  • All the NES game music sounds like it was made from the same ass Casio keyboard, by the same effing guy.

  • Foggy land gives me chills. At least its uncomfortable. :)

Great stuff altogether. I still own it.

  • 0:12 reminds me Adventure Island 3

  • What's the music that plays at the very beginning?

  • i see giygas is having fun

  • it might just be me that hasnt played in years, but the final level sounds off tone...

  • oh hahahaha, in the middle of hearing this when the creepy level music came on, i was like Oh Geeezz, it was crazy weird to play and deal with certain creatures but i dont know of any other game that gave me all the emotions, maybe Astyanax or Wizards and Warriors lol.

  • I havent played this game in years, but ive beaten it like 3 or 4 times, i loved it. It did scare me at times and was tough in some areas lol. I liked the upgrades, and the ugly dog boss !

  • Main Dungeon song is missing!

  • What's the clip in the beginning?

  • u missed the boss fight music but still good job

  • Great game! I like when i tell people this is one of my favorite nes games and they're like "Faxana what?, never heard of it!"

  • This game actually had everything back then... Good Story, excellent Music, nice Graphics, Fluent Gameplay, "new" things like Inventory & Equip, relatively large map and password. Don't know why it was so unknown back then :(... Sadly I couldn't speak any english, so I never got far ^^

  • How could that game passed soooo under the radar?? Anyway thx for the upload man great music.

    Thanks to all the O and 0 and I and l <- capital i and lower L :D

  • Best action/RPG ever made! Better than all The Legend of Zelda games. Deserves more acclaim than it receives. 'Overworld' will probably always be my fave. I hear it in my head a lot.

  • this game has one of the thickest atmospheres in any game i reckon...this and system shock II!! the eathy organic feel of faxanadu is what really sets it apart and stuff like finding death so early...its so weird. "dont try too hard" says one of the villagers in the first town. nearly completed it but was lost in the evil place lol. could not be made better i reckon, this game could only ever exist with such success on an 8bit platform, just makes the atmosphere!! i love it.

  • Daybreak wins by far.

  • This brings back some memories!

  • Oh!!! Faxanadu!!

its Composed by Jun Chikuma. :)

  • World of Mist at 4:20. Man how I loved that tune. Thanks.

  • damn...the jap are good in anithing :)

  • Yeah the Zrnis Castle, final level ! Awesome music, impossible maze, but it take 10 seconds with the Wing Boots ! I've finished this game last holidays.

  • i had this game as a kid, and i never realized that the mantras were a password system, so i never got very far.

but i also never knew its sound track was so incredible

  • you too? wow... I thought I was the only one that didnt know mantras were passwords as a kid haha.

  • Alright people. Let's see this game on the next gen. consoles :) Bring back Faxanadu !!!!

  • @Gunnar28

Lets also change the color scheme from rust to something bearable.

  • @Gunnar28

Well it just came out for Wii's Virtual Consoles at least. That's pretty awesome. I remake would be cool though.

  • where is that song in the beginning from?

  • Its the forest maze theme from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the seven stars(SNES).

  • The face of the Evil One appears in the shifting psychedelic colors @ 5:55 ! {8-O

The final temple theme is a remix of the theme you hear in the fortress Fraternal (the first fortress you must pillage to get the mattock -- aka pick ax).

And I still love your intro music! XD

  • best action/RPG ever made!

  • I love this game, thanks so much for posting it up on youtube everyone needs to hear its soundtrack

  • ohhh Faxanadu!!

  • excelent i never finished that game

  • That game is so utterly amazing! To0 bad it was overshadowed The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy. If you ask me, Faxanadu was a lot more fun than either of those franchizes. I never did play the original Xanadu, so I can't say anything about that, but Faxanadu was deliciously engrossing and captivating.

  • I remember this game. A friend had it but he rarely played it, later I got my hands on the rom and wow this is a good game! The controls are probably better on a NES like other games but the sound is something I remember because it was so dark. I killed the dwarf king (the dragon) but then I got lost after passing through a door and still don't know how to complete the game. Oh well, it was a great game nonetheless. :)

  • i love the deathmusic in faxanade

  • rofl!

