Colbert just goes to show that the easiest way to lambast this absolutely conceited, pig-headed schmuck O'Reilly is to simply agree with everything he says. His arguments are so completely foundation-less, and crass, that nothing does more damage to his viewpoint, than the viewpoint itself.
Ridicule, hand-in-hand with sarcasm may be one of the lowest forms of tactic during a debate, but hey - in this instance, that's all that's really needed. Especially when the opposition resorts to SHOUTING to get his point across, in an asinine, bullying intimidation technique. While 'snide' Colbert may be, didn't O'Reilly cross some short of line by doing this?
If I was his boss I would have reprimanded him for this, or even fined him a big wad from his next paycheck (though he'll probably be under a contract so the manner of - whatever - I'm ranting so it's hard to really thing thoroughly through everything your saying). What an a-hole! Diatribe over.

This guy doesn't have a clue what Colbert is doing. Colbert is neutralizing O'Reillys place in culture and place in history. O'Reilly is so sheltered he cant even see Colbert four feet in front of him.
Colbert &Stewart are very intelligent and truly have a talent for comedy.
Sarcasm and above all laughter, can help beat this '1984' fear-stylized media/propaganda going on. Orwell is flipping in his grave at FOX, other media and Bush's rhetoric, while Goebbels is smiling that his techniques are being sustained in one of the world's leading democracies (btw. democracy requires a free media, think about US media in general :) )
im a conservative, kind of, colbert is funny as shit though, i dont like jon stewart, but thats just because he doesnt make sense half the time. i just like to laugh
Why do both you Democrats and Republicans go against each other like this? This is why the U.S is in such a bad situation. I am neither liberal or conservative, but I believe everyone should put their differences aside and unite once again to give the wrath of the people to the World's true enemy: the politics of the Bush Administration.
O'reilly's strange obsession with Colbert's french background is pathetic, he really seems to believe that Colbert's changing of the pronunciation of his name holds some great point or lesson for Colbert fans... as if we didn't realize that the whole "colberr reporr" wasnt a joke in itself.
colbert is funny at times but a little much at times...people hate o'reilly so much cause he says things we might think but will never say..he has balls love him or hate him
O'reilly isn't a facist, he'd have to subscribe to a facist political party for that. He's just someone who believes that yelling, interrupting, and insulting makes him right, not facts, logic, evidence, ect. As a result of his temperament he's less likely to absorb new information, listen to other people or conside/acknowledge opposing arguments.
Please someone remix this interview into a montage with other O'Reilly & Colbert clips & set it to music. Colbert actually spanks O'Reilly harder on O'Reilly's show than he does on his own. I hope clips are rebroadcast on Colbert's show for months to come....
That was great. Please realize that it was two people having fun.
"Does you being more popular make him use more substance?"
People got offended, that is something that I could easily see Colbert asking a congressman. O'Reilly was having fun and was "emulating" Colbert. O'Reilly's mannerisms was copying Colbert (fooling with papers, asking out of the blue questions, taking one thing he said in the beginning and bringing it up non-stop)
I find it pathetic that O'Reilly resorted to making fun of Stewart... who is a comedian that has never claimed his show to be serious. Of course there are pot smoking idiots watching his show, but there are also young kids, like myself, who just want to know what's going on in the world and get a good laugh at the same time.

