  • Cidade de Deus, a bloody good film that is too.

  • Hello Mr. Wrona. Do you use QWERTY, raditional Dvorak, or a modified Dvorak to type?

  • @TetsuoK QWERTY

  • @arenasnow Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I tried Dvorak for a long stint during highschool and managed about a 10% increase, but after reading a bit on your bio page, i realize i am in a similar boat; it doesn't matter where the "home row" is, because no key is pressed always with the same finger. I want to get within 20% of your speeds. is there an endurance website you would recommend practice on? (the more difficult, the better). I am currently @ 130wpm on typrx.

  • @TetsuoK If you're looking for endurance typing tests, check out hi-games . net.

  • @arenasnow Is there an endurance website you would recommend for practicing the 50 minute tests?

  • @TetsuoK That is the site; hi-games . net. Most other sites do not offer serious endurance testing. Go to hi-games . net / typing-test , 3000 / (with the spaces removed).

  • @arenasnow Thank you so much for your swift Correspondance. One last question. With your use of the daskeyboard product (professional, right?), do you notice a better transition between fluidity that otherwise would result as missed letters or space bars on other keyboards? I can't, for certain, tell if it is my own errors, or my acer keyboard not tracking what I am typing properly. Thank you, again.

  • @TetsuoK I'm using a Das Keyboard Professional. I've never used an Acer. I've only used either Logitechs or Dases recently. I don't really think I'm more typo-prone on either the Logitech or the Das. However, I haven't typed on an Acer so I probably can't answer that.

  • Dude, you type faster than I can read :))

  • I went to your website after seeing you on Typeracer and wanted to share that I'm a big racing fan as well.

  • Other guys are like "Damn this ass hole must be on Steriods "

  • Lol i bet the guy in second place at 119 was like....dayuuuuuuum

  • Sean is the best one typer...

  • Salutations Sean, I admire your speed for typing -it seems inhumane- and I became really inspired after seeing this video. I type around 75-80 wpm average on typeracer, but can get faster speeds when typing from my head. I don't have much accuracy which keeps me back; do you have any tips on how to improve my typing speed and accuracy? If so, please share. Thanks :D

  • @Ibfinity HEhehehehe .. The Same Problem With Me Here , Bro .. My Accuracy Average Is Kinda 93% .. Once I Got 96% Accuracy I Reached From 87 WPM At Best Race To 94 WPM .. That Means Each 3% = 7 Words For Me .. And That's Not A Little , BTW !! =P !

  • @AladdinEsamAbdo Nice. I think my accuracy is a bit worse than yours. Fortunately, out of nowhere recently my speed/accuracy jumped, and now I'm averaging between 80 and 90 wpm. xD !

  • Not bad ;)

  • I try to type super fast but when I do I miss alot of the keys but when I go medium im all good any help I really need help. D:

  • @ThePsychoSun what's your average and top speed ??

  • Sean, do you use the QWERTY layout?

I have a bad right ring finger, after some use if I don't pop it it hangs too low.

I tend to shift that finger when certain words come up.

Any more tips for typing, please? I used to use movements for words that I could use all my fingers to hit at once. I can sprint quite well in relation to my long distance typing.

    Thanks :)

593 kpm is the best I've done. 2 min english.. Typera Sarek

  • @terry455

I now know you use qwerty.

  • Wow. I thought I was fast..

  • Hi Sean. Have you ever heard somebody talking about metronomes when typing? I'm saying this cause I had a conversation with a guy who suggested me to use a metronome. Does it make sense to you? Looks like using a metronome may improve accuracy and pace, and therefore speed?

I would appreciate any point of view. I must say that it's a bit disappointing the lack of those kind of competitions in Spain, typing it's a bit unknown, and a bit, let's say 'ignored'.

    Thanks in advance

  • @Vincentrubio From my experience, attempting to structure the rhythm of your typing does not really help much with speed. I do not type at a uniform rhythm. I type simpler words faster and take more time with harder words. Doing it your way, you'd be going too slow on shorter words in my opinion, although it probably would be more accurate and better on your hands. I think you'd just be trading speed for accuracy with no other change...

