  • That's an old Hallicrafters receiver main tuning dial. It was used on several models. I still own the HQ129 and HQ160 and know 'em well.

  • Thankyou for the info on CHU. When did the change take effect????? In the mid 90's I used to use CHU to check calibration on my SB-102....Looks like I won't be doing that anymore. Man are things changing in the shortwave world.

  • @WX5G The frequency change took place on January 1, 2009. The change was necessary due to an ITU HF global reallocation that re-assigned the spectrum just above 40-meters to broadcasting. The problem was that CHU is licensed as a "fixed service", rather than a broadcast service, so it had to move. In fact, some broadcasters had already started using 7335 kHz before CHU had officially vacated the frequency! Their other frequencies remain unchanged. WWV dropped 25 MHz back in 1977.

  • @outatime1955 HQ-140-X

  • Wow !! Have things changed. WWV and if propragation was real good you could hear WWVH in the background. They used to be on 2.5, 5 , 10, 15, and 25 MHZ. haven't been active for awhile. Did they change?????? Also CHU used to be on 40 meters at 7.335, has this changed also??????

  • @WX5G CHU QSYed to 7850 kHz a few years ago.

  • Thank you for recording this in 1976, holding on to it through the years, and now posting it on youtube.

  • I remember that voice well.

  • and they only dropped 25...

  • Boy, looking at the dial on the video, they are WAY off frequency! LOL

  • this is still played on 10 mhz or so

  • @JettaJ1 different voices now.

  • WOW! How do you still have this? 73's de w1rmd (ex. w4cgr)

  • @ryan29073 I recorded it back in 1976 when I was 12 years old thinking it would be a neat thing to look back on in the future. Guess I was right. :-)

  • way back before they had a computer to talk how did they do the anoucements prerecorded messages on tape or what?

  • @DRNEGOLICIS I believe a magnetic drum recorder was used.

  • awesome what radio were u useing lookes almost like a hummarlund dial

  • @DRNEGOLICIS Hammarlund is correct!

  • @5UP7 what can i say? im just that good at guessing radios :D

  • I have a QSL card that verifies all 5 frequencies. Now I feel *OLD* ! Hi Hi

  • @k9rzz wwv has qsl cards?

  • @DRNEGOLICIS Yes, absolutely!

  • whoa it sounds exactly the same 33 years later!

  • WWV and WWVH still operate on 2.5 MHz as well, but at lower power compared to 5, 10, and 15 MHz. WWV (only) also transmits on 20 MHz, also at reduced power.

WWV also transmitted on 30 and 35 MHz from 1946 to 1953.

  • i listened this station in 10,000 and 15000 Khz in Lima Peru every day. just see my videos in youtube
