Hi RoadieRules! Thanks so very much for this great tale! I find this band very inspiring, I very much appreciate any and all stories from behind the scenes that you have! Smiles and peace to you! ;-)
That's all sweet sounding but the when Roger fired Steve, he accused him of not being the only one who's ever lost anyone. He was implying that Steve was using his moms death as an excuse for being depressed too long. Roger puts his business before his friends.
The day Roger wrote this song he had told Larson that he over heard someone askeing him if he shined. Larson replied, "I already Shined". Pretty cool stuff. Larson tried to tell Roger that he didn't in fact say that at all. Later he realized Jason Boots had asked him if he showered. Larson replied, "I already showered".Roger hearing this from the other room was touched and wrote a very heartfelt song in homage to Steve's mom dying.
Dammit, I missed this show. I live in AZ, but was in Lakewood visiting a friend when they were in Mexico, and in Mexico when they were in Colorado. Oh well, they'll be home August 8th and 9th. Plus I was lucky enough to make it to Celebrity for the CD release in March.
According the the liner on "Turbo Ocho": "Steve Larson got a phone call on day 4 of our recording session, that his mom was finally set free from this world." Then Steve comments that he feels the whole thing changed them as a band and he thinks Roger wrote it in homage to the situation. We all send our sympathy and hugs to Steve. j
