thanks for the vid! I just flashed mine this morning (been putting it off a while). Was super nervous, but the vid was easy to follow, and instilled a sense of confidence.
After i flash it with RC mix 3d rom, then it reboots, but the reboot time is longer( left it thru the night till morning) but still in the HTC logo. is that normal? or should i wait longer?
its giving me an error when i try to back up the phone, saying sd card marker not found, error verifying extended command, error processing rom manager script. any suggestions?
I've been using ROM Manager and when I try to reboot or flash clockwordmod recovery and it just says "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!" Please help .
@TheRandyOwusu Depending on where you download the ROM it should be in the zip file. XDAdevelopers forum has all kinds of roms that have everything you need on 1 page.
Thanks for your videos! When I first heard about this I was so confused and scared. But you made it easy! Thanks! By the way, is the what's the difference between leedroid's rom and cyanogenmod 7?
@billybobjho it is not 100% required, but you can run into complications from not using the full wipe because the new Rom will more than likely need to replace certain files on your phone to work, and if it can't replace those files, it may not operate correctly.
@DominikThaProdigy23 The kernel will be dependent on the Rom that you choose. If you are not changing roms, then you don't need a different kernel. Some roms use the existing kernel.
@foxtonn If there is a kernal file, yes apply that after you install the rom. The easiest way to install the kernel is using Rom Manager and reboot into recovery, and select the kernel file.
@foxtonn some roms require a kernel file to be install after the rom. Some roms include the kernel in the rom itself so you don't have to install a second file.
i used the full wipe out then i realized i dont have the rom on sd card and i cant use zip so i rebooted and my screen is stucked on HTC screen what do i do now?
@foxtonn Find another way of putting the rom on the SD card. Go into hboot by holding the volume down + power button and select, i believe recovery and select the rom that you put on the SD card.
@kyleandrewgibson Anytime you are flashing a DIFFERENT rom, yes you need to do the Full Wipe. If you are flashing nightlies, or an update to the rom you are currently using then no.
Yes, most rom have specific kernels that go with them. But also most roms now are packaged WITH the kernels they need. Just do your research to make sure about the kernels.
im so stupid, i didnt download a rom and full wiped it and powered off without loading a custom rom, now its stuck at the white htc loading screen should i wait or should you suggest something? please reply :(
@CengizThePro okay, the only thing I can think of is to find another way to put a rom on your SD card (take the SD card out of your phone) then hold volume down + the power button. It should take you into hboot, where you can choose to do a recovery and select the rom from your sd card. go to the xda website (google it) and they can help you out better than I can
@CengizThePro just do what he said and let it do the update like it did when you rooted it...i got a messed up rom and that happened to me and thats what i did

@MyNameIsJiggy Yes, it is a good idea to do a full wipe with each *new* rom. if you are updating a current rom, you don't have to. Most roms now the kernals and any patches are included with them. You just have to check and see. But no roms don't have to have other kernals.
The root worked perfectly thanks for the guide. The only problem I have is, when I restart my phone it always gets stuck at the HTC boot screen. I've had to re-flash the rom twice already. Is there a way to fix this?
@YungCutty You may need to try a different rom. But on a side note, usually the first time you flash a rom, it takes a LONG time to boot up for the first boot. Usually more than 10 minutes. So try it again, and just let it sit there and time it. If nothing happens for 15+ minutes, then I would try a different rom. Make sure you do the full wipe each time you change roms too.
Hi I rooted my phone using your video. After rooting i downloaded the cynogen rom. Now its frozen and the cynogen logo just keep coming up on the screen..How do I fix this? Please help
Hi I rooted my phone using your video. After rooting i downloaded the cynogen rom. Now its frozen and the cynogen logo just keep coming up on the screen..How do I fix this? Please help
Alright so I am freaking out, I HAVE to get this fixed. I followed all instructions on first video and successfully rooted my inspire, then i was following this video but i wanted to install cyanogenmod 7 instead of lee droid, so I downloaded a zip from the mirror, and then i went and used the 1.3 full wipe. Well the mod did not work once i wiped the phone and tried to install, so i went and got the proper zip and restarted the phone. Now it just sits at the screen that says HTC. What do I do?
So what happens when you don't know you are supposed to download the rom before you get going and now you are stuck on the "HTC" screen and the power + vol down hboot isn't working?
Hey Zonderion. Great videos. I just had a question however. I decided I'd flash my Inspire 4g exactly as you do in this video (as I did with your rooting process and S-Off procedure in your other video as well) to the same ROM. My question was whether or not you have to have Radio S-Off as well or just the Root and S-Off as you showed in the other video? Thanks in advance for your help!
I have a problem with my phone, my phone doesnt seem to start up anymore. It kept showing cyanogen going around and around again. What can i do to fix this?
I appreciate the videos, it helped alot and are the best Ive seen!.... I do have a question. I used the root method and flashed the newest leeroid 3.0 rom, but I guess Ive had a bit of confusion on flashing the recommended radio as well, I was wondering if you could help me with this? Ive seen about 30 different forums with 30 different things ways and requirements...
@mentyson This process only gives you RADIO S-OFF. In order to flash radios, you need to have ENG S-OFF. It's a little more complicated, and there is a much HIGHER risk of bricking your phone trying to get ENG S-OFF and flashing a new radio. Check first to make sure that you HAVE to have a new radio to use the rom. With the phone being so new, there may not even be any new radios for the Inspire. I don't recommend flashing a radio not designed to work with the inspire.
thanks for the vid! I just flashed mine this morning (been putting it off a while). Was super nervous, but the vid was easy to follow, and instilled a sense of confidence.

@lookerup Not quite. Roms will be the ones that need specific kernels. Find the rom you want, and usually there will be a kernal to go along with it.

H4ZEC3 7 months ago
@Zonderion you should probably be more clear about having the rom on your sd before wiping cause i did the same exact thing as @CengizThePro
to fix:
take the sd out of the inspire,
mount to your computer (i used an old blackberry),
drag in a new rom (i used MIUI),
put the card back into the inspire,
boot into HBOOT (Power& VOL down) (if your stuck at htc screen take battery out),
do a recovery with the new rom

if you cant scroll up/down in HBOOT, then just click the power button, apply the pd98img update, and you will have sense again
