Omg! This just happened to me today! I found a dying rock dove in my back yard. I tried to call an animal shelter or something to find out what to do, but it died on my kitchen floor :'( So I took it in the very back of our yard to bury it and there was a birdhouse with a swallow nest. As I was trying to dig a hole for the poor dead bird another bird was attacking me! I defended myself with the shovel and if I had really been trying to hit the swallow I would have had to give two bird funerals.
The Tree Swallows are very protective of their little ones. They'll only dive bomb you after the eggs have hatched and the fledglings are about ready to leave the nest. They are fun to watch as they swoop through the air catching bugs and flies to feed their young. Tree Swallows will come very close to you, but they only want you to move away from their territory. They are beneficial helpful to your area, as they feed on the mosquitoes and those other unwanted small flying pests.
i had the same thing happen to me while i was taking my dog for a walk, the crazy thing kept hitting me in the head, so i swatted it and accidentally killed the poor thing :(
I've been attacked by those birds before. It was really creepy
