They had to recommend to leave one window unwinterized because of the "spf" (stupid public factor).. There's gonna be some retard that watches the video and then stapple guns thick 20mil mylar to his 7 year olds window and then says it's their fault when the kid can't get out. cheers
believe me, i KNOW that drafty windows will kill me with the utilities. but alas, good advice. i have bubble wrap left over from my recent move. im glad i saved it.
no, its heat efficient. also you could just put the plastic on the window sill and it would still be operable. also if its the winter and you care about saving money on heating, you probably wont need to open the window.
Just out of curiosity...won't sheets of Styrofoam covered with aluminum foil placed behind your window work a little better, even though they are more expensive? I know you can't see through them, this is just for those of us who don't care about appearance.
dont do the duct tape thing lol, but yes, run to walmart and pick up a box of the shrink version, it works great. Youll have lower bills and warmer toes! Ive been doing it since the early 90's every single year.
It's not rocket science guys. They provide convenient material. You're paying for Convenience, and the transparent design, more durability. It keeps the cold wind out by making a tight seal.
More air tight home -> Less cool air comes in
Reduces how hard the furnace has to work ergo reducing cost of bills.
leave one window in each room unwrapped for a fire escape. SERIOUSLY? I MEAN SERIOUSLY? IT JUST PLASTIC WRAP WITH DOUBLE SIDED TAPE..... -.-''''''''''
LOL thats what I was thinking. I've been using this shrinking plastic for about 10yrs. it works great. To those who say it doesnt work in winter, yes it does. When you apply the dbl stick tape, run the blow drier over it once before putting up the plastic so its not cold. As for escaping a fire, put it on ALL the windows, you can rip it down with little effort in an emergency. I put this up last week (in the cold) & the temp went up in my apt 5 degrees BEFORE I was finished with the whole place.
@punxgr8 well they did stop short of recommending keeping one window open in each room open in case of fire. And bubble wrap? Kidding me? By far most heat loss is from air infiltration via leaky windows not radiation through the glass.

its hard to do when its cold already because the wind and cold make it hard to get it perfectly tight. And its hard to shrink it too because your heat ain't that hot compared to the crazy amount of cold behind it...i dont know if anyone knows what i am saying but i tried.. The best is to do it before it gets freezing outside...
@1c3y can I kiss the dead girl?
