@gundamskull45 that has nothing to do with what these are for. these are meant to adjust the location of the gears in relation to eachother, giving the best possible contact between gear teeth. Bearings are what said gears traverse on. Its funny actually, because of all the 2gx's ive had to open, not a single one had shims, and the spur and pinion gears were heavily worn because of it. Engineered to outperform my ass...
Man people are dicks online... The original accepted concept of shimming was "Spur/Step gear first" but now its more well accepted that Bevel and Pinion shimming is the proper way to do it due to motor whine and pinion wear.
I whish They did this earlyer... Now I know that me JG G36 needs shimmed. After I took it apart and put it all back together some parts are not in the Gearbox.......
THIS is why I completely switched to GBB's. All I have now is Gas Guns and handfuls of extra parts. easier to just split the gun open and replace the whole internals every 20-30 mags instead of this
Course you can also put grease into the mix, this will change the shimming, plus its good to put grease between each shim, this also changes the shimming. Its also important to have a little play or movement in the gears so they can adjust. I often see boxes far too lose, but most often far too tight as people are obsessive about play.
It doesn't make sense at all... You can't shim your pinion gear unless you adjust the motor height. And it all depends on gear brands too. For instance, my Turbo 3000 has a pinion that will only mesh properly with ICS gears and all the shimming in the world can't fix that.
@Yams313 You can't shim your gears until you adjust the motor height, you can't adjust the motor height until you dissasemble the gun, you can't dissasemble the gun before you get out your tools, and you can't get out your tools until you crack open a can of ice cold bud light.
@haronasi Motor adjustment is not axial, it is a linear adjustment towards the gear. Shim your bevel wrong either way and you are going to wear something out, break it, or just run noisily or inefficiently.
@DisguisedAirsofter It's obious to get the bevel so that it doesn't have side-to-side movement and moves freely. I ment that the motor adjustment is to meet the pinion with the bevel. Bevels teeth are in an angle, so are Pinions'. Therefore when the pinion moves towards the gear it will eventually meet up with the teeth...
@haronasi Eventually meet up eh? Eventually could mean that just the front half of the teeth meet and you've got poor power transfer, bad noise, and low ROF, or it could mean that you would need the front half of the pinion to pass through the center of the gear for the rear half to meet properly and have poor efficiency, major noise, and low ROF. You really don't get it, do you?
@DisguisedAirsofter I do. I haven't ran to a situation like that, not even once. the tolerances are so tight that the odds of that happening are so small. I shim my gears as close as I can to the left shell of the GB, therefore the the pinion and the bevel teeth meet up quite nicely, this also aligns the piston teeth rack with the sector gear. It's just my method, but using this shimming method I havent ran into a problem of misaligning the bevel and the pinion.
@haronasi Not sure what parts you are using that have that small of tolerances... the only way I've had this is with Siegetek gears in some of the slimmer gearboxes. (or you are using very soft gears/pinion (IE: systema/TM gears, TM/G&P pinion) that can deform to function properly like this)
@DisguisedAirsofter Siegetek all the way pal, bought f2f from Riotsc himself. As a gearbox I tend to use a CA gearbox, with custom milled 7mm steel bushings.
i love how all the smart asses aren't hating on this video yet even though most airsofters should know this already too.... evike u got a lot of posers hating on your other videos

shim the bevel first or you will break your pinion

You aren't shimming the bevel to the pinion... that is one of the most important interractions. That is where you should shim FIRST.
