He obviously got through the airport at the beginning of his flight. The punishment the other side would probably have been a lot worse. The more they ban drugs the higher the price and more temptation to smuggle. An interesting predicament. The war on drugs seems to be being lost.

Im reading this book at the moment called Out of it by Stuart Walton. It says that the War on Drugs is a waste of time and money. Most of the harm that drugs cause comes directly from the fact that they have been criminalized so people seeking to get high need to source them from the criminal underworld at high prices, forcing many to steal and rob to support their habits. Legalization would cripple the criminal cashflow and the money could be used to support treatment programs for addicts.

I watched a program on ~TV last night called 'Dog Patrol' here in England. A smuggler flew in and got caught with 3.5 kilos of cocaine. He was jailed for 6.5 years. In the UK that means he'll serve half the sentance.

Now here is my point. I work my ASS off for £23,000 a YEAR (UK average wage) and probably see about £8,000 (if lucky) of that after taxes and bills. ONE kilo of untaxed cocaine is maybe £25,000 NOT including the profit - you do the math.

@sweetypie000 Yes. Interesting to know how much gets through. Since the prices are high it would be logical to smuggle very small amounts. When large amounts are smuggled the problem is the weight. Even 1 kilo is a lot. At 50k per kilo it may be worth trying say 0.2 kilos. However, one would have to make more trips = more risk. More trips may show up on passport, which may look suspicious. Best way would be to post it in very small amounts. Still risky though. In the end you get caught I think.

What a waste of effort.. the criminalisation of those drugs that is. These drugs still get sold, but at very high prices, profits to the nasty people who are motivated by those high rewards despite the threatened penalties. Give addicts a legal supply of known quality on prescription, then they don't have to pay the high prices the criminal pushers require to justify the risks they take in their enterprise.
