  • is this 4wd?

  • 6 inline?

  • That jeep is so fresh. Love that new paint

  • @thomson486 Yah, But they don't do it that often enough to bug me. Also, I'll never be cutting up the fenders to give it more clearance, I hate the look the way they look with the fenders all cut out.

  • @ 2:19 I see the milti-shot kick in and what it does for this Video is make it stand-out from the rest in a way that cant be denied. A very good video, sound-track is as worn as my Cooper Discovery's...but that's another story al together. Nice work and thanks for sharing. I sure do miss my '88. tokie out.

  • @tcc187620 Yah, I know. When I made the video, the song had just come out...

  • Sweet dude!

  • what is the name of the background song?

  • @aliksdralks

    AC/DC - Rock N Roll Train

  • hey where did you get that front bumper? I am looking for one just like that.

  • @wakkawakkamothafakka

JCR Offroad - Its the Stage 4 XJ Model.

  • bro great truck i wana do the same someday with my dad. . . but i love your jeep make an update plzzzz

also i wana buy this video on my ipod lol so i can show my dad him

  • @richnjeanie Why buy it when you can see it for free here?

  • @FiveHundredMJ cuz this is my laptop nd my dad lives in nc nd i live in mass nd he doesnt have internet

  • bro great truck i wana do the same someday with my dad. . . but i love your jeep make an update plzzzz

  • I dont know why, But I had so much fun watching this video!. haha!, You did wonders with rebuilding the jeep! Looks awesome

  • @Mcguyber199 Thanks!

  • The Jeep is still holding its own. Within the last year its undergone a few changes, but nothing noteworthy. I'm collecting parts for the next stage of the build, but who knows when it will happen. Rebuilding both axles, installing lockers and re-gear to 4.55.

Now that I've graduated college and am out in the real world, its hard to set the money aside for the Jeep anymore. Guess it will just take longer to build it from here on out. Main thing is that it still is sitting outside my house...

  • Great Job on the MJ!!!!!

  • @jeepin4on4 Thanks Much.

  • Sweet rig! You did a fantastic job! I hope I can pretty mine up somewhere close to this.

Love the footage of you towing out the Blazer... Ha!

  • @trivialbingo The Blazer is a friends from college. He has done quite a bit to it since we shot that video.

  • Except Jeep is American! Toyota isn't. And that is extremely cool that you have done all that to it! Cool Comanche!

  • a buddy of mine works in a shop near me and the owner has a Jeep Comanche that has over 200,000 miles on it and it still runs.......just not like new lol

  • looks almost identical in body style (minus the head lights) to my 1981 toyota 22R

  • What lift do you have and what size tires are you running

  • Very nice 0lllllll0

  • I keep watching this video wishing I had the skills. I have an 88 Commanche Pioneer in pristine condition, my father has kept it in his garage for years. I think the bed is about a foot longer though. Wish I could find a decent place in STL to do that sort of work and put a lift on it.

  • I love this video, reminds me of my comanche. I had a 91 comanche that I built up similar to yours, but i sold it last month. Sad day, but an awesome, incredibly reliable truck. Did you still have yours? if so made more vids!!!!

  • what kinda paint you use?

  • beautiful comanche

  • i've got a 95 jeep sahara

i got a friend with an 85 comanche

  • @Kalkas53

Impossible. Comanches were only made from '86-'92

    :D

  • @FiveHundredMJ what about the 1985 production?

build date is 1985, but technically falls under the 1986 classification.

  • @Dlepey Correct.

  • @Kalkas53 then i think it is an 86 it's been a while since i talked to him about it

  • where did you get that bumper??!??!?!

  • @jmrob333

The front bumper came from JCR Offroad, it is their XJ Stage 4 model.

    The rear bumper I made.

  • Nice Jeep, i never new Jeep made a pickup versin of the cherokee. Never seen em on the road before until a few days ago finally saw one.

  • Bad ass truck, ComancheClub FTMFW!

