  • I never get tired of this. She is amazing!!

  • Giz this is just perfection. Amazing. Full of soul. My jaw dropped! I fall in love with Mariah when I saw for the first time her MTV unplugged. Since then I have seen several performances of her and oh my this is like Randy Jackson said once. She was the second coming of something major. And she was indeed. Bless her.!!

  • She is blessed!

  • Perfect example of an artist that got brainwashed by the fame.

She was so natural back then and then turned into an entirely different person, a worse person.

  • @Sup3rMegaNerd A worse person who happens to donate millions to charity, write inspirational songs till this day, praises God whenever she is given the chance to and has become a wonderful mother of twins. Mariah is better now than she ever was as a person.

  • Mariah the best !! Lambs4ever !

  • why are all the performances of her singing this song in black and white?

  • Actually, I think that the "old" mariah is more about vocal ability, she is GREAT, but sometimes it lacks emotions... Now, she applies more textures on her voice in order to express more feelings to what she sings. So, in my opinion, it's as good (plus she's still able to be amazing live without lyp singing when she's well rested and NOT ACCRO ON CHAMPAGNE !!! XD) But she offers such a huge diversity of stuff that I'm even prouder of her :)

  • @tenebrax She applies textures now thanks to the recording studio magic tricks. She cannot pull off a belting anymore. She now dodges the difficult or hard parts. And if its not that, she lipsynchs to them. Pretty dishonest.

  • @monsteripolo You're probably right. The only thing I don't like about her now is the fact that her voice is so ... nasal ? Don't know if you say that is english ... Hope you get it XD Especially when she's live. But I still think she does great music.

  • @monsteripolo Wow...couldn't be anymore inaccurate!! First of all belting is not the cornerstone of singing....that being said...i guess you didn't hear her new christmas album..or any christmas album performances....very much live..and very much in great voice..say what you wanna say but the girl still has it and she has even sings her christmas hits even better now in some ways...the songs she did for obama's white house christmas special was totally live...you can tell by Maxwell's reaction.

  • @star917 Dont assume that i think belting is the cornerstone of singing. Aside from that, her xmas álbum is clearly manipulated. Just as her past records since RAINBOW. AGAIN: DO NOT ASSUME. i have been a dan since her first single visión of love. Her xmas performances are dubbed and lipsynched on the difficult parts. For gods sake! She even lipped when singing with her mom. Im sorry if you cannot perceive it. But thats the way it is.

  • @monsteripolo I love how you profess that Mariah lip-synched all of her live Christmas performances when she had live bands, choirs and other recording artists on stage with her.

It may seem like Mariah lip-synchs more than everybody else because she's established a reputation of perfection but she doesn't. You also have to remember that Mariah's songs are extremely difficult to sing.

Dubbed is not the same thing as ip-synched.

You're not giving Mariah enough credit.

  • @star917 So there are 2 options. Either you are a blind fanatic or you just cannot notice it. Because the evidence is right there to hear and see.

  • Perfect!!

  • Where is this Mariah now!!!!!!!

  • JESUS!!! WHAT A CONTROLLED VOICE!!! WHAT A POWERFULL VOICE...

    AMAZING MC... LOVE YOU...

    AC.

  • why is this in black an white like she did this in the 1950's lol

  • @KRISTRIP14 lol it looks like she's a really old singer! and like she's a genious or something (she really is a genious in music though) :P

  • the intro was magical.

  • Awe inspiring!!Mariah at the very zenith of her interpretive powers (and what a sight and sound to behold!!)

  • i would love to sing like this!! this is masterpiece!! and the end..beautiful!

  • This performance remembers me of the Aretha Franklin Say A Little Prayer for you performance the set up not saying she's copying her nor comparing the two cause they or own two different levels anywho I love this version better than the studio one

  • the fact that it's in black and white is kinda creeepy LOL.

  • @deonoxivar I actually think it adds to the magic of the entire performance. XD

  • @selujlyrad04 haha yeah. it's just it's almost like a scene from a horror movie hahaha. but hey don't get me wrong, I love this performance.

  • what a voice! I love that extra bit near the end...heavenly

  • @nicevidbro thank you for uploading this video.

  • @milleroh You are welcome!

  • Mariah Carey sounds amazing then and now, Go Mariah!