the o reilly obsession with french is a sickness!
he should remove the "statue of liberty"(most famous US symbol worldwide!100% french!) and change 60% of english vocabulary if he wanted to live in a pure anglo-saxon world...
No, no. SC was alluding the O'Reilly sexual harrassment lawsuit, that HE wasn't allowed to bring up. He was, in other words, mentioning something he'd agreed not to say in a way he could get away with.
I enjoyed how Stephen came up with things to say to O'Reilly's questions about his past. He had to try to explain his real life in his character persona.
O'Reilly played the game on colbert's sarcastic terms. People like little stephen get away with liberal talking points when they have an audience to play along with. They try to make a point on a serious issue and then hide behind the mask of "humor" or "entertainment". Let's see if little stephen can be a man and debate seriously with Bill. I seriously doubt it.
Get awaty with liberal talking points? You make it sound like there's a problem with liberal talking points. The conservative wall is the thing that bothers me and is what has been the biggest damaging factor toward the United States. Humor is a good way to get across very important issues, because many people are not up to date on their facts... and humor is the best weapon against the tactics of fear used by conservatives.
Aside from being backwards and wrong on every issue, I don't have a problem with liberal talking points. But when it's disguised as "comedy", it is protected from real scrutiny. Colbert hides real issues behind a joke and a sarcastic persona. If you challenge him, you're not cool, because it's just a joke, get it?
Colbert would win against O'Reilly in a real debate because he is a comedian, but he knows how to debate. If you want to see serious liberals, watch liberal news. If you want to see the conservative side... watch O'Reilly. And if you want to laugh off the mess this country is in... WATCH COLBERT!!!
"If you want to see serious liberals, watch liberal news." Well that's almost impossible to escape from. You and I disagree, I don't think this country is in a mess at all. We are the most powerful, successful, wealthy nation in the history of mankind. Of course we have problems and areas for concern, but it's people like colbert that would like you to think it's all Bush's fault. That's wrong.
And I agree humor is a good way to open the door to debate important issues, but it's dangerous when kids get their facts from comedy central. Not sure what fear tactics you're referring to, but terrorism is real, and conservatives seem to be the only ones taking it seriously. Hope that's not what you mean.
Yeah, he wouldn't get a serious debate. But not because he isn't "a man"...it's because he's a comedian!
He's not a political pundit, he's not a politician. He won't do anything that isn't something funny, because that's not his job.
Actually, I recall Jon Stewart being on Cross Fire and being yelled at for not giving John Kerry any "tough questions". To which he responded "But I'm a comedian." It's not their job to interrogate people- unless it would be funny...
You're proving my point. His comedy has an agenda. It is a facade to express liberal opinions. But when these opinions are challenged, him and Stewart hide like little girls behind the "But I'm a comedian" line. You can't have it both ways. Either admit what you are and what you're doing, or stay out of the political "comedy" game.
Actually, I believe you're the one who wants it both ways. You want them to be comedians and political pundits (and/or politicians). The only reason they're liberal (seeming) is because the current administration is conservative. They don't back off of liberal politicians who do stupid things either. Besides, Jon Stewart is a self-proclaimed centrist. And Stephen Colbert is a character actor. Breaking character means career goes bye-bye.
They may go after an individual Democrat occasionally, but they back off attacking liberal policies. I've seen Stewart on numerous interviews defending his true liberal beliefs while bashing Republicans. He is no centrist, whether he claims to be or not. Admitting that he's a liberal would tarnish his "centrist" image, but it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out where both of their loyalties lie.