  • @Vincentrubio Typing is also not a very big pursuit in the United States either. I've honestly gotten more attention from people in Japan, Vietnam, India, and the Middle East than from my own country. In the international typing contests, Jelani Nelson, Dan Chen, and I are the only three Americans who have really competed in any big way. People from the Czech Republic, Turkey, Romania, Brazil, and India seem to in general be more obsessed than those from other countries...

  • @Vincentrubio, I have set a metronome at the equivalent of 600 keys/beats per minute. I did this because I was having trouble at this speed. Anyway specific to your question, what I learned from this is that I should avoid all pauses between words and all pauses between letters, and all slowdowns from hitting the space bar - just hit it then the next key. This was my problem.

  • wow the best i got was 60wpm while my average is like 52wpm

    :(

  • @arenasnow have you ever lost in a competition? LOL I bet you are typing fast right now!

Do you type your fastest in everyday life?

  • @trooper101234 Yes, Guilherme Sandrini of Brazil beat me in the 2010 TypingZone championship because that is predominantly based on how one does at short texts, and he's a better sprinter than I am. I also finished 3rd on the 2010 Intersteno multilingual typing competition, primarily because Milos Cernilovsky of the Czech Republic is better than I am at Eastern European languages; I won in 2011 though. I type faster in games than real life; in reality you have to think about what you're writing.

  • i type with about 6-8 fingers because i dont really like to use my thumb or my pinky finger. my average word count it around 40-65 with apostrophys, and about 60-85 without apostrophys.

  • how could you type so fast?

  • @undefined1999 I started really young using a DOS typing application when I was three...

  • @arenasnow what is dos can you tell me what that is i want to try it

  • @austinf47 DOS was a text-based operating system on personal computers in the '80s and early '90s that was the system Windows was built on, sort of like the relationship between Unix and Linux. DOS has not been used since 1995 as Windows 95 rendered it obsolete. I learned to type on the DOS program CPT Personal Touch-Typing but I wouldn't recommend looking for it since there are so many better typing applications online now...

  • I can type over a 100+ wpm when accuracy goes right for me; however, accuracy is my problem. I seem to always switch letters around and accidentally press two keys at once. If I slowed down for a while to work with accuracy, would it eventually improve? I know it sounds like a stupid question, but I want to reach my full potential and it's pretty frustrating when I type "tpye" instead of "type".

  • @canadia7x Yes, "slowing down to go faster" is usually effective at increasing your average. If you want to maximize your peak speed, you have to go for broke on typos and hope to get lucky on accuracy, but if your goal is simply to improve your average, improving accuracy is the way to do it.

  • are you using a DVORAK or QWERTY keyboard?

  • @LardyMcTubster QWERTY. I've never used Dvorak or Colemak in my life and don't even have the layouts memorized for either of those.

  • @arenasnow do you use the home row keys?

  • @austinf47 For the most part, yes, but I have noticed that my typing style is different than a lot of other people's as I don't necessarily type the same letter with the same finger each time. It depends on the location of the other letters in the word. I tend to use whichever finger is most convenient/closest sometimes even if it isn't the generally accepted finger for that particular key.

  • @itsLieber Yes.

  • ok i went and took a test online. i CHICKEN peck the keys and have to look at the keyboard to type. and i type at 39 WPM without error. I know i suck :)

  • I bet David and Elizabeth, despite being bot racers, were still probably angered by how much they lost by.

  • Sean, I average about 100WPM using three or four fingers, If I learnt to type properly how long would it take before I could get back to that speed? And could I reach new speeds/higher accuracy?

  • @k0kidd Typing with 8-9 fingers is always better than typing with 3-4, and should be faster and more accurate generally, although it would probably take six months or so to get up there again, depending on how often you type.

  • @k0kidd lol if its not broken why fix it =P

  • im 12 and I get between 60-70 WPM..is that good for my age?

  • @MusicsGreatest I think that's fairly solid. Around then I was probably only around 110-120 and I think you're already above average for your age.

  • @arenasnow what is avarage for my age... i have 14...and i am between 80-90 wpm?

  • @MrOctobarthe18th I couldn't say honestly. I'd guess that's definitely above average but I'd also guess that 14 year olds now average much higher typing speeds than 14 year olds when I was 14, since computer use now is far more widespread than it was in 1999. If I were to guess, I'd say 50 wpm is average for your age.

