@ministercreek Where did you get your training in Biblical studies--from a cult? You are prob. just a fake who likes to agitate Christians. Well, goofy...didn't work here. You are so ignorant, it is beyond compare! I feel sorry for you. If you care so much about others, why don't you do as many of us real Christians do:Proclaim Christ! Oh, no..You got to be right, even when you know so very little. But you can judge. Well, remember: We will be judged as we have judged. Cursed? Hmmm...You may be.
@ministercreek You ought to attend a Lutheran Church. I recommend the Missouri synod, because they are most conservative. It is a totally scriptual, completely Bible-based church, as Luther reformed it to be. Let's see...you're of what faith? I know fundamentalists have a prob. with Lutherans, or maybe you are of the "non-denominational" denomination(yes, it is considered a denomination)!! Or the Jimmy Swigart type(now there's one to watch)! The lists could go on, but I won't stoop as you have!!
@ministercreek To call the Lutheran Church the !st daughter of the RCC shows me how pathetically ignorant you are. You are a liar, sir. I am sure you are a David Stewart wannabe, by the sound of it. He just loves damning perople to hell. But he is a joke(that has been unmasked by other fellow believers). As Lutherans, we believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. We believe He died for our sins. And we believe we are justified by Him and sanctified by the Holy Spirit. You are spreading lies.
@ministercreek You are another stone thrower who has no clue about the Lutheran Church, especially, I'm sure, the LCMS. You "holier-than-thou" types love to judge, but you have no understanding of the Scriptures. God can work through any means he chooses--and He does. I will not argue with you, for your eyes and ears are closed to the truth. I've seen your type before: snake-handler preachers claiming they are the only ones who have "THE TRUTH".You cannot deny the aforementioned verses, can you?
You guys can make as much relevance arguing about whether or not jack really climbed a bean stalk and killed a giant. Fairy tales, accept them as traditions and live for goodness sake.
That baby is NOT SAVED because some minister pours a little water on an infants forehead. You Lutheran minister are lying to this child and to your parish. Shame on you! preaching "another gospel"
@ministercreek "That baby is NOT SAVED..." Really? I Peter 3:21 reads, "Baptism...now saves you." Period. "Repent and be baptized...for the forgiveness of your sins" (Acts 2:38). What else does that mean? God gives faith and salvation in Baptism, which is an application of Christ's complete work on the cross. That's not "another gospel."
@AnHonestChristian So how can an infant repent and believe the gospel? How exactly does pouring or sprinkling a little water regenerate that infant exactly? Baptism is always by full immersion and is for those who have repented and believed on Jesus Christ. See Acts 8:36-38. Baptism does not save. Faith in Jesus Christ ALONE SAVES AND JUSTIFIES the sinner. Read Romans 3:21-31, Romans Chapter 4, Galatians 2:15-21, Ephesians 1:12-14, Epephesians 2:8-9, Titus 3:4-7, John 3:15-18, John 6:29 and 6:47
@ministercreek I agree that faith alone saves. The Holy Spirit creates faith in the heart of the infants who are baptized. If you don't believe me, check out Romans 6:3-11, Galatians 3:26-27, Titus 3:3-7. Credobaptism is only for those adults who were not baptized as infants, as recorded in Acts, which makes sense, seeing as how Jesus had only just instituted Baptism. Baptism is not necessarily immersion because when the Apostles were baptized with the Holy Spirit, He was "poured out" ( 2:33)
@ministercreek "That baby is NOT SAVED..." Really? I Peter 3:21 reads, "Baptism...now saves you." Period. "Repent and be baptized...for the forgiveness of your sins" (Acts 2:38). What else does that mean? God gives faith and salvation in Baptism, which is an application of Christ's complete work on the cross. That's not "another gospel."
@womanwonder10 The Lutheran Church is just the 1st daughter of the Roman Catholic Church they too preach another gospel like Rome does. They are cursed according to Galatians 1:6-9
@AnHonestChristian Infant baptism is not Biblical. Read Acts 8:36-38. Baptism is ONLY for those who have repented and believed on Jesus Christ. Infants can neither repent nor believ on Jesus. @JesusNonEnviromental False men of God?? Oh, you are the Judge, huh? And what faith are you of? Are you a believer in Christ? Are you another angry Catholic or one of Harold Camping's nuts? Aetheist? Or a holier-than-thou? How dare you utter a lie you cannot support. Learn the facts. It is not the man who saves--it is the Water and the Word of God!! At least look into something before you go off on it, Mr. Big Stuff. Saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus! Not by your own works! Got it?!!
@JesusNonEnviromental If you read Luther's teaching on baptism, you'd get a clearer picture.I believe in baptism.Period! You call it a mockery--Really? The Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod is the most fiercely Bible-believing church I've ever been to--and I've been2 so many! I believe faith can be worked in a child's heart at baptism. I have seen it at work in my life. I doNOT remember a time I did not believe in Christ as my Savior. And I give Him thanks for His love and mercy!1day we will see.
They must be saved by Jesus. That is without a doubt what is written. And without a doubt the Scripture means that all mankind from Adam on is under the rule of sin and death. But all can be redeemed in Christ. In Luke 18:16, the children needed to come to Jesus to become partakers in the kingdom of God. Jesus did not say, "Let them play in peace. They are already blessed." No one has a greater claim to the kingdom than the newly baptized infant, whom Jesus welcomes with loving arms.
Faith that accompanies Salvation is an unwavering confidence and trust in the Blood atonement on Calvary for your sins and mine and Christs bodily resurrection so the "object' of our faith is what defines it from other "Faiths". If your faith is defined by ceremony or sacraments then its a lesser faith and has cleverly changed the object of your faith to your own works of obedience as the confidence of your salvation. If an infant can be saved with baptism then isn't the Gospel a lie
You said, "made" to be partakers of the Salvation of Christ, Can you make a new heart?, can you regenerate the dead spirit of a child? Where in scripture can we make people partakers because I will gladly make every single person partakers. Your super baptism is nothing new, the Mormons practice it as well as the Catholics and both are apostate. Search the Word of God to validate your statements unless you have your own authority. Trust in Gods grace for your children and not in ceremony
Teaching a False Gospel. He takes one scripture from the Gospels which clearly states, Let the little children "come" unto me, this is clearly not speaking of infants. These false men of God pretend to stand in the place of Jesus Christ as the Redeemer of infants and declare them saved by making a mark on their foreheads and forgiving their sins with a pale of water. These parents are accountable as well because they do not search the scriptures but play along with the mockery
@JesusNonEnviromental Can children be saved? On that, I'm sure we're agreed. Are children prepared to enter the kingdom of God just as they are, or must they, too, be made partakers of the salvation of Christ? None are righteous, and all are included under the judgement. The sinful corruption about which I am talking about is also the natural state of children. Sad, but true. Thank God for our baptisms, which are not silly professions of faith, but the seed of faith planted in our hearts.
Very Protestant low Lutheran baptism unlike what is normally observed in Lutheran parishes. Wisconsin Synod is the least catholic synod in American Lutheranism.
I know I'm getting in on this after the fact . . . when a Lutheran (LCMS) baby is baptized the sponsors and parents promise to lead the child in God's way. When the child is of the "age of consent" he is schooled in the beliefs of our Church. At the end of this course (usually two years) the person CONFIRMS his faith in the Lord. It has nothing to do with receiving. The assumption is if they are confirming their beliefs, receiving has already happened.
Confirmation is both education (usually one year where I come from) about the christian faith and a certain ceremony in which the confirmee confirms the baptism (that is why they are dressed in white gowns) and that they want to live as christians. There is laying of hand and intercessions: Let the good Holy Ghost of the Lord be with you always. You can see it in my video:

About the confirmation: read Luke 12:12, Acts 1:8, John 16:13, and finally Acts 2:1-4. In the confirmation you do indeed receive the Holy Ghost. It is true that the Pentecost is there already on the cross when Jesus gives his Spirit: John 19:30.
I was baptized and raised a WELS Lutheran. It's not about the ritual, it's about becoming one of God's Children and having the Holy Spirit enter you at baptism.
MrBiblia, Bishop Giertz was not pietist, my opinion is that there was no overemphasis of anything.
Something that is strange in this ritual is that the pastor is not making the small sign of the cross three times (forhead, mouth and heart) but one time. Exorcism and baptismal candles is of course lutheran....or catholic in the broad sense. Christianus mihi nomen est, catholicus cognomen.
A baptismal candle is given to the parents at the ceremony as a reminder of the baptism and the words of Jesus in John 8:12. The meaning is: I am the light of life, if you follow me you will not wander around in the dark but have the light of life.
If u wish to see white garments and baptismal candles watch a Catholics baptism. And the Exorcism part well. before baptism we call it The Right of The Elect. its like an exorcism.... its not really one but kind of like one..
That wasnt ment to come off rude.. I was just saying... and no i havent read a Lutheran baptism.... Thats how i came across this video. To see what it looks like. And to have a better insight on it...
OK, no problem. Sometimes one gets the wrong impression through blogs.
Traditional Lutheranism is very much so Roman Catholic. There have been other movements in the Lutheran Church that has been "reactionary" in the sense of dispensing of "Romish" rites... the pendulum is swinging back, and many Lutheran Pastors/districts are reclaiming their catholic roots... the LCMS just re-adopted the "Luther Baptismal rite" which includes an exorcism. Anointing is also proper...
haha...yup, and then we have the many differences from one parish to another! Lutherans DO NOT have one united tradition- I am one that believes in a mix of ancient and modern.
I read the novel "Hammer of God" in Seminary- and I HATED its overemphasis against the notion of personal conversion- which in some of our circles its accused of "Pietism."
Lutheran Baptism starts at child and gets confirmed / fulfilled in the "confirmation". So though it is a tradition it has the meaning that, the parents, god parents and the church pledge before God, that they will lead/grow the kid in His ways
So, are you saying here that after this, when the child grows up, they do not need to receive Jesus as Lord and Saviour. To forgive their sins because it was already done when they were baptised as babies?
@Subtitledworship The Christian life involves repentance and the forgiveness of sins. Also, there is such a thing as apostasy (or abandoning the faith). However, as baptism is a means of grace, baptized infants do receive the forgiveness of sins by grace alone through faith alone in Christ's work alone.
@neacej1 "However, as baptism is a means of grace, baptized infants do receive the forgiveness of sins by grace alone through faith alone in Christ's work alone." This IS NOT in the Bible. The doctrine of man.
Any infant that dies before an age where they know right from wrong, has forgiveness, as they truly are innocent.
Ephesians 4:4 [There is] one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who [is] above all, and through all, and in you all.

Well Cathoilcs and Lutherans are so much a like. With some things. But there some things that are different. Soo its all good...

haha...yup, and then we have the many differences from one parish to another! Lutherans DO NOT have one united tradition- I am one that believes in a mix of ancient and modern.

About Lutheran view of baptism, read the novel Hammer of God by Bo Giertz

Let me know.

@Subtitledworship Infants aren't innocent.
