because we really believe that there is a hell. And I don't want you to go there even if you don't believe it exists. I don't "debate" or argue for kicks, and you might not believe me, but because I do care about your soul as a person.
Karwen3 4 years ago
Yes He would know if you are pretending or not. Jesus knew which of the pharasees were pretenders. However there are pretenders and those who are truly seeking Him but have lots of questions like Nicodemus, so they can't honestly bring themselves to believe at that point and there are those who don't want to believe because they don't like what God has to say. Jesus said, "Those who seek me with ALL THEIR HEART WILL FIND me." I guess its what you do with what you find.
Karwen3 4 years ago
Jesus said, "Those who seek me with all their heart will find me." So basically you have to already believe in Jesus before you can find him. I find that a little strange. If you already believe in Jesus then of course youre going to see him everywhere, just like that lady who thinks that her grilled cheese sandwich is possessed by the virgin Mary. Anyone could look at it and see someone else but she saw Mary because she wanted to.
infernus006 3 years ago
Did you hear about the rose that looks like a budda god?
kingmike40 3 years ago
Sorry I never replied...still learning about youtube. To comment --its really not fully believing, but the seeking in this part of scripture I believe Jesus is saying about seeking the TRUTH because Jesus is "the way, the Truth and the Life" as He said himself. So, I see it as a beginning stage of those who are seeking the Truth (sincerely, honestly, want to know the Truth) will find Jesus because that is exactly who He is. Many really DON'T want to find the truth.
Karwen3 2 years ago
If Jesus is the truth, there's no need to look for him to find it, as looking for the truth and finding it should lead one to Jesus then. Having faith indicates youre not looking for the truth but rather avoiding it, as searching the unknown is scary and pretending to know the truth without looking for it is easy. Even if Jesus is the truth, theres no point in believing it until you know, at least not to me. I don't pretend to know the truth but from my perspective it's not looking like Jesus.
infernus006 2 years ago
Its really not what if I am wrong but what if the Bible were wrong and the Koran was right. I guess I would be going to hell then, but my faith & how God has shown that His Word is the truth by so many ways and by His Holy Spirit, I have full confidence that "to be absence from the body is to be present with the Lord." He has given me more than enough to believe.
Karwen3 4 years ago
Sorry to be so winded, but really thanks for letting me know what Pascal's wager is. Its good to know what some non-believers think of certain "arguments." I see your point. There are so many to jump into and you can tell I am no scholar...just a learner.

so, why go to all the trouble? i mean, i don't believe in leprechauns, but i certainly don't go posting four-minute videos about leprechauns raping children.
also, please refrain from sexually violent imagery - it's not at all necessary, and it can be very damaging to actual victims. i mean, you know that happens to real people, right? and that it's excessively traumatic, especially when people treat it as nothing of consequence...
srmmm098 5 years ago
The Leprechaun believers probably aren't messing with you too much.
I don't use strong sexual-violence imagery myself, but I don't think it's being treated as nothing of consequence here.

where do you people base your logic? that we came from nothing billions of years ago? and if we came from nothing where did that nothing have its beginning? what is right and wrong and who determines it? who is YOUR god, who is not even a god to begin with?
GodIsLove23 5 years ago
To answer your questions.
1) Secular logic is based off of critical analysis of the universe.
I personally follow these 3 axioms:
Axiom-1) The mind is capable of imagining things that are not physically possible.
Axiom-2) The mind is capable of understanding the principles and nature of anything.
Axiom-3) Axiom-1 inhibits Axiom-2 if Axiom-1 is not realized.

Because there is more chance that you will do something to us than [enter your choice of god(s] will. The spooky threat is really quite silly.

Very nice, well done.
Shadrach76 5 years ago
Actually the Greek word itself is blasphemasa, which means literally "to speak evil of," which means that a simple denial of the Holy Spirit may not be enough to commit the "unforgiveable sin." You may actually have to say something evil about the Holy Spirit, which I would certainly say your video does, but most of your respondants videos do not. Although it is possible that what they are doing still constitutes blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, I would not say that is a certainty.

C'mon guys, get a grip..

angelkc419 5 years ago
Because believers in Atlantis never tried to foist that belief into tax-supported schools. Because believers in Atlantis don't insist on bottonholing everyone about Atlantis while telling non-believers to shut up. Because believers in Alantis don't insist that non-believers are morally inferior, and don't discriminate against non-believers. Because, historically, believers in Atlantis have never killed or tortured anyone for not believing. We have a grip, and we're not letting go.