  • @milleroh Thank you.

Ladies and gentlemen of this page, I think you just witnessed that "milleroh" knows nothing about the subject and her opinions are only based on her personal feelings and fanatism.

  • Again I do not budge on my previous comments made.. I do not argue on the internet because I have a very productive life. I love the video and Mariah's voice today and back in the day. If you dont like that I like Mariah's voice just as much as I did when she first hit the music scene, oh well. THESE ARE OPINIONS and if you cant respect the opinions of others I guarantee you that you will have a tough time getting through life, if that is not already the case.... Go Mariah then, go Mariah now!!

  • @milleroh You might me a college educated woman, but it seems that you are not quite clever when it comes to understanding something you read. AGAIN: nO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT TASTES. The fact here is that she cannot sing like this anymore and she relies on lipsynching when it comes to difficult runs or belting. And that is why you love Mariah now, because YOU DONT KNOW A THING ABOUT MUSIC. Bye.

  • Because I am a college educated woman who works for a top ad firm in Minnesota and I teach art to school children part time I do not choose to argue with people online. If you want to argue and throw insults do it with the millions of teenagers on youtube.

  • @milleroh Quite funny, because you did not say anything at all. It is really great that you teach art for kids, I really respect that. But evidently you do not understand anything about vocal health,or vocal technique,or even musicality at all. So, you left a comment that does not say anything related with the topic under discussion and then you complain about someone replying to you? By the way, no one insulted you. AGAIN: We are here to discuss and learn things from each other. You dont Go away

  • @monsteripolo The best solution to your frustrations with comments people post is to ignore them. Stop responding to my comments if you dont like what

    I write. Thank you.

  • @milleroh AGAIN: You left a comment that does not say anything related with the topic under discussion and then you complain about someone replying to you? you do not understand anything about vocal health,or vocal technique,or even musicality at all. We are here to discuss and learn things from each other. YOU DONT. Bye.

  • As I stated before to all of you people who think that this woman has lost any of her talent check her 20 year career. How many album have you made? How many record execs have called you for a record deal based on your skills as a singer? Who are you? Martin Lawrence said it best. "a critic is someone who cant do what you can so they want to sit around and citicize your shit..."

  • @milleroh You might have a cognitive issue that prevents you to understand what is going on here. This is not a critic, this is a reality, and it is there to hear and see to whoever isnt deaf, blind or fanatic enough. Please, dont ever venture into a REAL vocal discussion if you do not know what you are talking about, have some class about yourself.

  • What a shame she can't sing like this anymore. I feel like everytime I run to check her next live performance I still wait for that shock that used to come over me when I'd hear her live. And every single time I'm pretty much dissapointed, cuz it never comes back. I think the only recent one was I Wanna Know what Love is, live on The View. Her voice was amazing there. But it's hit and miss with her now. I don't even think she knows what days she'll sound good anymore. What an amazing talent.

  • When she was a real singer?? When YOU achieve what this woman has and have a 20 year career with over 15 number 1 hits in that 20 years then you can talk about what a real singer is... Millions of people know that she is and has always a real singer.

  • @milleroh The #1's is not what impresses me. That's just her label pumping money into the radio stations. What impresses me is her talent in these early live performances! Wowww!!

  • @buck78 A lot of people have stated that same thing in reference to her record sales and her talent. I have been a Mariah fan since 1990 and I do not hear much difference at all. I just think that she is an amazing singer who continues to evolve and makes different types of songs now that dont really allow her to streach her vocal range...

  • @milleroh you said "I have been a Mariah fan since 1990 and I do not hear much difference at all."

May I suggest you retain the services of a hearing professional, because based on that statement, i believe you have a hearing deficency, perhaps as severe as Mariah's vocal deficency now compared to 1990.

  • @bradster23420 no hearing aids needed, I love Mariah's voice today, yesterday and years back. Go Mariah!!!!

  • @milleroh my dear lady, I do believe both you and Mariah suffer from the same affliction! I fear you have both indulged in too much of the sweet "Honey", and are now living a "Fantasy", stumbling through fields of "Butterfly" as if in a "Daydream", seeking the end of the "Rainbow" which you believe will "Lead the Way" to your ultimate "Emancipation".

In fact, I wouldnt be surprised if you were Mariah.

