  • STRONG 8 for me.

  • Halfway through this review I pull up the album on Spotify, and now halfway through the album Anthony face is still paused with his mouth open at 2:52. Loving it.

  • Haha, I was surpirised to see this. Oh man, I've been following this guy since his Wolf + Lamb releases. So amazing..i'm speechless.

  • MOM JEANS

  • Best Album of 2011!

  • Anthony,

As always nice review. One comment: I'm surprised you didn't mention the danceability of some Jaar's tracks. I understand the whole 'too deep for you' criticism of it, but the redeeming quality of his tracks are the fact that they make me want to dance...in a really weird and primal way...but dance nonetheless.

There's a lot of stuff out there that is far less rhytmically pleasing and far more pretentious than this album.

  • Liking this album after just a couple listens. Thanks for the rec.

Feeling the experimental tendencies of John Maus as well as the dark mood of Two Lone Swordsmen, especially in the title track with those dark, juicy keyboards.

  • glad i checked this out after i saw it on your favorite album of 2011 (so far). I definitely hear a bit of fourtet on this album too, especially on the track variations. Definitely agree that it is kind of all over the place, but I like those sort of fractured albums. Nice.... real nice.

    Oh yeah...

  • THUMBS UP FOR "MAKING A MIXTAPE FOR REALLY REALLY REALLY WEIRD GIRLS YOU ARE ATTRACTED TO"... excellent album, i bought it on vinyl just because of the name, checked it out really quick at the store

  • Thumbs up for Kraftwerk's "Radioactivity" album in the background!

  • i like to listen to the albums you review, as you review them.

  • Bro, the I got a line is from the ray charles song. You didn't know this how? O _o

  • Did you ever Give a 10?!?!

  • Field Rotation - Acoustic Tales.

  • Love the threadless shirt. I have the same one :D

  • This album is so good. Took me a few listens to really get into it, but now it's one of my definite AOTY's.

  • Fuck everything about James Blake, this is the true up and coming electronic mastermind.

  • Fuck everything about James Blake, this is tue t

  • For me, this is the best release of the year - fundamentally because Nic manages to fuse so many genres together, which act as a collage for a perfect art piece. Latin american, spanish, traditional russian patriotic and even the sound of running water and children playing. But the slicing on the cake is how he has pushed himself to merge all of these world wide traditional styles with soulful lyrics and trippy electro tech beats. For me (an opinion only) S.I.O.N is a musical mastermind. Great.

  • you have to see him live!!! I saw him at Melt! festival, and this dude is a pro at mixing on stage!

  • Nicolas Jaar - Colomb

  • JEFF the brotherhood- WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS

  • thumbs up if the needle drop sent you he...oh wait....

  • I disagree. I really don't like the vocals and the lyrics to the title track. No doubt it's the "worst" song on the album

  • Du vrai bonbon

  • the vocals ruin the title track for me. But etre, colomb, i got a, and keep me there are all absolutely beautiful tracks for some much needed downtempo stoning. the other tracks have their moments - 8/10

i love how you compare the album to mathew dear and panthu. they are also in the same playlist for me; waiting for my slowed 'down' mood to be heard..

  • this album pretty much clicked for me instantly. probably because I'm used to hearing music as desolate as this, maybe. but this is definitely original. One thing that keeps it from a 9 for me is Jaar's vocals on some tracks. For example, his singing totally ruins the title track for me (which I didn't like that much in the first place). I know it's just a handful of tracks, but still.

    Otherwise, high 8, easily. :3

  • i stopped listening to this album after the first 5 minutes. maybe i'll give it another go

  • hahah sick review. keep it up

  • Best album of 2011 so far.

  • watch?v=vLWwFt-SnbA

I hope you already know about it. If that catches your attention you should try your damnedest and find the RA podcast mix that Jar did. Amazing. Cheers.

  • This is an example of a, "grower"

  • Just listened to this for the first time its really great. Feels like its gonna grow on me.

  • toooooo bad.song 3 is 48 sec song 11 is 118 sec

only "varations" is something in this lp but not any kind of .....apocalypse.

love him but don't respect him :)

  • this guy is a hack..if you wanna hear a real talent...check out the new James Blake album

  • This is my fave album so far this year ....... LOVE IT I am prepared to go a 9/10!!!!!

    PEACE LOVE & BEATS

  • i'm a sucker for a good beat. The sample song started off pretty sweet then kinda faded off but that was only after one listen i would like to hear more by the guy

  • Lovin this album. Thank you sir for the recomendation!

  • He is great!

  • I recently discovered the needle drop via NPR, not sure what to make of it. It's like Pitchfork for those who don't like to read. Have at the new Bibio album and that will solidify my decision to keep visiting or not.

  • Intriguing sound but a little too film school for repeated listens. Will be great to see what he does next.

  • Loving "Variations", the intro. So hypnotic.

  • I'm a really, really, really weird girl, and this mixtape was made for me...

  • This record really hits the spot for me,.

Have you listened to the new Jamie xx & Gil scott-heron remix record? Maybe you could review it? Peace :)

  • Talk about a boring album. Doesn't hold up to his first ep. Electronic album wise, Sandwell District made a far better album than Jaar.

  • based on your words, i expected a little more from this album. i don't find it nearly as interesting as you describe it, sadly.. all i hear is rhodes and hip hop beats. some tasty sounds, yes, but nowhere near as experimental as i thought it would be *shrugs*

  • thanks anthony for introducing me to this, it's awesome!!

  • I've now listened to this album several times through and I gotta say, it's pretty damn good. I really enjoy how he makes beats out of really unusual/basic things like his "mouth noises" and insects fluttering (not quite sure on that one. haha)

  • THUMBS FOR ANDY D.

  • Thanks for this. I have been really digging this album too.

  • Balance her in between your eyes is my tune. Its beautiful.

  • Love this album. Picked it up Sunday afternoon and have been listening to it all day. Spot on review. 'I Got A Woman' is my tune of 2011 so far.

  • Meh... not too impressed.

  • 2deep4me you say? Intredasting...

  • Who, Greeb is troubled!

On another note, the new Tim Hecker is worth a review. His best since Harmony in Ultraviolet I reckon.

I recommended an album that wasn't King of Limbs. Can I have a prize now?

  • I don't know about the rest of the album, because I haven't hear it yet, but the title track is pretty similar to some of the songs on the Gorillaz latest album. Especially with the bass and synths.

  • Sounds great -- can't wait to check this out!

Oh, and I LOLed at the mom jeans.

  • Radiohead - The King Of Limbs

  • Anthony is waiting till the second part of Radiohead's album comes out because there's going to be a second part. Just listen to the last lyric on Seperator "If you think this is over you're wrong." There's more coming.

  • People. Listen to Nicolas Jaar, he's good.

  • How about Earl Sweatshirts lp? You gave enough love to Tyler the Creator that it would be cool to hear the other side of Odd Future.

  • This album kinda reminded me of a Tangerine Dream album.

  • KING OF LIMBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Review Colin Stetson's new album! Some of the most innovative sounds I've heard as of late.

  • @Greeb17 Schizophrenia.

  • @Greeb17 I'm not deciding what anyone should think. I think you need some help. People just like hearing other opinions. I do, and I'm sure you do in some cases, too. Bouncing ideas off of one another creates a dialogue.

  • @Greeb17 grow the fuck up

  • @Greeb17
