shoot - despite the negative comments...i really think dave sounds good compared to the other musicians out there touring at his age! he sounds a little out of breath - but c'mon...give 'em some credit! i was pleasantly surprised watching this!
Actually Dave sounds better than I expected. I mean he hasn't done anything in a while. So got to give them credit, But if I was going to a show, I would wait for later shows as they get better and warm up more to the tunes. Van Halen still rocks. Have to wait till monday to see if Zep can rock it like this still in O2 arena. I'm sure we will have instant you tube vids up
In fact I met them backstage on the diver down tour, Man valerie was a hottie then, I think we looked more at Valerie and some chicks backstage then we cared to meet the band like everyone else hehehe. With my long lost Halen fan friend Eric. Man that tour was the shit, This is not bad, I wouldn't expect the same sound of 30 somethings at 50 something. Lets get real and stop the nonsense about how old they are. We know that.
Eddie is still great in my book will always be,He deserves the respect due to him for his work , Dave sounds good on the Diver Down material on this tour. I think thats the period his voice matured and where it stayed. On the older material he sounds decent for his age, but come on after seeing them on several tours . Including the diver down tour, I admit he lost it forr the older tunes.
I saw them in Sacramento and I was pleasantly suprised for 2hrs and 10 min. These guys in there 50's (and a teen) are a lot better than most crap put out today!! Very enjoyable show.
Since the re-union was announced I have been listening to quite a bit of Van Halen again. Depressingly watching the footage does not tally with my fondly held memories of the band I loved in the late 70's early 80's. There is no DLR (this is an old guy with no voice) and no Michael Anthony (replaced by a younger but weaker alternative). Sorry but I bought enough records already I wont be buying a ticket. What a real shame - I mean it seems genuinely embarrassing and pitiful.
I should point out that I still rate Eddie and Alex as fine musicians and I am grateful to them for the music they have written in the past. I was not trying to criticise for the sake of it I just believe that as an artistic decision this re-union is misguided. I am sure they will get rich off it but should that be the point? They will no doubt fall out again once they have made some money. I must be getting old - I can't see the positives in this but there must be some.
well for all your negativity I will sya they sounded alot beter than the video implies. This wasn't a rushed half ass tour like the Sammy 04 tour was.
Thanks for your response fightclubhubbs. It makes a change for somebody to respect an opinion on You Tube - so many people just want to argue for the sake of it. I am sure the video does not do them justice as you suggest.
I say suck in your pride and go to a VH concert, you might be surprised? Being a musician myself I can take the quality (lack of!) of utube clips at face value and take it for what it's worth. What 'fightclubhubbs' said about video qualities are right on the money! Unless your there in person, any video bootleg doesn't do justice. That's what you get with bootlegs, it's to be expected. Believe me VH are playing & sounding better than ever!!
If these guys are this good after being broke up for soooooooo long, Just think how good if they never broke up. Damn them boys is good. Dave is Van Halen.
Saw em' in 81,82, and 84 with DLR. In fact 81' Fair Warning Tour was my first concert; I was 13 years old. I'm 39 now and listening to this I can tell you they don't sound any different really than before. Indy th 14th I'm there. Let's hope they stay together this time. Peace Out.
This song has always been a personal favorite of mine, its a real cool ballad that kicks ass, way better than any of the crappy Sammy Van Hagar Ballad Schlock... VAN HALEN KICKS ASS WELCOME BACK EDDIE, DAVE, ALEX & WOLFIE!!!
I'm sure Eddie could play the keyboards if he wanted to, I'm surprised he doesn't do what Geddy Lee of Rush is play both partially at once. Use his hands on the keyboard for the keyboard parts & use footpedal devices to control the keyboards when he's playing his guitar.... I'm sure he could do it.
I was in the 2nd row and I loved it.I hope Im in that kind of shape when Im Daves age.

If only they could record a live CD or DVD of this concert.

What kind of bass is Wolfgang playing here? I know he usually uses a Thunderbird for this song, but that's clearly not one of them

All the songs sound phenomenal, but this one I've been questioning since opening night. Just haven't cared for how it sounded.
Your videos are awesome, though. Perfect quality stuff. You coulda done the whole show and made the trading community VERY happy :)

I was there in the first row in front of the ramp. So this was a real highlight of the show for me.
I'm not too crazy about the keyboards being on tape.
Thanks for sharing.
