We are constantly surrounded by radiation. Just turn on a Geiger counter. You get about 2 events per second on only a ~1 square inch surface. There is absolutely no way those numbers in the video are correct. The current activity INSIDE containment is 1Sv (about 100 rad), which would cause mild radiation poisoning with 0-5% chance of death. The highest measured outside the containment is only 1557 uSv, which is the same as 3 chest x-rays. Not at all dangerous. In the worst case, the US might see maybe 2x greater than background radiation. There is absolutely no need to worry.

Also the dose of a CXR is 0.1mSv (ie 1/10000 of a Sievert). 1 Sv as a dose would be the equivalent to twice the dose received by the heaviest contam public living around chernobyl (lifetime increase dose was around 500 mSv). This outlines the issue... depending on the type of radiation and how it is delivered makes a massive difference. ingested, inhaled bound to an organic molecule...

To the best of my knowledge, the reactor has NOT gone into meltdown. The explosion last night was a hydrogen explosion,but the reactor vessel was not compromised. i cant find a chart to confirm my memory, but if im right the dose where 50% live and 50% of ppl die is 500 rads. which is like being close to a nuc det but not getting killed. it seems awfully high compared to all the nuke tests and 3 mile island and chernoble.
