Telemetry and video shows that Dana hit debris from Carpentier's car before the fatal crash and his car front end car was damaged and could not brake. Wrong place, wrong time, and it's not so clear the driver could have done anything to change the outcome. RIP.
and when you say why didnt he just slam on the brakes if you have ever done the speeds at which these cars go things happen in a mili second not a split second not a half second jamming on breaks in race just causes a bigger crash all you can do is make 1 decision thats all you ahve time for and thats to either keep the throttle down or lift and try to avoid you cant jam on the brakes.
Let the ones who have actually driven 200+mph before criticize a drivers ability or inablilty to drive a race car saying Paul Dana was unqualified to drive a race car is pure BS who are you to say who is or isnt qaulified for racing how many sanctioned races have you competed in?
@dylanzz1 He was a fine driver....but......If he would have lifted like several drivers in the paddock mentioned that day he would still be here. He had plenty of time from first yellow light to impact. Just stating the facts. It was all documented by the sanctioning body in their report. And it was not a race as you mentioned. It was Sunday morning warm up at Homestead.
As I'm watching all those accidents in Nascar, ChampCar, Cart or Indycar. Or generally American racing, especially ovals I can't stop thinking that most those fatalities is caused by the lack of ability to use breaks when something happens on the track! Come on guys. It's not a win or die situation! Use breaks and let yourselve finish the season! You all have spotters, radio, flags... use it! Or kill each other... It's sad to say it but if he slowed down a little he would have avoided it...
@thpc You do realize they are going 200+ mph right? They can't just suspend the laws of physics and perform some kind of jedi brake and steer maneuver.
@Gafaton Obviously, but watch such videos closer (in car), barely anyone does anything to avoid crashes. Of course, the ones driving exactly behind the spinning car do something but most of other cars just run into smoke and flames at full throttle. If there's any potential clear line through the wreckage when not on yellow flag most of the guys exploit it in the RACE manner. I'm an online simracer and even though it's in many ways uncomparable but I could say I know how the driver should react.
@rochez Not really. It's exactly what I said in my first comment. They also should have used breaks as soon as they realized something happens in the front. Smoke and flames are very easy to notice I think... even in the heat of battle. Obviously, I don't know IF they noticed or why didn't ract if they did. I've found great example of good reaction. Little unsuccessful though. Blue car at 0:24 to the end: watch?v=S5n8oAR4g7Q
Well for one thing Paul Dana was the one who ran into the guy who spun out he wasn't the one who spun out that's why he passed away because of how big of a hit it was
@VicenzoV No, it's not full throttle the whole time, which just shows your ignorance of the sport. Way to assume something about a sport without doing any research at all...If it's just "full throttle the whole time", how are there differences in qualifying times? You could at least maybe watch a race before you go assuming the sport is stupid and boring and dangerous.
@VicenzoV Yeah I know what you mean, you're into putting invalid and misguided points on youtube videos and unwilling to do any research to back it up. Otherwise known as a troll.

he deserves what he got, he didnt slow down at all, his spotter should have said something too but didnt he see the car sliding in front of him? he should have never been allowed with in 20 feet of that car, let alone be allowed to drive it, he put many lives in danger (its lucky that other driver didnt get killed)burn in hell Mr. Dana
@geterhero still youre talking about a man, lost his life, having left friends and family. its a real luck, that because of his fault, no one got injured, but its still really sad, that he died. i dont know what would you feel, if someone would talk about your passed loved one, like you did. shame on you.
@abysshun he put other people's lives at risk, what was he even doing driving that car? he was an experienced driver, im just happy the only one he killed was himself (it could have been a hell of alot worse, and frankly, we could do with one less dumbass behind the wheel)
@geterhero that might be true, but it was not intentional, i share Frigus5's opinion, i wont type unnecessarily. Nobody deserves being sent to hell for this. I respect your personal (sane) opinion, but please behave. Especially with people, who are not longer able to reply to your crazy, insane slander.
@geterhero Holy shit, you are a sick and pathetic person. I hope you burn in hell for what you have said.
No one intentionally kills themselves as you, a fat dumbfuck, thinks. Please, go to hell. You are the sickest of the sick. You have taken trolling to the most disgusting level I have ever seen. Please, just rot in hell you piece of shit.
@Frigus5 ummm, yea people do intentionally kill themselves but where did i say he did it intentionally? i said he was stupid and somone who should have never sat behind the wheel for his and everyone else's safety, the only good thing was he only killed himself and not other people (and btw, tone it down on the language)
@geterhero Paul Dana was a very talented race car driver dude. You can't say that. And who the hell is gonna make me tone down my language? You're a dumbass. I can talk however I want to a dumbass like yourself. You are showing no respect to a dead man. Matter of fact, if you can say that, I can dance on your grave when you die. Because you might as well be doing that to Paul Dana.
@Frigus5 if i knew where his grave was, i would, and i honestly dont care if anyone does that to me, and i talked to you respectfully, the least you could do is the same
@geterhero What is wrong with you? You have not talked to me respectfully. YOU HAVE INSULTED A DEAD PERSON! HAVE YOU NO SHAME!? SHOW A LITTLE RESPECT. Holy shit you are a sick fuck.
The cars being able to protect it's driver has it's limits, it's assumed that the driver will have control of the situation. Clearly not the case here. Every other car was slowing down. It's sad but some blame must be on Dana(on probably his spotter)
These courses are so fucking dangerous. I'm from Germany, and i can't understand, why it's normal in the US to drive races on those tracks. In the F1 no one died since 1994. In Champcar, Indycar or Nascar more people die in crashes like these.
motorsport is dangerous....f1 hasnt hasnt had a fatality in along time, us racing hasnt had one in a few years either... there was a fatality at brands hatch this year in f2 so.... motorsport is dangerous... not the tracks.... oval racing is a different disipline to circuit racing...death can happen anywhere. be happy no one has died, dont use that statistic as a barometer...watch some indycar racing..you may be pleasantly suprised...nothing can be a s bad a s the last f1 race at abu dhabi!

it took off as a random safety car was out but now i no it was the vibrations of wtcc are to much.
i have the nascar09 game and it isnt too bad but f1 is more speed on proper circuits not just ovals.
yeah but f1 doesnt race on many proper circuits anymore... all tilke dromes with acres of run off and crappy non event corners... spa, monza, silverstone in its current form, interlagos, they are prper circuits....
dont get me wrong, i love f1 and f1 will be f1 but indycar and cart etc have had the best circuits on the planet..id kill to see f1 at road america! its all good!
He was the guy who hit the vision car that had crashed into the wall ... I'm going to get lots of thumbs down for saying this, but Paul dana had no business in that car. He wasn't a good enough driver and just didn't have the skills. Things like that are inevitable when you put unskilled drivers in the seat ... He never should have been put into that position. Shame that he died the way he did.
i think that u r right and rong, coz u r right that a skillful driver should have been there, but if u dont give them the chance you'll never no, coz look at jenson button, join f1 in 2000 won his first race in hungary in 2006 & 2009 he is world champion, the driver needs the car to be perfect for his driving style.
@AtomicMutant its a shae that he did die, but your wrong about not being in that car, not everyone that start in a race car is going to be as skilled as the others which is why they call them rookies, if u dont give them time to learn and if u dont let them learn, then they will never be able to be a good driver like the rest of them. Adam petty, kenny irwan both in the nascar winston cup, they didnt have that much skills themselves, they were rookies, both young men killed in the series
