i thought the sign was still up, damn, i never even got to see it, i wanted to visit new york just to see it, i'm 13 years old and i have always wanted to see the legendary storefront, that and l'amours, what they are playing at l'amours now is a sin, freaking crappy new music, its not even at the same location, the name was just stolen.
The club was opened in the year I was born and I have seen many shows there. It will forever be lamentable that a place with such character and history is gone forever and only persists as a memory of the good days that are behinds us. The world changes and yet in some ways we do not~ CBGB may be gone, but for those of us that had the privilege of sitting at the bar, standing in the crowd, playing on the stage, or traversing the stairs to the bathroom... it will live forever.
So sad! Even though its heyday was long over, it still should've been a historical landmark (though it's debatable how popular it would be in the long run).
i was thinking the same thing? like why didnt blondie, tommy ramone, joan jett, patti smith do anything? i think blondie did but not enough, but patti smith could have helped :(
A VERY high end boutique is now in this location. With the economy the way it is (FUCKED), it won't be long before that closes too and the gentrification ends in NYC.
I fucking cry when i watch that fucking closing ! FUCK THE LAND LORDS AND LONG LIVE HILLY WHEREVER U ARE MAN! U WILL BE REMEMBERED FOREVER AND EVER EVEN IN THE 3RD WORLD COUNTRY LIKE BULGARIA ! LONG LIVE CBGBs LONG LIVE IN OUR HEARTS AND SOULS !
whatever, i'd rather see a show around the corner anyway. aside from nostalgia hungry bands, can anyone think of the last good band that came up there or even came through there while touring? i saw the libertines there a few years ago but that was a total nostalgia/promotion thing. don't get me wrong, television is one of my favorite bands ever, but seriously...the plaque nyu puts up should suffice.
Anthrax, Bad Brains, Black Flag, Flipper, The Jesus Lizard, KoЯn, Minor Threat, Motörhead, Mudhoney, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Sonic Youth, and Soundgarden.
What a terrible thing for this historic club to close. New York Dolls, Blondie, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Dead Boys, Patti Smith, Iggy and The Stooges, and so many other great bands were discovered there. A shame.
i know.those new york idiots should have kept it intact so it could have been like a meuseum,so everyone could see what it was like in its glory days.ever since ive heard about The Ramones, its been a dream of mine to go to CBGB and now i will never ever be able to because the real thing is gone.
End of an era, sad clip!

It is the BRC that is responsible for the closing.
They present themselves as an organaztion to help the homeless, but there only real intention is to get rid of them.

If the HUGE crowd that gathered outside to see it go had spent more time inside they might have been able to afford to pay the rent lol, sad though