  • This game really holds a place in my heart. It was one where I remember a game as a kid but only knew it was called this a few years ago. Really top quality 8-bit music.

  • yeah your a real genius allright...jezz I don't understand people like you.

  • Yeah the password music was extremly depressive, especially when the password didn't work: there was nearly no difference between "L" and "I" and I remember when I was sitting in front of the tv nearly loosing my mind 'cause of the f**** password. It took me 3 years 2 beat this game just because I didnt understand the language and the very important hints of the people. Nevertheless it was worth not to give up, great game

  • thanks. i really appreciate the time that you took to put this together. i greatly enjoy old NES soundtracks and this game was amoung the best.

  • FACT: I've played Faxanadu since the moment I laid hands on a Nintendo 8-BIT back in 1992. I was 6 when I got to play it, as well as my dad, since he thought it was interesting.

Anyway, the point of it is this...it took me 4 YEARS to find the boss' keep in the Final Temple. If I knew there was a ladder among all that Grey stone & whatnot, I'd have already been done with it since then in 1992 rather than having to wait until the age of 10 on October 11, 1996 to beat it.

    Very tricky 8-BIT indeed

  • oooh i loved faxanadu! and i'm just 16 but this game is one of my favorites!

  • wouldn't it be cool to have this game remade for a newer Nintendo system like N64 or even the Wii?

  • One of the most underated NES games out there, just fantastic.

  • @zfcamaro It's underrated? That's really being said way too often. People just seem to call any game they like underrated nowadays.

  • @brutalhits

FF VII was waaaaay underrated!!!!!11111oneone!!1 :p

Seriously, I agree. People who've played old games know of Faxanadu, and everyone loves it :p

  • That password song is so fuckin depressing.

I remember distinctly being 5 or 6 years old, slaving away for hours saving up for the death magic spell, and somehow being unable to kill the zombies or whatever with it and not realizing that they were zombies.

  • What a great soundtrack! I really love Daybreak and the password song! great post!

  • password-melody = desperation... :D i hated to type these extralong passwords....yaaarghh

  • damn that password screeb melodie was stuck in my head for years and sometimes i remembered it and hummed it haha

  • password screen was always my favorite. MUST. FIND. ROM.

  • I used to play this game for hours at a time. I even beat it without cheating, then used my Game Genie and got infinite magic and power then played it over and over. Those were the days!

  • lawl i don't think i've ever beat the game with out my game genie XDD i always use infinite health and magic. so good for you!! XD

  • one of my prefered games when im a child

    5/5

  • I just spent 7 hours straight playing this game (from 15:00 - 22:00) and I still didnt complete it. Lost to the final Monster! Then watched Match of the Day on BBC1.

  • @mramo Back in the day, we called in to the hit hotline (cost about 10 bucks).

  • Definitely one of the top ten NES scores. I've always admired this one. Daybreak (treetop level) in particular was one of the most complex pieces written for NES. I tried to transcribe it for piano and gave up quickly :). Perhaps some superhuman will do it eventually and post it on Utube!

  • I'm a piano player too, and just listening to it I'd have to have someone playing it with me because the melody is really complex.

  • Awesome!

  • This is such a great game, I remember playing all the way through it one summer. I bought 2 sealed copies off ebay a few years back just to have it again.

  • a Tipp for all fans of this soundtrack - search for the rearrangement from "virt". I think its outstanding. i love that game - bought it over ebay a few days ago.

  • @henrymatthes Agreed. It's older, but one of Virt's best IMO

  • i used always some how miswrite down my mantra..... that game is a real son of a bich 2 beat with and without the game genie!!

  • Thanks for posting!!.. I love this music. brings back lots of memories and is very well composed.

  • I don't know why I loved this game so much. I'll have to go back and play it, using the 1500 gold trick for one of my Great Moments.