Well the real world is calling, so I will leave you both to your delusions of grandeur.

  • She has ALWAYS had perfect teeth :P

  • This was pure, uncontrolled genius!! This is why she is the best vocalist of the common era.

  • @ACsingsBlues2010 She WAS.

  • Mariah..please go back to the singing and get away from this image crap. This is the reason i became a fan of yours when I was 5 years old back in 1990. I used to be able to relate to your music...now it's just senseless crap to satisfy the hip hop masses. Thank you.

  • damn has any1 got this performance in hi quality? this was flawless! amazing!

  • i think this was the best i think ive ever heard her sound. ever.

  • I think this performance was the closest to the original demo because the original demo had a 1950's shuffle to it. That makes this performance all the more astounding

  • what is she doing with her hands

  • LOL wow talk about old school!!!

  • and saying that the way she sings wasnt natural it was really a fucking bullshit !! with this one I laughed a lot too !! OH My God how people can be so retarded ! and stupid !!! dont talk so much about something that you dont know at all !! ok and get a life because I feel pain for ya'll so much pain for ya'll

  • so ya'll need to get a life and turn the fucking page okay???

  • I only see people who talk about something that they dont know !! I only see people who speaks for Mariah !! ya'll talk like you are a doctor of the voice !!! LOL you made me laugh !! Mariah is profesional and she sings like 20 years ok? (I mean since her first album) Mariah didnt lose her voice ! her voice is the same !! the only thing is that she sings diferent styles of music !!! but The voice is the same and powerful !! ok she has a little problems on 2008 but right now it's 2010 ok??

  • @manuelcustodio22 I knew some ignorant was going to post a comment like yours. Please get out of my video and never ever again try to venture into a real and mature musical debate.

  • Stunning! This is the Mariah I loved to listen to.

  • Damaging that it was, I really liked the sound of it. I loved the smoky texture of her voice during the first two eras as well, especially her lower range.

  • I agree. the first 3 or 4 years of her career were her best vocal years. But it's kinda like she lost that huskiness around 94 or 95. But she could still belt very well. After 96 is when she really lost the voice though.

  • which means she still applied what she learned to preserve her voice. Of course I don't know the extent of the training she had; but let's assume she had really good training. This means her decline is solely caused by her nodules, which even with proper technique, she couldn't prevent them from getting worse.

  • Hey!I think the nodules are the main factor. even though you can still notice some flaws on the pre-butterfly era, the deterioration was too drastic and severe. Also the inappropriate use of your voice causes great damage. I mean, just because you can hit a note does not mean that it is healthy for your voice. I think Mariah had a very wide vocal range. But the upper higher notes on her belting were not natural to her, she had to strain, and you can even notice that in her early performances.

  • @nicevidbro If I may ask, what kind of flaws are you referring to; and if possible could you elaborate with an example here on youtube?

During the era spawning her first two albums, I could see/hear that she pulled her chest voice way too high when belting without mixing at all; but she corrected that in subsequent eras. That would've spared her most of the damage had she continued pulling her chest voice that high right?

  • @nicevidbro she is an alcoholic. period

  • @nicevidbro I agree. She definitely didn't sing properly. You can see it in all of her early performances actually. I didn't realize at the time, but when I watch them now, I'm like.. wow.. ouch" It sounds incredible, but you see and hear she's singing improperly. What a shame. She was so incredible!!!

  • @nicevidbro absolutely! +champagne :/ not really good for vocal chords

  • @nicevidbro some other singers have noodles and no problem with their voices but all cases are different. i think we have to add the psychological and emotional side of the story. You know the problems with the marriage, creative control etc... these all could affect her biological well being

  • @mazsolamusic All singers that have nodules have problems with their voices. Even Pavarotti had them removed several times. Singing with nodules is NOT HEALTHY. Also the drinking, the partying, smoky enviroments, and the not sleeping are a major factor. I dont really care anymore about what she does now. You can take her serious now. I am into honest singers now.

