  • Also, catch The Harmonizing Four doing "Farther Along". Check out how it is different form SC and the Soul Stirrers version. An interesting comparison.

However, also on the Specialty - Legends of Gospel "The Soul Stirrers; The Last Mile of the Way" cd you 've got to take a listen to "Lord Remember Me". The best version of that I've heard yet!

  • @melotone That is the Sam Cooke version; not the one on youtube posted by DaEnTaPrise. I don't think the Sam Cooke version in represented on youtube.

  • Does anyone here know of film footage of San Cook with the Soul Stirrers? Indeed, there seems to be very, very little footage of Sam Cook at any time in his career. And then most that I've seen is him on tv shows where either its lips syncd, or the audio and video track are so off that you can't tell its live.

  • @melotone There's a new gospel music documentary out, tracing its history and whatnot, and the producers of the film stated there is no video of Sam with the Soul Stirrers. Tragic.

  • @indure08 That is so, so, sad to hear. Somewhat amazing considering that they group was very popular in that time period. I wonder why (emphasis, bold, underline) there is no video history. Thanks for your reply.

  • Just want ya'll ta know. I am Sam's biggest fan! Bar none!

  • HELP! Does anyone know where one can hear (if it even exists) the performance Sam did with the Soul Stirrers for New Years Eve 1962????

  • u betta get em' Sam!...that's right tell em" don't rush you! Don't rush the master at work!

  • As a little girl this song brought sorrow in my heart for A Man I've never seen but Know HE IS WAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE

yes it made me tremble and His voice does the same. beautiful Obeservation...

  • Wow.... Thats a classic hearin Sam in a live recording.

  • thank you.

  • OH yeah Sam Cooke was peaking for sure!! What a great song!!

  • I respectfully disagree PapPap. I think Sam was at his peak when he died. In fact, I think he was about to burst onto the soul scene with such fever, the world wouldn't have been able to handle it. To say it's a shame he died at 33 is a horrific understatement.

  • @141Jessy ...I respectfully disagree with both of you....Sam had no peak....Vocal or otherwise....And when the annoiting and favor of God was upon him...he would shake himself like Sampson.... he had no equal...Thats in singing and business...I miss him every day... thanks T. for this wonderful post...Hey T check out..( larry hilton cooke 4.).....Cooke

  • @larrycancooke2 Boy, I miss Sam too, and I never met him. Somebody must have some real charisma to be affecting people's lives 50 years after their death. Imagine what he would've done had he lived...

  • @141Jessy .....And thank you soooo much for checking out the videos....I'm working on doing what you said....Cooke

  • Thats to fast, don't rush me I can't say that word. Sam was the master at phrasing. He could fit a bunch of word in a measure. There will never be another Sam Cooke

  • That's right Mr. Cooke..."Don't rush me."

  • i know it's hard to believe, but the released version is better yet. thanks to tjmministries for this & all your other posts.

  • I love this song my boy Sam is singing this song. He's is at the peek of his voice on this one. Thanks for sharing

  • @PapPap3x UR WELCOMED

  • @TjmMinistries Thank you for this post, my friend.

  • Tremble!

  • I didn't hear nothing wrong with them first takes.

  • Does Andre Crouche sing this 2. If so I do like his version a lot 2

  • Gone too Soon from Us But I believe he will be at the Gates Sangin' the Saint on into Glory on That Day!!

  • TJMMinistries, it sounds like you have the playback from the studio session tapes. Is that so?

  • @chikkengrease yes

  • *i love this better than the song itself*:26- :28*lol*

  • TjmMinstries.......just hear an old interview by David Ruffin In England. Stated he sang with the Soul Stirrers for a shor time. Do you know if he recorded anything while with the group. Said he was in the group after Johnnie Taytlor. I know Sam Cooke was his idol.

  • @aproctor900 wish i knew if david ruf sang w them, but i am a FAN of ruffs.

  • Well, as a believer, when I hear this I have to tremble. That's why I'm watching this video...because I do believe. I don't understand why someone who doesn't believe would take the time to watch this and post??? Logical?

  • As a rank athiest I can only say that when I listen to this I have to tremble.

  • @solidcitizen1 have u heard god is so wonderful by sam cooke. if u dont mind listen 2 it its smooth beautiful & true.

  • I cant understand why they keep telling him to try it again, sounded perfect to me, the man,s voice was just amazing. GREAT SONG ,THANK YOU JESUS FOR DYIING ON THE CROSS FOR ME!!!

  • sam said it was a little too fast

  • You just cant teach something like that. I am so jealous. God given pipes.

  • as good as this is, it's not as good as the released version (hard to believe, i know). get it on 78rpm if you can & hold on because you will be moved & moved deeply.

  • subperb...love seeing what singers put forth to get that sound perfected. thanks for sharing...looking forward to more...!!!

  • Beautiful! Thanks for the post!

  • wow.

  • Aretha got the first notes of this is Don't Play that song for me. I think her and Sam was gonna get it on, and her father was looking for her. In her song Don't Play that song, for me. She say that she was only 17, and he kissed her and walked away,, . She used these Same Sam Cooke notes as if she was sending a message to him.
