  • i just love her music. she sings about life, our life,,, my life,,, my mistakes, my faults . I have lerant a lot from them..

  • This Dame is of the highest qualities in her line ! A unique singer of our times. Cant ever gotget her voice nor personality. Terrific !

  • Marvelous!

  • Sounds ten thousands times better thej aznavour version.sorry.

  • @adiprenne2006 Totally agree

  • This song is from Charles Aznavour tital Hier encore, french original version. Not a song from any english or so artists..... please... ;)

  • One of Dame Shirley's best songs, and this is a wonderful video. Love it.

  • She has good voice but has no idea how to sing ...

  • @culturacolombia seems like she showed it here to me. She isn't trying to merely "sing", she is talking on purpose, telling the story of the song, because that is the type of song it is to her. The lyrics are among the deepest she's ever sung, and she chose to show them off. You may not like this choice, and that is your prerogative, but to say she cannot sing and interpret because of that is jumping the gun.

  • @Rosannasfriend I find that Charles Aznavour interprets this song in a uniquely manner . @ 2.25 she is just screaming . It may be just this song but she is having problems with her breathing that is why her voice has no depth but a disturbing desperate high tone .

  • @culturacolombia

If you can't understand her singing and this song, you'd better listen to Justin Bieber.

  • @syrebecca669 She is a star watch her hands and actions she pulls the feeling of a note to its limit, Knocks me out, nooooo -one else can do what Shirley does to any composition she undertakes, sublime is a small definition of perfection, watch and learn.

  • @syrebecca669 If you can't understand her , listen to Charles Aznavour . And I see that you have good taste in music .

  • @culturacolombia

By the way, post one song by you on youtube and let's see your idea of how to sing.

  • @karayelkenci Bende seviyorum bu sarkiyi!

  • @Rosannasfriend I love DSB and I always enjoy watching this song on Youtube because she is such a charismatic performer. But if I wanted to hear this song on the radio or on my turntable, this would not be the version. I too prefer a more mournful and reflective rendition. This particular performance was in 1972 when she was still young and vivacious so maybe if she sings this now, she would give the gravitas it needs?

  • amazing...

    بغرور وكبرياء..

وكل لهب أشعلته خبا على الفور..

  • and morons think amy winehouse was a good singer.

  • a powerful hand gesture @ 4:20-28.... very beautiful... :D

  • Dame Shirley Bassey is the world greatest performer. She sang from her heart and soul. I seen Shirley's live concert by four times. She was electrifying and each time she brought the audience on their feet. Just magic!!

  • @vargab1 sorry who ever you are, no matter what song she sings .......damn good ! what you said, is like everything in this world,it is a opinion!!!

  • @vargab1 What a friggin twit. Andy Williams and Dusty Springfield??? Pull your head out.

  • @vargab1 YOU dont anderstand any things about art

  • @vargab1 I wouldn't go that far - but would agree that Dusty's version is much more subtle and nuanced. Bassey has a strong voice and is a dynamic performer but her phrasing is horribly affected. The way she runs the words together destroys any pathos. She's always drawing attention to herself, it's always look at me, look at me, look at me, and the song suffers. Her pitching is also flat at times. So, no, this is not a great performance by any means.

  • @Nicklas4500 I just love this lady BUT, you are so right in this critique. I just didn't like it, for the precise reasons you stated. Conversely, I just love her version of "How do you keep the music playing"

  • @Nicklas4500

Thank you. Finally, an honest assessment of a DSB performance. There's no denying this woman has a powerful set of pipes, & she can sing just about anything. But, you hit the nail on the head - her phrasing is just as you stated, affected, which destroys the mood of the song. This song requires a contemplative & reflective approach to the lyric and melody. DSB over sings this & as you stated, the song suffers. Aznavour's versions, in French or English, are both, spot on.

  • @twowaystreet101 well, the honest truth for me as someone who never heard the song from anyone else is that she does indeed still have pathos and anguish and feeling, and I still feel all that despite of, and maybe even because of , her phrasing. Those who say this are not being "dishonest", they just "disagree" with you.

  • @Rosannasfriend Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Let's just say we agree to disagree :). You said you've never heard the song by any other singer - please check out Charles Aznavour's versions (English or French). Aznavour wrote the song, & as the composer, he conveys the meaning of his lyrics as he intended. Other covers of this song, generally stay pretty close to Aznavours renditions. For me, the reflective nature of the song is lost through DSB's vocal &arrangement. All the best.

  • @Nicklas4500 pitching can be flat because she talks certain lyrics...

  • I love her.

I agree, she is the only diva ever, it's so true...who else sings from the soul.

She gives good drama, love her forever.

I saw her once in New York, would pay anything to see her again.

  • I loved u when I lived in my homeland Wales,,, and I still love u now I am half a world away,,, u simply are the only diva ever. who else sings from the soul?? may u entertain for ever,,

  • i like her style a very sexy and classy lady

  • absolutely amazing

  • I can't believe at the end she gets given only ONE crappy rose. She deserves at least a few dozen bouquets!!!!!

  • For me Shirley has always outdone herself with this song...Outstanding!

  • took me back to past and my memories...

  • Lovely song by Charles Aznavour!