  • I had a 1990 jeep Cherokee and my neighbor had a 97 TJ i think and i went wheelin with him and im like wow this thing is awesome. But then I sold cause i was only 15 and i didnt have my permit or anything(now 16) and it needed a lot of work to see the road. and i didnt have any money. my dad had a 95 pathfinder thats been nothing but awesome. It could be -27F and it would start first turn. Be 3 feet on the ground and it would drive right threw no problem.

  • Dude.

  • greattttttt

  • Damn I miss mine. I had a 91 pioneer.

  • i was running 31 10.50s on my Eliminator ,but downsized to 235s and like it better just for on road use Mostly so it works better for me. Your tuck looks really nice . My truck has about Nickle & dimed me to death with not much to show for it,but its all in trying to make it a slight bit better c ondition. My next project is installing ABS sheet of plastic with fiberglass insul up as a Headliner.

  • how hard is it to take the bed off?

  • @thecardrawer10

There are about 8 bolts that hold the bed on. You also have to drop the gas tank and disconnect the wiring harness, thats about it.

  • i have a 81 and love the thing

  • awesome video man, great lookin comanche

  • Looks soooooooooo sick at 3:55

  • i have a 1986 jeep comanche i want it to look like yours but way stronger

  • You just inspired me to make a video with my 95 f 150. i have an 88 Comanche also. but my ford was my first truck, and no matter what i go through in my jeep i love the roar of my fords pipes. Still love the video and Comanche's. BAD ASS little trucks

  • Only in a Jeep....

  • @casper1780

Exhaust is stock or custom bent tubing with a Flowmaster 40 series. No cat.

  • i had 90 with 300.000 on it till the comp took a dump i beat the cracp out of it and it kept running nomater what i did to it. i just did the normal stuff oil changes..ect.

i loved it and i want a nother one really bad i miss that old truck. you jeep guys keep theas thing running caus its a JEEP THING once you have one you just have that itch for more fun and adventure.love what you did with it. are those stock axels? thanks for posting this vid

  • @adstanaitis

Axles are Dana 30 up front and Dana 44 in the rear for now... Stock setups except for the rear brakes which have been converted to a disc brake setup.

  • I bought an 86 Comanche with 76,000 miles on it, it's all original. It needed work on the front end. I'm 14 soon to turn 15 in july, do you think this is a good buy for 100 dollars. Yes it runs very good.

  • I would trade my TJ for an MJ at the drop of a hat. One of the best vehicles Jeep has ever made.

  • any recomendations on where to get parts? I have an 86 that needs a lot of work

  • @Kenshen78 - Sadly there are not many places to get MJ parts. Junkyards are your best bet other than finding places that sell XJ parts, that is if the parts you need are on the front of the truck.

What parts do you need specifically?

  • @Kenshen78 theres a website called cherokeeforum and they have comanche parts sometimes

  • I have a 88 Comache , for some reason...The lights refuse to go off , so I have to disconnet the battery. this sucks. anyone ever had this happen?

  • @97warlock - nope, never had that happen. Have you checked the switch on the dash?

  • Is that a Comanche with a 360?!

  • @MxStyleZ - no 360 here, just the plain old 4.0L that the old girl was born with. Still ticking along wonderfully too. Right around 130K on the clock, LOTS of life left!

  • @FiveHundredMJ i got a 360 with trany tcase and diff that would fit in that truck :D AMC 360!

  • What a sweet jeep comanche makes me mad at myself for not buying one last week but it was beat to piss and i dont have any vehicle right now:(

  • badass man

  • excellent :) wish i documented my older one a little better...didnt have anything done to it but i loved it the same, i need to start doing some shoots and videos of my XJ...very nice MJ man

  • I've got a '91 Comanche with a 5spd semi 4x4. Transfer case isnt in yet, but got a Dana 30 all set and ready to go. What kind of exhaust you got on that thing, sounds awesome, even from far away. Rockin' truck man!

  • @sabotsailor6331

The exhaust is just plain old regular 2" exhaust, custom bent to hug close to the bottom of the bed for offroad. The muffler is a flowmaster 40 series and I let the cat out and it didn't come back.