  • @monsteripolo yeah a forgot to mention parties as well and drinking. it is a shame that during the daydream era she said she used to drink but at that time never bcuz it affects her voice. shame. well then it happened to her but i think there are many many factors not just the nodles. and sorry for the nodles someone explained it to me and said that many has and though it is not the healthiest it is not so dangerous after all. now i know more,

  • @monsteripolo stop talking like she is a monster now, shes isnt 20 years old anymore but still is one best singers of alltime and like michael jackson her voice changed over the years but i love her then & now! she is just human & not a singing machine who hits high notes 24 hours perfect & you are to honest singer now? name all the singers, they will not even reach even the half of what mariah did. mariah is a legend. get it!!!!

  • @zanaomusic i did not question her being a legend. About what you said, one thing is avoiding high notes because of a sore throat. And another thing is lipsynching EACH AND EVERY difficult part. Get a clue. Shes a fake now.

  • @monsteripolo No matter what you say.I believe Mariah still has it to sing completely live. Take for example, this very song, Mariah has never lipped Vision of LOve ever in hr tours and she last sang it in 2006. Her voice in Christmas in Washington last year sounded so healthy it was like 1990 all over again, even if u think she lipped some of that, her buttery tone, flexibility and vobrato were back in full force. Let's wait and see.

  • @dexterboygenius90 please... its not only her nodules. its the fact that shes a big ass alcoholic

  • @XforeverlongingX I think her excessive drinking has only started recently. And I admit the drinking isn't helping her cause.

Her decline however has been going on since '95. No way she hid a problem like that for so many years. So I'm inclined to disagree.

  • @dexterboygenius90 no it didnt start recently. It started around 97. THAT is when the voice started to decline. 96 she was fantastic

  • @dexterboygenius90 97 is when she was on break then officially divorced in 98. In 97 she was partying like crazy, the voice got worse. u do the math

  • @XforeverlongingX I wasn't aware that she was partying (heavily) in 97. I saw some clips of her singing at SNL and honestly, she sounded almost the same to me , compared to the Daydream era. I can't imagine she partied that heavily for her voice to change that drastically in a matter of months, when she appeared on Divas live later in 98,

And I mentioned 95 as the start of her decline because I found her voice becoming very thin, compared to when she first started out.

  • @dexterboygenius90 Exactly. It kept getting thinner (which I think increased her range a bit but still sounded thin) until it started cracking and she couldn't belt high notes as much anymore. That husky tone in the belting slowly faded and in like 95 or so her belting sounded kind of thin and more girly like.

  • @sanders8323 it's not her voice that got thin it was her belting style. She resonated more in the nose, and learnt to mix better towards the end of '94 so that she could go on tour without damaging her voice.

  • @sanders8323 absolutely!

  • I was wondering; could it be possible that her vocal decline is ONLY due to her nodules? I've been reading up on vocal techniques lately, and I noticed something.

When she belts, her larynx is very relaxed while still producing a powerful sound. If you compare her with Whitney, you can definitely see that Whitney had a very stressed up throat.

Even after Mariah's decline, when she belted you could still see a relaxed throat. This means that she had some semblance of vocal training (cont)

  • @dexterboygenius90 Hahaha. Yes, Whitney indeed has a very stressed up throat when she sings, which just furthered the deterioration of her voice. I don't know what made Mariah's voice change, though. Whitney's, I could cite a lot of possible factors - Mariah's, I could not. Anyway, I love both of these ladies. :)

  • Mariah was & still is one of the greatest vocalists of all time. She doesnt lip nearly as much as peope think. Love you MC.

  • omg that run at the end was amazing!!!

  • Mariah should do another unplugged concert nowadays..just to prove to all the idiots..

  • @Zuzail she did one in 2008 but didn't belt higher than E5 lol. But she hit a C#7.

  • Wow! Tape quality sucks, but Mariah's sound is nothing but pure soul and beauty!!

  • wow wow wow wow is all i can say wow

  • what are you talking about mimi queen of lipsynching? she hardly lip synchs, I've seen her live twice (adventures of mimi & angels advocate) and she hit ALL notes effortlessly LIVE proving shes got it, so dont even say that, she does lip the occasional TV performance like maybe one to every 5 but who dosent nowadays?

  • @MimiDahhling30 And you think because you saw her it means that it was all live? No. She does lipsynch the difficult parts of her songs, specially the newer ones. Evidently you cannot notice it.

