You'll notice that I said the truth is "often" in the middle. In this case I'd agree with you. The truth was to the right. Were it not for the fact that Freddie and Fannie broadcasted their willingness to buy loans that allowed homeowners to leverage up to 60% of their monthy income on a mortgage, the trickle up recession wouldn't have taken root. Private lending firms would never have made such horrible loans if the GSEs weren't eager to buy them. McCain made a mistake not pounding the fact.

Students have almost no ability to pay anything when they get those loans, and increasingly, they have little ability to pay when they graduate. Underwriters never look under the hood at the student. Never ask, is this person likely to graduate, likely to pay. Nothing. That cheap credit is leading to an ed bubble which will burst. When it does, many colleges will close or cease growing.

Government was complicitous in the artificial pressures put on the housing market and things fell apart. A significant portion of that was ushered in under the guise of benevolence by Sen. No it's even beyond that. When a business is taxed, it doesn't pay those taxes. The consumer pays the taxes.

In other words, raise taxes on a business, and they must charge more for their products. Or lay someone off.

Sorry, I think you misinterpreted my comment. I'm saying that businesses survive by making money. And if that money is taxed, the business must pay those taxes somehow. And if Obama increases the taxes on a business (large or small) that business, if it wants to stay in business, must either charge more, or increase the workload per employee (via longer/harder hours or laying people off). Reread my original comment in that light. :)
