dude if your a trained professional then you know that OSHA states you have to always use sterile equipment including your gloves and wash your hands? where is your mayo towel? if your gonna jack all that the smart thing is jack a mayo towel too and that is not a 23 gauge needle its called a butterfly needle 23 would be a large needle im sorry to be rude with this comment but i gotta voice my thoughs
@MrLovelynightmare FYI not to be rude but it's a training video.....Saying you have to wash your hands is ok. That's what I had to do in my class is we would just say 'I'm going to wash my hands first' then continue with the steph. She even says that the gloves don't need to be sterile...I should know cause I've been doing this job for over 4 years!!! Just thought I'd clarify for you!
I have been doing labs now for 4mnths and Ive learned a lot...I have NOOOO problem drawing blood now...thanks, I learned that I was advancing the needle too far into the vein or I was going in beside the vein....again Thanks!!!
Thanks for the tutorial, Im a nurse and have a hard time drawing blood :( I can feel the vein and everything but when I go in there is no return,....I was told that I was going in the wrong way... im constantly doing a hit and miss...any pointers???
As a phlebotomist I can let you know that there are three key factors when preforming venipuncture. First you want to locate the BEST VEIN. The median cubetal vein, and the cephalic veins seem best to me. If the person has bad veins you may use a butterfly to draw blood from the hands(very painful). Once the sight is prepared anchor the vein with your thumb on your non dominant hand. Insert the needle at a 10-15 degree angle. Be confident!
main pointer, listen to the patient. if they know where they have success, go there, no matter where they point you to. just listen. they know which spot works. make they comfortable and you will be too. A lot of phlebs are too wrapped up in themselves to just listen to the patient. Ask them before you tie the turn. do you have a preference for which arm we do, or does it not matter? Also, if you use a butterfly needle, dont be nervous to move it if you feel the vein. when ur gentle, its fine
Ash!! (Its me Jerry - lol) - Umm ure crazy to post this on YouTube of all places, where high & mighty nurses out there are just waitin to pounce on the 1st "mistake"...like the one that just posted a month ago. No worries though, its probably just only Donita.
Few things you shouldn't have done. Let the site AIR DRY, clean with alcohol in circular motion, starting at the center and work your way out. Don't repalpate after cleaning the site, and NEVER place your finger above where you are inserting the needle!
@MrLovelynightmare shut up my sister did great!
dont be so negative....if you have nothing nice to say.dont say anything at all