  • @arenasnow Mate, how do you like the Daskeyboard you use? I was thinking of whether or not to order one and who better to ask about it's performance than one of the fastest typists in the world, right?

  • @sonic371 Sorry, I missed this. It's slightly faster and smoother than most keyboards you could buy in an office supply store. Whether that's worth the difference of $100 versus $50 is your call, since the difference in speed between a $50 Logitech keyboard and that would probably be less than 10 wpm.

  • I got 26 wpm....

  • mine is like 42 ..........

  • Wow.

    I'm sad.

Im 11 and my best is 100 wpm >.<

  • WHooooooo.. Ohhhh. what car u r using Ferari or Lumberghini

  • whoa... it;s really fast...

  • Amazing! I'm 12, and the best I did was only 113 WPM -.-

  • im 11 and im at 60 WPM

  • lol watching you makes me feel like a snail...i just started but my my best is 53...lol

  • My high score was 114... But I'm thirteen...

Ahha but that's not that great of an excuse of why mine isn't very high Ahhaha.. heh..

But your really freakin fast, dude.

  • That's a fast car :D

  • Which keyboard Layout are you using QWERTY, Dovark, etc? and how to you go for the backspace key, with your ring fingers as I do or with the small finger? Seeing you typing at 212 WPM is crazy. You've reached the top speed of Barbara Blackburn, and probably you could become the next world record holder, but you should maintain typing for 150 wpm for 50 minutes , which is difficult if you use QWerty layout because it exhaust the fingers :)

  • He's really fast.

  • I'm no where close to that type of speed. My best is 107 words per minute. What keyboard layout does Sean Wrona use? That, I'm curious about. And on the means of improving typing speed, I'm certain you want to have a very sophisticated system.

  • Sean you are a typing maniac!!!! .. ChimChim

  • Unbelievable! Are you also a very smart man?

  • Sean, I am a huge fan of yours!

You inspire me to try to type faster.

But unfortunately my typing speed is just 40wpm no matter how hard i try to type :(

Can you pls suggest something to help improve my speed?.

    Thank you.

  • @saintforpeaceandlove just keep practising dude. I remember I took a screenshot every time I broke a record of mine. After 2 years I checked that folder I seen 65 wpm as my first record and now I have 119 wpm

  • @saintforpeaceandlove Perfect practice makes perfect. Let you practice more and more in the appropriate way.

  • Hmm... I just realized that your nickname "arenasnow" is an anagram from "sean wrona" ,,,, yeah, good.

  • I'm only 13 and my fastest is 107 wpm Average 95 wpm And i think that is quite good for a small boy like me lolx.

  • @mrkuttypandi Mines 114 and I'm the same age as youu..

  • You should ask for a sponsorship deal from a keyboard manufacturer

  • The most important question that has not been asked: What is the keyboard you use at home?

  • @katalysis I'm using the Das Keyboard I won in the Ultimate Typing Championship semifinals...

  • @arenasnow Great news. I have that one in transit to me right now! You should show Das this conversation and ask them to pay you endorsement dividends.

  • Another important question. What keyboard were you using before you won the Das Keyboard in the Ultimate Typing Championship semifinals...???

  • damn your fast, my fastest is like 150wpm and my average is 125wpm :( thats still pretty fast right

  • @loverofrunescape32 A 125 wpm average isn't that far off from the top 100 on TypeRacer and you'd definitely be in the top percent there. You're good enough for the real world...

  • @loverofrunescape32 A 125 wpm average isn't that far off from the top 100 on TypeRacer and you'd definitely be in the top percent there. You're good enough for the real world...

  • I have to ask you this : You used "CamStudio" to record this. What are the settings concering video settings and audio settings that you have modified ? Cause I know that yo must edith the standard settings at CamStudio, in order to record a video as it should be recorded, in a good quality. But I don't know what are those settings...

  • @ralax3 I missed this. I basically used whatever the default settings were, and it was fine.

  • I see...

  • so funny, just registered on typeracer, and saw your name comming up on the top-lists. then i googled you without thinking there would come up anything, but here you are, the proof that there is no cheating involved (i hope ;-)) greats from germany!

  • My question is, Why are you using windows?

