don't do this if you don't know how. its a bad idea in general for normal cars. cause you ruin the syncros or the sleeves that select the gears. older transmissions and bigger trucks have non syncro so you either have to double clutch or this. its fun. but don't do it all the time or else have fun rebuilding a tranny.
@kuelee311 thats the whole point, that the clutch isnt being used...idiotically, seeing as this will kill the synchro, but its their money for repairs..
@1969MustangMACH1 You can do this all you want as much as you want. Nothing will happen to your syncros if your doing it right everytime. I have a 2007 mustang and i've been doing it since it was brand new and they are still fine.
Eminem was popular when I was thirteen. I'm now 21. Christ you're behind.
Also posting a "rev match tutorial" with a song on loud volume over the top is probably not the most intelligent thing you could do. Listening to the engine is difficult.
AND rev-matching is a perfectly good thing to do when driving, done correctly, its better than braking, but you still need to use the clutch.
@Dhalphir definsive much?? its a damn video. not a tutorial. just showing it being done. forgot about the music on, wasnt that loud its just the camera was placed right in front of the speaker :/
it has nuthing to do with your transmission being in god shape if you know what your doing... if ur grinding gears ur gunnascrew up ur tranny... other wise u can do this all u want... truck drivers do it all the time
Sure you can do it, its not hard at all to do it. Actually most cars ( i know mine does) the shifter gets lighter when your close the the proper rpm so its easier then it looks.. But why do it?? It's causes unnecessary damage to the transmission , the clutch was made for a reason..
my truck actualy shifts faster if u dont use the clutch the SM465 was designed to be shifted without the clutch but i use it any way cuz it makes ur sychros last longer
@btman2, If you actually drove a decent automobile like a Mustang youd find very quickly it does not work.. Why dont you just drive an automatic pussy?
@Roger0416 it can be done like 1969mustangmach1 said but u dont want to be doing that you will be burning your clutch well you will be ending up buying up a new clutch and well good luck with that
Every car is different because every car has different gearings, and engine. You probably shouldn't be doing this if you're not 100% familiar with your car. This involves knowing what RPM your engine revs at the same speed with different gear. And yes, it is possible with no tachometer. Better yet, you can do this even on cars with NO synchronizers IF you are familiar with that car. But these days, any modern transmissions have synchronizers lol
lol yeah man i agree, this car i used here doesnt have a tach, you just need a good feel for the car....but in modern cars this is really pretty useless...other then showing off to people who didnt know you could do such a thing lol
Good video, for anyone who doesn't know, this doesn't do any harm to the transmission when done properly (as it appears to have been done here). I've had to drive my car like this before because of a ruptured hydraulic pipe on the clutch, it's a useful technique to know just in case you have a similar issue. I can't say my starter motor was free of damage that day though...
i drove a 95 ranger for 5 years up to 305k miles from 130. stopped using the clutch except for starts at around 180 and never had an issue. if it wasnt for the leaky injector that caught fire i would still be driving it.
really not tryin to be a dick but you know that you have a synchronized tranny you might not be rev matching, the synchros will generally make up for your mistakes, and they arent made to take the stress from the engine
@7inchexhaust It's harmless to your transmission as long as you don't have gear synchros... Truck drivers do it all the time, you should look them up. Most modern cars have synchros now though...
@96F350Kid I've come to the conclusion, as long as you don't have to force the gear shifter into gear and you blip the throttle while down shifting then there's no harm to the transmission. It really comes down to technique and not forcing it. When clutchless shifting, it should be as smooth as a hot knife through butter.
Saves your clutch, but risk mashing up some gears. Not recommended for the faint of heart. Essentially you shift in the the next higher gear ( possible to downshift also) when you are at a certain RPM.
Example- (all cars are different, but your must hit it at the sweet spot Generally between 2500 and 3500) say your in 2nd, and around 3200RPM slip it out of 2nd, the RPM should drop alittle, say to 3000. then you slip it into 3rd. if you miss the sweet spot it won't go into gear.
so... i guess all of you like to save your clutch ... with the risk of smashing your tranny :) oh well... - did you guys know, that if you do rev matching while USING the clutch, you'll also save a lot of clutch worn-out but you won't risk a hefty fee for that transmission repair (while you learned how to do it properly)...