YouTube keeps eating my comments, still.
shanesmith8, you still don't walk around stoning rape victims to death, you don't kill your neighbour because he worked on a Sunday, you don't condone the murder and rape pf so called "infidels" (I hope), although the Bible urges you to do all those things.
You choose to interpret the Bible selectively, because you DO have a sense of morality, one, that is NOT derived from the Bible (or you would gladly do the aforementioned).
bentrop 5 years ago
and bentrop...could you get those Bible verses for me? I'd love to see that. Jesus healed a man with a withered hand on the Sabbath day in the temple in front of everyone. I'd call healing work right? Well if Jesus did some work on Sunday, I don't think the Bible would tell you to kill another guy who did.
angelkc419 5 years ago
The punishment for being raped is marriage to the rapist, not death--Deut 22:28-29. For breaking the Sabbath--which is *Saturday*, not Sunday--Ex 31:14-15; 35:2; Num 15:32-36. For making YHWH jealous, Ex 22:20; 32:10; 32:27; Num 31:15-17; Deut 13:1-10.
If you weren't already aware of these, then you have no business attempting to defend your faith. Go back to your Bible, and this time read ALL of it. Leave the apologetics to the grown-ups.

I'm not completely sure about more ancient paganism but neo-paganism deffinately does not have a hell in the religion.

Jesus didn't give his life, he was murdered. He didn't exactly nail himself to the cross, you know.
infernus006 3 years ago
Actually, you're wrong on that point. Jesus DID give His life, willingly!
He came to this earth the first time as a man, knowing full well what His destiny was - to die on the cross for the sins of the world. When He comes the second time, it will be in His glory and POWER.
He loved us so much, that He CHOSE a death on the cross! BUT, He also ROSE AGAIN and is now seated in Heaven (His home, where He came from in the first place.) He will return soon! Will you be ready?
Jesus lives!
Peace.
nobodyknowsbutjesus 3 years ago
That's not what the Bible says. You should try reading it sometime. It says that Jesus was betrayed by Judas and sold to the Romans for 30 pieces of silver. Thus, he didn't turn himself in and even if he had he still required the services of the Romans in order to get nailed to the cross. In which case, we should be thanking those anti-Christian Romans as well as Judas for our salvation just as much as, if not more so than Jesus. See the flaws in your theology yet?
infernus006 3 years ago
@nobodyknowsbutjesus what kind of farcical "sacrifice" was "dying" on the cross if he just came back to life? some sacrifice. he never really died. where was he for those three days anyways?

Jehova-Giro: "Son, I told You, I don't give a g*d d*mn what the hell You call him. He's a bore."

