On top of what Bustagrind said, you can solo up to level 80 if you wanted. You are not forced to group after Tortage (lvl 20).

Yeah you can go in an inn and sleep - changes it from day to night as long as you're in Tortage (the area for the first 20 levels). It's meant to let you get comfortable with the game mechanics alone if you want to. It goes full multiplayer without options after L20.