  • @nicevidbro Yeah, she lip synchs A LOT nowadays. Very sad, but true. :(

  • @nicevidbro She does lipsynch more nowadays, but what do you expect? She's been singing nonstop for the past 20 years, I'm sure her vocal chords are worn out a bit... she still sings live on most songs, usually the less difficult ones. But back in the 90s, early 90s especially, she hardly ever lipsynched. I mean, everyone has to now and then because of vocal strain. But there's no way anybody can deny her incredible talent.

  • @awesomeashley2010 LEts see if you get this: She still composes songs that are impossible for her to sing completely live. So then, she lipsynchs to it? Why keep composing songs for a voice that you do not have anymore? She wants people to say "ohh, listen how great! she still sings the same and even better" For Christ sake! get a clue.

  • @monsteripolo Actually she composes songs that are a lot easier to sing.... Obsessed, Touch My Body? They seem not too difficult to me. She mostly lipsynches when she performs her older songs. And uh duh, of course she wants people to think she can sing better than what she can. I realize that! She cannot sing as near as well as she did 15 years ago. So, what's your point?

  • @awesomeashley2010 Aha. Obsessed, Touch my body, and? Lets see, against all odds (cover), cant take that away, through the rain, its like that, Stay the night, mine again, fly like a bird, we belong together, I stay in love, your girl, I wish you well, to name a few. She lipsynchs to all those songs, she switches between live and lipsynch. In the musical world that is called being a fake. So, please read your first comment and let me know what is YOUR point?

  • @monsteripolo You call a 5 octave range a fake? My point is that she is the best selling female artist of all time and a woman born with an extraordinary talent. Yeah she switches between live and lipsynching. Her vocal chords are worn down and she has a HUGE reputation to live up to! My personal opinion is that she should've just left her legacy and stopped after Rainbow, although Emancipation of Mimi is a great album. Irreguardless, she HAD an incredible voice!

  • @awesomeashley2010 thats the point she is very talented!!! one of the most talented persons ever..she is more talented than many other artists whose popularity is higher..but........artists like Madonna (she is ok but personally dont like her) and clowns like Gaga unfortunately overshine...

  • @MsEutz Agreed! Their talent is more of entertaining an audience (although they can sing to a degree), but Mariah was born with a very rare amazing voice

  • @awesomeashley2010 You keep misleading everything I say. First, Mariah does not have a 5 octave range anymore. Hence, faking your voice due sound engineering to make it sound like you do, that is called FAKE. So do not come here with all your PR garbage. She is not the biggest selling female artist of all time either. She is ONE of the ones, probably 3rd or 4th. Wake up.

  • @monsteripolo Actually she IS the best selling female artist of all time, 200 million albums sold... Madonna is the only other other artist right up there, look it up. And stop misleading what I say! I never said or implied that she still has this amazing voice! I've said all along that her vocal chords are worn out and that she can't sing like she used to, but that she was born with an incredible voice... why do you want to argue so much?

  • @awesomeashley2010 Sorry, but you are completely wrong. She is not THE best selling, but ONE OF the ones. Not so hard to find that information. Check wikipedia, based on Universal claims:

"Carey has sold more than 175 million albums, singles and videos worldwide, making her one of the world's best-selling music artists"

I do not want to argue, but please! At least investigate a little bit before posting. I know that reading this sounds like I am angry or something!

  • Comment removed

  • @awesomeashley2010 If you look carefully to any Wikipedia article, it has quotes on them. Those quotes need to be validated in order to publish the article. So, yes. It IS valid, specially when those claims are based on Universal's official report. Mariah is NOT the biggest selling female of all time, but one of them.Madonna is the biggest one.Do you REALLY believe that the world music awards are real? Mariah also recieved the best-selling female pop artist of the millennium, do believe that also?

  • @monsteripolo Actually I was going by what Sony stated, & Madonna's sales aren't accurate as Nielsen Soundscan didn't keep record sales until 1991. But wrong or right, 1st or 2nd, irreguardless Mariah's at least "one of the best selling female artists" which is quite an accomplishment to me. She's considered the best by critics because in her decade shorter career her sales are up there with Madonna's. Mariah's already had more #1s than any solo artist & is the top selling artist of the 90s

  • @awesomeashley2010 Oh who gives a FUK..."1st" or "2nd" or whatEVER!!!!She's made some incredible records AND written them...done some astounding live performances also (along with all the rest of the shit she's done in her career) why can't people just enjoy who the fuk they WANT to enjoy and get on with it!!All this "who sold how many albums" crap...is just that...CRAP!!