  • congratulations man nice MJ =)

  • thats a clean lookin jeep man i like it!! my cuz has one its pretty much a beast lol

a heads up just my opinion though i liked it better with the mickey thompson looking rims on rather than the black ones... buts it still looks good either way man. nice looking jeep!!

ive got a 5.9l limited grand cherokee... its a freaking beast no joke... future plans to lift it and put dif bumpers on it front and rear and then go from there lol jeeps are the best!!

  • Dude that is probably the sexiest Jeep Comanche i have ever seen. I have an 1987 Comanche, its nice but yours is way sexier man.

  • that shit is badass. some nigger destroyed my xj the other day

  • Not a bad truck i got a 1988 jeep comanche chief all original non lifted ect ive found 4x4 jeeps but not with 5 speeds like myne

  • looks good nice progress

your best bet is to put s 94 dana 35 under the front it does not have the stupid slide lock for the pass axle in it you just pull the lever and go in 4x4 i did the swap in my 89 xj

  • Yah, I've got it taken care of. The truck was originally 2wd. One of the first things to go was the 2wd front axle. It got replaced with a non-disco Dana 30...

  • Nice MJ! How high do you have it lifted?

  • Thanks, I've got a 5.5" suspension lift in the front, 5.75" in the rear.

  • How much did the whole restoration cost so far?

  • I've lost track...its alot.

  • Cant be that bad. I thinking it would cost about 7.5-10k. is it somewhere around that?

  • hey fellow comanche club brethren...sup

  • i own a 90' Comanche Pioneer with 43,000 on it, just put new U-joints in and fixed the 4 wheel drive. i can't see ever selling the ol' truck, its so unique especially in northern Michigan were i live. someday my truck will look new, ill patch the rust and repaint. but back to the point, nice video, love the truck, were a dieing breed lol

  • We are a dieing breed. Glad to see a fellow Michigander on here with an MJ. I'm originally from Michigan as well, Reed City.

Now in Wisconsin though, gotta go where the jobs are...

    Have fun with that MJ!

  • i'm 18 years old, ill have WAY to much fun with it, thats a promise

  • @levi744

    go to comancheclub,com

    were all on there

  • Wanted a Comanche soo bad, I got myself a 98' Cherokee with a 5" lift on 35's, and man id trade it for a stock Comanche any day

  • haha at first i didnt see that he was pulling that jimmy at 3:25

  • Very nice job with the Comanche. I can't wait to start building up my ZJ. Do you have a list of the specs?

  • Is this what you are looking for?

    '88 MJ 4.0L / '89 YJ AX-15 / '90 MJ 231J

    '92 XJ Dana 30 / '87 XJ Dana 44

Late '80s and early '90s turned out to be good years for me :)

  • Very nice, there is a Comanche over on GL4x4 I have been really looking at.

  • i have an 88' also that i want to lift

did you dod a spring over or use an add a leaf... or something else?

  • I kept it spring under and lifted it with some lift springs and longer shackles. I also kept the factory load springs in the leaf packs that I made up for it (mostly out of Rusty's 4.5 inch lift packs) so I could handle some loads with the truck. The Rusty's packs alone were very supple. They have started to level out as well now. I'll have to do something different soon to keep the truck sitting right.

  • That is a sweet comanche for sure

  • Good to hear! I'm always surprised at the people who sell their Comanche to people like us for a song and dance and then think that they made out on the deal like a bandit. In reality they just sold something that they will soon wish they still had. I've seen it happen time and time again, some fool will sell the truck and then come begging the new owner to sell it back to them.

  • i paid 500 for my 88 Comanche named Bruto.man,hes a nice truck

  • i got a 89 with the inline 6 4.0 2x4

  • and what did you do about the 4wheel drive shifter? thanks

  • man nice job. i just got a 88 comanche. i love the truck but its a 2 wheel drive with a 4 banger and 4 speed .. i have had two xj so i know a little about them. i was thinkin of convertin my comanche to a 4wheel drive with a 4.0 h.o. but idk how much parts would cost.. ie front end. motor. harness. tranny with case

  • not bad, my brother brought a land rover series 3 which he is currently doing up to take to iceland. vids up next summer.

  • This is one bad ass video!

  • dude that is awesome!! i have 2 comanches and this is just incentive to get my ass in gear and start working on them!