  • @CuteChildishTRex Laziness. Also, I share my computer with my mom and she would be none too pleased if I attempted to force her to learn Linux. I really am more of a dabbler than a real cutting-edge programmer anyway, despite what most people seem to think... Statistics are my true passion.

  • I could get up to around 80wpm using peck and hunt with 1 finger on my left, 2 and a thumb on my right and I found that the brain automatically worked out which combinations to use.

I'm learning to touch type now with my speed currently at 50 wpm. Like everything in life it's down to practise.

  • Congratulations!

What kind of keyboards had you been using, before you won the championship?

And typing on what keyboard was the fastest runs in typeracer?

    Thanks a lot.

  • @Dynamitarian Before I entered the contest, I used some generic $20 keyboard I bought at Staples. It probably wasn't some brand-name. The Das Keyboard is a bit faster, but not that much; like I previously said here, I gained more by switching to Google Chrome.

  • @arenasnow what do you mean by "gain more by switching to G Chrome ?" How did that helped you to type faster ?

  • @ralax3 It doesn't help you type faster but it does seem to register faster speeds than other browsers do, if you are using an online typing application like TypeRacer, perhaps because Chrome has better support for Java applets. I don't know why, but scores do register as higher in Chrome than in Firefox.

  • A question, if I may: do you use your little finger (pinky) or your ring finger to press the 'p' and backspace?

  • @spellbound4565 I do not always use the same finger for each character every time. A lot depends on the specific word itself, but usually I use the ring finger for both of those, and usually I only use my pinky finger for the punctuation marks on the right side of the keyboard: period, colon, apostrophe, semicolon, question mark, etc... I seldom use my left pinky for anything at all, as I use my right thumb for the space bar.

  • @arenasnow You mean left thumb? I think you will need your left pinky for the QAZ?

  • So I was doing some calculations. That looks like it's about 59-60 words, so a 60wpm typer would do that passage in about a minute, a 120 wpm typer which I'm approaching would do it in about 30 seconds... You did it in 18 seconds. So someone typing 180 wpm would type it in 15 seconds. So that passage must count as a lot more words than 60... hmm.

  • @chimera15 TypeRacer defines a word as five characters; I do know that. That is the most common way to calculate wpm in the US, but on European sites such as Zone Dactylo/Typing Zone, 6 characters = 1 word. 212 wpm = 3.533 wps, so in 18 seconds, I typed 3.533*18 = 63.6 5-letter character strings, so really it's not far off from the 60 words you guessed. TypeRacer is the site I use mostly; I used it more than TyprX to prepare for the main event. I currently use the Das Keyboard I won.

  • I really like this site more than typrx, the ability to see people's stats and everything, and a record of your own stats for each test is really amazing.

  • Nice man, surprisingly that doesn't appear that much faster than me, at least on typrx. I wonder if there's something like lag taking time off my real time on typrx. Is this a newer site?

  • @chimera15 No. TypeRacer is older than TyprX and was the first of the major type-racing sites. My record on this site is 222, not 212, which is second to Jelani Nelson's record of 232. TypeRacer peak speeds for everyone tend to be a bit higher than TyprX speeds, actually. I think the two sites may define wpm differently. Some sites use 5 characters = 1 word, some sites use 6 characters = 1 word, some sites use 1 word = 1 word. This naturally leads to different results.

  • @arenasnow Ah interesting, thanks for the info. Really impressive man. I just tried this one and got around 90wpm for it for my first time. Amazing you started at 170. lol Yer like twice the speed I am at base times. What's your secret? I think I'm about maxed out. lol

  • @chimera15 I used some old DOS touch-typing app when I was three and bored a lot and got really good, really young (I reached 100 wpm when I was 10). So it's not something I can really teach because it's been so long ago I don't remember how I learned. Some tips though: Always focus on the next word while typing the current word. Sometimes if you slow down, you'll make fewer typos which will increase your speed. Use Google Chrome; I achieve my fastest speeds on every game with that browser.

  • @arenasnow Ah thanks for the info about Google Chrome, that was one of the things I experimented with with typrx when I was trying to get to the competition, only got to 130 wpm or so on that site though. lol I'll switch to that browser.

  • @chimera15 What type of keyboard do you usually use?

  • impressive =D

  • Sean, slow-down a little bit. You'll break your Das Keyboard, and what will you do then? :-)

  • Its just amazing !
