Looking at the chain of effects it's clear that the signal is running well into the red as you approach the end of the chain. I've been told by other tutors that this is bad practice even though Ableton will accomodate this abuse of 'over'... what are your thoughts on this? No grief, this is an excellent video, thanks for sharing.
@markadamburnett - if you go into the red on the master then yeh, it's a problem. Anywhere else it's fine as Ableton (like Cubase and Logic) has a massive internal headroom before distortion. I've tested Ableton in the same way as I did Logic on this video here - youtube slash ySTLa5ude6U and results are the same. I prefer not to go into the red as a visual thing but sometimes when you are in the heat of the moment it's hard to be housekeeping.
@NarcoticBeats - I put a message on the video explaining why. I've got to keep 'some' things for myself. Maybe one day i'll let people know but for now I'd like to keep it the last thing I have that's a secret ;)
@NarcoticBeats to be fair, he put this tutorial out for free and just wants to keep one thing to himself. and lets be honest, its probably not the most important part of this project. we've seen a bit on the arrangement, sound design, automation and effects etc. i'm sure its not that hard to learn or read about what plugins are suitable to go on a master bus.
Ok hold on! I cant run many tracks in ableton like that. I have a macbook pro and Imac and both with multicore processors run out of juice after about 20 tracks. It seems i can run about 100 in logic. I dont use many plugins that are cpu heavy. I just thought it was the nature of ableton. I know i must be doing something wrong. Any tips?
I just want to say thanks for making the time to do these tutorials. Your a top bloke, your advice is really useful & you make wicked tunes. I think other producers should take a leaf out of your book. Cheers & please keep posting.
Thanks for sharing. Picked up many tips from your vids. Have you made the move to Live completely? I notice most of your productions lately have been in Live.
@TheHedgehog - yeh, most of the production i'm doing these days is in Ableton but it has been influenced by the course development work at Point Blank. If I worked on a new Logic Course i'm sure i'd flip to that, same with Cubase.
@RocMSocMRabbi - At my place I have Genelec 8030 and the Rokit 5s stand up pretty well considering their price. For students on a budget i'd recommend them. Do you have any recommendations in the same price range?
LOL 'Master remains secrets' :-)

@musicprotutorials Sure but what's the harm in just giving the name of the plug-ins? Unless you're embarrassed by your reliance on presets? :}
NarcoticBeats 3 weeks ago
@NarcoticBeats - If I used presets I wouldn't be ashamed, plenty of people use them and get great results.

@deep6ixx it might help if you freeze some of your tracks that reduce what you can do but also reduces the cpu.
hope that helps