Or does this video's implication (that "raping children" is immoral) contradict the world-view it attempts to promote (that God doesn't exist or isn't worth respecting), since atheism has no right to assert any morality?
shanesmith8 5 years ago
Well, gee, in the Bible, it says that it's very proper to stone a woman to death if she is raped within a city for not having shouted loud enough for someone to hear her, that it's right and in God's grace to beat insolent children. All very moral, undoubtedly. Atheism has no devine basis for establishing what's moral or sinful, that may be true. However, morality and simple well-being of mankind are two different things.
ashesinthewax 5 years ago
I wish you all would STOP blaspheming us atheists by telling us that we have no basis for morality. Your imaginary god DID NOT invent morality. Morality has been with us as long as there have been humans, and raping children was considered immoral long before Moses commanded the rape of the Midianite children in Numbers 31.
RickySTT 5 years ago
You replied, but didn't answer the question...
What logic does an atheist follow to conclude that raping children is immoral?
Changing the subject to the Bible's credibility & interpretation is not an answer.
shanesmith8 5 years ago
shanesmith8, this question is answered well in Richard Dawkin's books "The Blind Watchmaker" and "The God Delusion" as well as in his BBC-documentary "Nice Guys Finish First". Altruism can be easily explained as part of an evolutionary processes. Our moral codes and ethics are still constantly shifting, e.g. less than 60 years ago the majority of people in the US or Europe were openly racist and it was perfectly socially acceptable, today this is a minority and it is not.
bentrop 5 years ago
Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Dawkins... :)
Again, atheism has no morality, only what increases or decreases one's chances of survival.
shanesmith8 5 years ago
Due to the limitations of 500 characters per comment it is hard to really point out all the parts of the Bible that justify and advertise the rape of children as well as the killing of rape victims. After all, the Bible is a product of its time, a time were it was perfectly appropriate to 'marry' a 11 year old girl without her consent as long as the parents were fine with it. But times luckily have changed (the Bible however didn't as much).
bentrop 5 years ago
I wonder what you all are trying to do by telling this to us. Are you trying to persuade us into becoming the monsters that your religion tells you we are?
Whether you agree with him or not, Dawkins *does* answer your question. Try reading also Aristotle, Rousseau (social contract), Kant (categorical imperative), Bentham & J.S. Mill (utilitarianism), Rawls, and Phillipse.
As you cannot imagine morality without a god, i cannot fathom why you need a god to have morality.
RickySTT 5 years ago
My point: to show the inconsistency of this video's implied dissapproval of "raping children" and the atheistic world-view.
My religion says you are not a monster, or my enemy (Eph 6:12).
I've read most of your Survey of Philosophy reading list - plus plenty more.
Morality doesn't exist without God because without him, there is no outside reference point for objective definition. Nothing is sacred, all is subjective, and life is the accident of a coincidentally conducive environment.
shanesmith8 5 years ago
"Again, atheism has no morality, only what increases or decreases one's chances of survival. " Wow. Atheist does not mean you have to believe that, the only thing that makes you an athiest is not believing in god. Its rediculous that you said, Athiests with no morality shouldn't be commenting in morality. You need to smarten up before you start debating and leaving comments
TheSamsquanch 4 years ago
You are right that atheism is the lack of one specific belief. However, there are logical consequences and implications that follow the non-existence of God. Without an objective reference point such as God, there is no logical basis, no substantial premise, for a significant moral code. One man says that morals should be based on the advance of the species, another asserts that it should protect all human life - it all becomes subjective to the arguments of the influential (the wealthy).
shanesmith8 4 years ago
Consequences of not believing in a god? Without god no logical basis? Funny how you say that when god is the only respected no logical belief.
99% of convicts believe in god.
80% of sweeds are atheist, and their crime is SIGNIFICANTLY lower then americas.
You may think im just pulling favorable stats, but these are just a few of many.
TheSamsquanch 4 years ago
Do you think Moses' ethnic cleansing of the Midianites was right, since the did the sin of believing in the wrong god:
'But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves' (Numbers 31: 18)
Killing thousands of 'unbelievers' but keeping alive all female children virgins can be justified with todays moral standards?
Their has never been the rape of a child "in the name of Atheism", there have been many rapes been justified "in the name of God".
bentrop 5 years ago
If you can't figure that out for yourself, i can only conclude that your religion's command ethic has crippled your sense of right and wrong. I don't know how to correct that in less than 500 chars; but see my answer to your next question for reams on how to behave yourself without divine micromanagement, and why. But frankly, it scares me that you can't figure out why child rape is wrong beyond "God sez so"--and that you uphold a law-giver prophet who didn't figure it out either.
RickySTT 5 years ago
shanesmith you're a retard. ever heard of something called moral philosphy? Tons of authors, for 2700 years have stated moral theories, based on logic, sensitivity, human feelings and other source of philosophy. Religion as no monopoly and no religious person (who is not in jail) actually follows a religious moral code.
laguna117 5 years ago
And if you're nor a dumb sheep, you can choose within those secular moral frameworks the one which fits you better... Socrates, Aristoteles, Cicero, Kant, Bentham, Mill, Rawls, whatever. You don't need no god to be moral.
laguna117 5 years ago
There are some logical problems with this comment. First, if every person can choose whichever moral philosophy suites him best, and each be equally right, its called moral relativism. And relativism is a black hole to logic. It's choosing morals based on whims rather than any standard.
I agree, you can be a decent human being without believing in God. But whats the point of that?
shanesmith8 4 years ago
Does your moral philosophy allow you to call people retards? Perhaps it is not based on "sensitivity" or "human feelings."
For a philosophy of ethics, the best author I read during the course of my studies was Jonathan Edwards. You're right that no religious person follows a religious moral code perfectly. That's why I believe that we are sinners who need forgivness for our crimes.