Are you mad because they have a point-of-view, or mad because it's not a conservative point-of-view?
I do think you're wrong about Jon Stewart not being a centrist. Could it just be that he feels a lot more of the liberal policies make sense? And if that's the case, why would he make fun of something that makes sense?
I'm not mad about anybody's point of view. If Jon Stewart and Colbert believe in liberal policies, they have every right to think that way. I don't like how they pass themselves off as subjective critics of politics. It is apparent to just about everyone else that they are both left wing ideologues. I would just like for them to admit their true colors instead of trying to play me for a fool. It's insulting.
I don't even know what you're talking about anymore. It's not some big mysterious trick that everyone is trying to put over on you. Why and under what circumstances would it even be remotely appropriate for them to stand up and announce their political affiliation? Besides, if they did say they were liberals, you'd probably still call them "pussies" anyway for being liberals.
Though, I don't know what you have against vaginas...
If you don't understand yet after I've explained it here on all these posts, then I guess you just don't get it. Just keep on believing Stewart and Colbert are centrist, objective "comedians".
And sweetheart, if you knew me in person, you'd know from experience how wrong that last little line is.
Listen, honeybunch, using the term "pussy" as an insulting remark is more offensive to womenkind than it is to the men you wish to offend.
And calling women "sweetheart" when engaged in debate with them is more condescending than you deserve to be.
I'm not the one who's confused here, babycakes. You're the one who doesn't understand why it might be bad for someone who makes a living as a character who is a conservative making the announcement, "Btw, I'm actually a liberal."
I am so sorry. You are right. I admit it. Colbert and Stewart are objective comedians with no agenda other than to get a laugh. Am I still your babycakes?
No, you're misinterpretting it. Of course their political view points are expressed through the comedy of their shows, but they aren't cowards. Stewart makes fun of the entire media, both political parties (especially since the dems won congress), and pretty much any idiot who will talk to one of their correspondents.
They find it funny when they are challenged by real reporters and newscasters about how they report because it's not their job and their still doing it better than the one's asking them. But they have never become cowardly about their opinions, you're making that up, unless you have some sort of evidence.
I'm saying they're cowards for not admitting what they really are: pro-liberal and anti-conservative. They are liberal mouthpieceses but when somebody points out the obvious, they suddenly become "comedians". I think they are a couple of pussies for not admitting what they truly are: second rate liberal advocates.
When have they said they weren't liberals. Show me where they have said they weren't liberals or have claimed to have no political views or any of these things you seem to have no proof of. Show me a link to a video instead of just spouting speculation.
I can not stand the hypocrisy liberals cover themselves in but Jonny you are blowing this out of proportion. Other than Dennis Miller name one successful comedian that isn't liberal. Both Stewart and Colbert, while liberal to some degree, remember that they are comedians first and liberals second. If you want to brand someone in the field of comedy a cowardly liberal mouthpiece go find Bill Maher.
I really don't care about colbert or stewart, but I refuse to accept the "but I'm a comedian" defense when they talk about serious issues. Yes they are comedians, but I don't buy that garbage about them not having an agenda. It is clear they do. And I say they are cowards for not admitting this.
their agenda is to make you laugh at the absurdity of the world we live in. and they have a lot of material. if you don't get it, well, you're fooling yourself.
He tried not to - what do you think the whole French / "I talked to your grade-School teacher" thing was about. But he failed, because Stephen kept defusing the situation and coming back with something better.

