  • What did Richard Nixon do pre 1968? He served in Congress drom 1947 to 1953, then was Vive President from 1953 to 1961. He supported and voted for the GI bill, NATO, The Marshall Plan, the regulation of atomic power, stood up to Khruschev in Moscow, and helped persuade President Eisenhower to intervene in Little Rock in 1957 to protect black children. By the way, what did Hubert Humphrey have to do with the passage of social security? That had been way back in 1935.

  • @thomas58ish Humphrey was the driving force responsible for securing cloture and breaking the southern senators filibuster, thus permitting passage of the landmark Civil Right Act of 1964, without a doubt the most important piece of civil rights legislation in American history. I recommend a great book called "The Walls of Jericho" that tells the story of the political careers of Humphrey, LBJ, and Richard Russell (the de facto leader of the southern bloc).

  • Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.

  • That one's pretty fair, actually.

  • yeah it was a good one
