If we were to look at a map of Alexander's Empire, you'll see that much of it encompassed the former Persian lands. Why did Alexander continuously pushed East, rather than West? It was perhaps Western Europe at the time composed of dozens of warring backwards tribes.

Greek became an international language because of Alexander and the spread of the language of the Macedonians to the four corners of the earth. This was the begining of the Hellenistic age. Before Alexander could conquer the East, he and his father beat the hell out of the Illyrians. Epirotes were Molosian Greeks, and Albanians were NOT Illyrians despite Hotza's peudoclaims.