Danyell214 5 years ago
Actually I think the big problem with having a real debate is that O'Reilly wouldn't want it... because Colbert could own him in comedy and debate.
TarnicUS 5 years ago
You're proving my point. His comedy has an agenda. It is a facade to express liberal opinions. But when these opinions are challenged, him and Stewart hide like little girls behind the "But I'm a comedian" line. You can't have it both ways. Either admit what you are and what you're doing, or stay out of the political "comedy" game.
JonnyLawrence 5 years ago
Actually, I believe you're the one who wants it both ways. You want them to be comedians and political pundits (and/or politicians). The only reason they're liberal (seeming) is because the current administration is conservative. They don't back off of liberal politicians who do stupid things either. Besides, Jon Stewart is a self-proclaimed centrist. And Stephen Colbert is a character actor. Breaking character means career goes bye-bye.
Danyell214 5 years ago
They may go after an individual Democrat occasionally, but they back off attacking liberal policies. I've seen Stewart on numerous interviews defending his true liberal beliefs while bashing Republicans. He is no centrist, whether he claims to be or not. Admitting that he's a liberal would tarnish his "centrist" image, but it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out where both of their loyalties lie.
JonnyLawrence 5 years ago
Are you mad because they have a point-of-view, or mad because it's not a conservative point-of-view?
I do think you're wrong about Jon Stewart not being a centrist. Could it just be that he feels a lot more of the liberal policies make sense? And if that's the case, why would he make fun of something that makes sense?
Danyell214 5 years ago
I'm not mad about anybody's point of view. If Jon Stewart and Colbert believe in liberal policies, they have every right to think that way. I don't like how they pass themselves off as subjective critics of politics. It is apparent to just about everyone else that they are both left wing ideologues. I would just like for them to admit their true colors instead of trying to play me for a fool. It's insulting.
JonnyLawrence 5 years ago
I don't even know what you're talking about anymore. It's not some big mysterious trick that everyone is trying to put over on you. Why and under what circumstances would it even be remotely appropriate for them to stand up and announce their political affiliation? Besides, if they did say they were liberals, you'd probably still call them "pussies" anyway for being liberals.
Though, I don't know what you have against vaginas...
Danyell214 5 years ago
If you don't understand yet after I've explained it here on all these posts, then I guess you just don't get it. Just keep on believing Stewart and Colbert are centrist, objective "comedians".
And sweetheart, if you knew me in person, you'd know from experience how wrong that last little line is.
JonnyLawrence 5 years ago
Listen, honeybunch, using the term "pussy" as an insulting remark is more offensive to womenkind than it is to the men you wish to offend.
And calling women "sweetheart" when engaged in debate with them is more condescending than you deserve to be.
I'm not the one who's confused here, babycakes. You're the one who doesn't understand why it might be bad for someone who makes a living as a character who is a conservative making the announcement, "Btw, I'm actually a liberal."
Danyell214 5 years ago
I am so sorry. You are right. I admit it. Colbert and Stewart are objective comedians with no agenda other than to get a laugh. Am I still your babycakes?
JonnyLawrence 5 years ago
No, I find you icky.
Danyell214 5 years ago
No, you're misinterpretting it. Of course their political view points are expressed through the comedy of their shows, but they aren't cowards. Stewart makes fun of the entire media, both political parties (especially since the dems won congress), and pretty much any idiot who will talk to one of their correspondents.
TarnicUS 5 years ago
They find it funny when they are challenged by real reporters and newscasters about how they report because it's not their job and their still doing it better than the one's asking them. But they have never become cowardly about their opinions, you're making that up, unless you have some sort of evidence.
TarnicUS 5 years ago
I'm saying they're cowards for not admitting what they really are: pro-liberal and anti-conservative. They are liberal mouthpieceses but when somebody points out the obvious, they suddenly become "comedians". I think they are a couple of pussies for not admitting what they truly are: second rate liberal advocates.
JonnyLawrence 5 years ago
When have they said they weren't liberals. Show me where they have said they weren't liberals or have claimed to have no political views or any of these things you seem to have no proof of. Show me a link to a video instead of just spouting speculation.
TarnicUS 5 years ago
I can not stand the hypocrisy liberals cover themselves in but Jonny you are blowing this out of proportion. Other than Dennis Miller name one successful comedian that isn't liberal. Both Stewart and Colbert, while liberal to some degree, remember that they are comedians first and liberals second. If you want to brand someone in the field of comedy a cowardly liberal mouthpiece go find Bill Maher.
88wildcat 5 years ago
I really don't care about colbert or stewart, but I refuse to accept the "but I'm a comedian" defense when they talk about serious issues. Yes they are comedians, but I don't buy that garbage about them not having an agenda. It is clear they do. And I say they are cowards for not admitting this.
JonnyLawrence 5 years ago
their agenda is to make you laugh at the absurdity of the world we live in. and they have a lot of material. if you don't get it, well, you're fooling yourself.

this was the biggest waste of time in the history of television...both o'reilly and colbert sucked on each other's show.

I agree they both sucked on each others' show.

I hate Bill O'Reilly, but I'll give him a little credit for at least playing along with Colbert.

He tried not to - what do you think the whole French / "I talked to your grade-School teacher" thing was about. But he failed, because Stephen kept defusing the situation and coming back with something better.
