This song is special for me. My Father and Mother were creamated and their ashes spread in the Green River. There is a little cemetary close to the the power plant that they were not alowed to touch. IT is my Family Cemetary that I had no idea existed until a few years ago. It is known as the McDougall Cemetary to all the people in the area. Thank you John for remembering Paradise for all of us.
great job! I remember from when I was a young boy my dad played this on his guitar...it has alot of meaning to me since my mothers side of my family came right from parts. It's a beautiful song but one cannot deny the sadness of it...so many beautiful places have suffered the same fate in the name of "progress"
My best friend of 31 years would always sing this song to me. She got killed in a car wreck on March 28, 2009. I miss her so much...Nobody could sing this song like she did.....
All a man can say is "what a F#*kin' shame", and not much has changed! Wall St., the "bottomline" and the almighty dollar is all that matters...WTF !! It's CRIMINAL and our govmnt lets it happen.....that's why this country is in the shape that it's in, DAMN !....see how ya can get tied-up in the emotions of a great song :)
and daddy wont you take me back to muhlenberg county down by the green river where paradise lay. im sorry my son but your too late in askin mr. peabodys coal train has hauled it away
Great job, I however must comment on the fact that someone gave a thumbs down to the below comment about "Clean Coal". Whomever gave that thumbs down has clearly missed the entire point that Prine was making in this song. Coal mining destroys nature and beauty, period. Clean, dirty, whatever. It kills the land. Pay attention to the song, his childhood version of Paradise gone because of the progress of man.
Hey Rudy ... beautifully sung and played. 5/5 Always loved Dwight Yoakam's rendition of this song much more than the original ... Now you've given Dwight a run for his money! :)
Don't see where willythewave2 has posted your stats yet ... so here they are for Sunday, 7:24 PM (Muhlenberg County, KY time) which is Monday, 1:24 AM your time ... :)