  • Get to it!

  • so you made yours four wheel drive, how much does it cost to do it?

  • I lost track, spent more time than money though. Parts are Cheap for these... somewhere around $800 is my guess

  • what did u rob the 4wd parts off of?

  • Wow, Great video!

  • Thanks

  • i've been thinking about buyin one of these, i own a 96 XJ right now, and this video made my decison. nice truck man.

  • If you get one, you will never regret it.

  • I have a 92 Comanche Eliminator I bought for 800 bucks off my uncle.I run with the 4.0 straight six with bigger fuel injectors K&N cold air intake and split duals out the back. With the stock 5 speed.I took my friends a ride with the set up I have and some own Mustangs 5.0s and they said that with my truck I can get them on take off but I need to work on the top end speed of the truck. Also if anybody knows where I can get a good short bed please let me know I need one.

  • thats sweet

  • i saw this truck on comanche club i admire this truck and am cyrrentyl looking to make mine 4x4 i just can find the right stuff for it how hard is it to use cherokee axles tranny and transfer will the drivesshafts fit or will i have to make some and my truck is exactly like yours when you started same color too haha

  • Usually the front driveshaft will fit without any modification. The rear driveshaft will no doubt need to be fabricated. Cherokee parts are very easy to use for the 4x4 swap. Wrangler parts are not bad to use either. Just put parts in there that are worth your while, dont throw a junk tranny/t-case in... make your time count by getting a good set to put in.

  • is that caroline alberta by chance

  • ? what ?

  • Wow, wish I had the time and skills to make my MJ as outstanding a truck as yours! Always loved these trucks in blue... Maybe down the road... ;^) Keep up the great work!!!

  • Thanks - took lots of time to do, sure wasn't an overnight project. Best of luck with your MJ - Keep it around and I guarantee you won't be disappointed!

I currently own this '88 and another '90 that is still 2wd. I'll drive either of them anywhere. They are cheap to repair and almost anyone can work on them - plus their a Jeep. How could things get any better than that!?!?

  • @FiveHundredMJ Ha ha After a new batt and starter my Mj is still tickin strong. Just drove across Washington state and back a couple weeks ago and she ticked over 201,000! Still getting 19-20 in the city, and almost 25 on the highway! How's the '90 doing? And the '88 as well! Ha ha Hope they and you are havin a blast

  • @bermsurfer230

Both trucks doing great, the '90 gets the tap more often than not as I am doing lots of long distance driving this summer...

  • The truck is geared at 3.55 (for now). I have a manual transmission and I am running the original 4.0L Engine (This is the Renix Setup, not the H.O. Chrysler one)

Best I can get is 19.5 mpg (Wind behind me, tires at 30 psi, driving 55 mph, etc). Worst I have gotten is 16 mpg.

  • What exhaust do you have? I was seriously gonna ask if you dropped a V8 in there but then I saw where you said it's the 4.0!

  • Yah, the engine is bone stock.

My CURRENT exhaust (since Sept of '07) consists of a Flowmaster 40 series muffler and new OEM pipe. The Catalytic converter was left off of the truck (no emissions testing here).

The previous movie clips had an exhaust thrown together with a used muffler and scrap pipes...

  • never sell it

    unless it is to me

  • Plans are to keep it for a LONG time :)

  • yea look at my truck you have the same color as mine

  • beautiful jeep man, i have a vid on my comanche check it out bro

  • WOW, great video! I dig the timeline buildup. Not your usual dull overview...the truck is incredible, keep up the great work!

  • 2003 Chrysler Electric Blue Pearlcoat

  • Man! I lvoe seeing someone who takes their Comanche out and get in insanely dirty and give it a beating sometimes BUT also keeps in in the best condition it prolly has ever been in good job!

And may I ask what's the engine?

I have an '86 Jeep Comanche 4X4 with a 2.5L engine bored out to an 3.2L.

  • Thanks!

The Jeep has the original '88 4.0L Engine in it and its running GREAT!

  • First height was 3.5" - Bigger wheels/Tires took it to 5.5"...

  • what was the lift in the begining ?

  • nice jeep - looks great!