@dwygyfylchi That's what i always asked. Seems pretty pointless to me unless you have an unsncronized tranny or your clutch fails and you have to drive it home or to the shop or such
its the same concept as shifting a dirtbike at the right rpm. Its simple. the only thing a clutch is really useful for is to stop and start off. otherwise its really not needed if you know what your doing.
you WILL not do anything to your clutch first of all idiot, how your not using it. Also, if you do this perfect your really not messing up your synchros. You mess them up trying to find that spot where you match your road speed with your gear speed.
you didnt have to say rev match we all know that you cant no clutch without rev matching. and have fun replacing your syncros if that truck even has any.
This has nothing to do with the clutch, precisly when i do this i'm not useing the clutch so i'm not destroying it as you say i'm actually saving it. the only harm this can do is if you do it incorrectly and grind syncros.
Ive done this in all 4 of my manual cars, my mums civic, my work van, and my mates girlfriends car. If you have a tachometer, just remember how much the revs rise/drop when changing gear and it should be easier to learn.
ya just got to get the rpms where it feels like the perfect time to shift and let of the gas and go for it.....do not try to force it tho....it all takes practice and getting to know your rig.
1995 grand cherokee 4wd 161000 mile as of today i just be nice to my ute and it loves me back as it gets older i ck every thing once aweek crawl under ck bolts look for drips etc still has oring exhast, starter, alt, transmission , transfer case etc is your ranger 4cl?
it's good to have always downshifted, have your synchronizers good, and you can do that.. Molley Greene.. *my 94 range* seems to not like it.. but i've done it a few times.
wow kevin you're such a rebel lol jk...that's cool man I do that with taco haha...oh btw I put a b&m hammer shifter and a street fire ignition box on the stang..its sweeeeeeet lol
Whoops forgot to add it's easier to shift an 18 wheeler like this. It's differnt on one of those transmission, light pressure against the gear and it will "suck" the lever into gear. Pretty cool.
I do this in traffic a lot in stop and go. Start out in 2 then shift 3,4 without the clutch and then back in neutral and coast to a stop. Works well.
How fast were you letting the engine go? I never really had much luck doing this above 2000rpm where there is a big difference in revs between the gears.
I rarely do it, using the clutch just feels so right lol...My truck doesn't have a tach so I couldn't tell you what the engine was spinning at but it felt like closer to 3500? And yes, trucks do this technique.
cool kevin you are quite the rebel plus you look more gangester with the knee raised that high lol. I still don't know if id ever do that on a stick vehicle but its fun to see other people do it!
Lol I do look gangster listening to my rap music shifting with no clutch. this is about my limit for rap...Just a lil bit then my ears start to bleed and I have to scramble to find some classic rock LOL
lol thanks bogar. this truck does have an aftermarket sound system put in by the previous owner. Not as good as the system you have done in your Buick I would imagine.
you can only do that in some vehicals like our graintrucks and the mercury but not my GMC it will not put up with that you should try doin that while downshifting that takes a good ear to find the perfect rpm's
i had a 2000 focus kona edition, man i loved that car, wish i still had it grr. i will get another some day but the svt version, put twin turbos on it!! hahah
don't do this if you don't know how. its a bad idea in general for normal cars. cause you ruin the syncros or the sleeves that select the gears. older transmissions and bigger trucks have non syncro so you either have to double clutch or this. its fun. but don't do it all the time or else have fun rebuilding a tranny.

Righty736 2 years ago

Recently I spent a month getting to and from work doing this as my clutch was nearly non-functional. Upon replacement the MPG jumped up by six.
Winky395 2 years ago
Yes the clutch is a quite important part of a standard tranny lol. What is your vehicle out of curiousity?

Nice Tunes Kevin.

lol thanks bogar. this truck does have an aftermarket sound system put in by the previous owner. Not as good as the system you have done in your Buick I would imagine.
1969MustangMACH1 2 years ago
you can only do that in some vehicals like our graintrucks and the mercury but not my GMC it will not put up with that you should try doin that while downshifting that takes a good ear to find the perfect rpm's

Lol, you should do a 302 mustang 5.0 ford focus swap. Now that would be a fun (expensive) toy!!
1969MustangMACH1 2 years ago
