Very welcome to have a listen to AirwavesJoxfields Vegetable (Elephant ) Man with Joxfields tribute-to-David-Gilmour's-ca-1971-playing guitar at 1.59. If you make a visit; hope you enjoy it! Cheers!
Nice playing! Although I have to disagree about light strings being "unmusical" and an "insult" to any "decent" player (for the record, I don't play light strings). They sound brighter and have more definition than heavier gauge strings - just because they're easier to play doesn't necessarily mean that they have less musicality; they just have a different tone. Although I believe it is just lazy to play light gauge because of the ease of play, rather than because you prefer the sound.
@lptomtom Thanks, and, sorry. A lot of the time these vids come from me just setting a camera down wherever's convenient and jamming. I can't ever play something the same way twice, so if I look at it after a good take and the camera has shifted, not much I can do. That's a good idea though, maybe I'll post a version where I don't worry so much about the take, but make sure to show my hands clearly.
This is so creative.........a stimulating version and interpretation of a classic........ I really wish you could film a version of this where the audience could see your left hand/fingers and fret etc. It would be wonderful for the guitarists out here to be able to see what you are doing and learn from you. Keep following your muse.
@shaconage Thanks for the kudos. Yah, someone latter in the comments thread said the same thing... camera placement is kind of a haphazard affair in my world. I might have to do another take of this where everyone can see what I'm doing, though.
I saw you mentioned fat old sun in the description, you should check out my cover. Great job on this one, I love re-imaginings of songs. Whats the point of a cover if you play it exactly like the original?
@EquivocationOverload Mmmmmm. You did justice to Fat Old Sun. That song is so gorgeous. I gotta ask, what is that place you guys film in? Have you got a whole empty house to play in or something?
great take.... I get some irate comments on my simple cover of this song also. I thot yours was fantastic. something about this song, people are offended by a cover that is not an exact replica of meddle. i don't get it. it's a song. fuck. you like a song, you have a guitar, you play the song. why do people care how you play it?
that was amazing man. my only regret is can't see your fingers on the guitar.
@bluegrassbarry Thanks! That's a frequent request on this video in particular. If I wasn't so drunk, I'd film a version right now with the focus on my hands. But I gotta throw on some Outer Limits and crash... I will post a version with the fingers in full view, though.
hey man you got good stuff, im sure people would be more aprreciatin if they saw this in person rather than a tiny screen. dont try to be a youtube hit, go for it the real way =]
@bhawksfan4vr Thanks. It's cool, man. I get way more positive comments than negative, and if someone's opinion is honest, I respect it either way. I'm just on this to have fun.
dude, listenin to this makes me want to turn off my computer and pick up my guitar!!!! iam really diggin the blues runs, by far the most original cover of fearless that i've ever herd!!!
Nice. i like the classic blues ending. I don't know how to explain this but upon my 1st listening, you make me think of Micahael Hedges playing the blues with Pink Floyd lyrics. (I'm aware Pink Floyd and blues aren't always a big stretch).
The cover sounds great. I thought it was interesting though how you take positive and negative criticism in stride. I'm sure the eight-track upside the head had something to do with it. :) Keep it up. Do what you do. It's original.
Dont try to reinvent perfection. You can do what you want; but this shit is too much for someone who gives a shit about retaining the value of something beautiful.
No, it definitely wasn't :-) although in my own mind, I always heard a bluesy element added, owing to peculiarities in my brain chemistry due to getting thunked on the head by a Blind Willie Johnson 8-track tape when I was very young. So for my take on it, I just played it out the way I heard it.
Sorry you didn't like it. I guess we have different ideas about what it means to be respectful. Pink Floyd is far and away my favorite band, and I like to illuminate different things that I hear in songs sometimes.
I dont htink you need to copy the changes perfectly to make beautiful orignal music. After all, it seems the way music progresses through history is based upon the fact that people steal other peoples ideas and put a twist on them and make them their own.... maybe youre just jealous?
Wow, very high praise from a fellow floyd fan! Thanks! check my channel... I don't think I have any more Floyd posted, but there's about 24 vids in all.
Shame Gilmour didn't do this with the recently deceased Rick Wright on his recent tour, tho he did do songs like Wots uh the deal from Obscured by clouds..
The best song on the album (Meddle) by a country mile!!
Gilmour did a cover of Remember a day on Jools Holand after Ricks passing btw
Very cool man. Probably my favorite Pink Floyd song and this version breathes new life into it. It's cool to see someone playing with a lot of feeling you know?
Someone once said to me, "We are artists! We have a responsibility to share our unique sense of beauty with the world!" To which I said, "You're a crazy frenchwoman, and old enough to be my grandmother! Stop groping my thigh!"
But that aside, thanks, man. You know your opinion means a lot.