  • @TheMrMarilyn You know what, you're right. :) I got too caught up with this person arguing with me.

  • @monsteripolo WHO FUKKIN CARES!!!!Same reply here as to awesomeahley2010

  • @TheMrMarilyn Please, have some class about yourself and stay quiet if you do not what you are talking about.

  • INCREDIBLE this is one of her best performances

  • Wonderful performance, I just love it.

  • OMG this is old! LOL

This song is a classic, everybody knows this song. Even Non-Mariah fans :D

Definitely the Best Pop Vocal Performance for a female. Mariah deserved that Grammy for real!

  • danm!!!! how u get dis archive stuff????

  • omg i love the extra bit at first and in the end !!!

  • i love that extra bit at the end!!! MC you are the greatest!

  • That last run...... OMG!!!!

  • Mariah should do a full acapella or unplugged concert once more nowadays to shut the hell out of whoever thinks that she's lipsync..

  • FLAWLESS! :) thank you so much for posting this! :) :)

  • That's BULL SHIT Mariah does not lip sync!. At 19 she could out sing anyone out there. A women's body changes so 19 the voice is strong. In Mariah's case in her 40's SHE CAN STILL OUT SING ANYONE OUT THERE. Not to mention the songs she sings are very hard & she does not need to dance around a stage like a mook her voice does the entertaining & the audience then & now love her!

  • @chevelless70 I could not have said it better myself

  • @chevelless70 hahah. I would agree with you up to 1998 when she went into heartbreaker. Her voice changed, so she compensated by changing her image and showing more of her body. But she can definitely cover up still now and belt a good song if she really wants. But because she sings so much, she does do a lot of lip synching to save her voice for certain songs.. it's sad.. but true. :-)

  • Mariah still performs live.

  • And I'm starting to believe that she's lipping the bridge (especially the sustained note) during Hero as well. Those notes sounds suspiciously the same every time she does that song.

  • Yes. She does lipsynch those parts in Hero.

  • That's just sad.

  • @nicevidbro ok guys i've had enough......Mariah can still sing......and i do mean Mimi can still sing better then most people out there......And i am a mariah fanactic......BUT intelligent and a fellow musician........so i have to back what i say......CHECK OUT VISION OF LOVE"BET" PERFORMANCE FOR EOM.......if you can do that after so many years.....then i will shut up.......aint nothin wrong with mariah..just need to take of her voice and know her limits.

  • @star917 I just listened to it. It's funny.. the notes are still there.. it just sounds like someone ripped through them with paper. It's a faded voice, but it's there!

  • totally since 1997

  • @dexterboygenius90

Of course she lips those notes. Since last year.

  • @dexterboygenius90 She's never lip synched hero, not even during her vocal decline. In fact, you can hear the difference in all of the bridge. Mariah said herself that the song is too close to her heart and has a good meaning and she believes fans should hear it live.

  • @TheDeathsAdvocate Mariah said that Hero is one of the least favorite songs she has ever written. She only performs it because its a fan favorite/classic.

  • @Scanned But she admitted that she started to like it after she performed it a few times, and believed everyone deserved to hear the message. Furthermore, you can tell that she's only lipped it once in her entire career

  • People, her voice is REALLY in terrible condition. Y'all should check out clips of her on tour (which I thought was a bad idea to start with anyway); even the whistles (which we thought was the only part of her voice that was intact) are pre recorded or worse, taken directly from the album cut (i.e. Emotions)

  • @dexterboygenius90 before you start making claims......check out Vision of Love "bet" performance.....this is Mimi....That was totally live.....dexter....what now? she aint got talent no more?

  • On the contrary. Talent, she has plenty of that and always will because she was born with that. Her voice however, is fading fast.

P.s. : I thought her VOL performance @ BET was outstanding.

  • I knew you meant that, but when I watch the bits that you think she switches, everything matches up so well I have to think its genuine. If she slipped up sometime, then I'd believe you, but she hasn't done that yet so I can't understand why you're so sure.

  • Well, maybe you just cant percieve it.

  • Evidence? Well for me the lip movements, facial expressions and body language always match up perfectly, so I have no idea how you came to these conclusions. If you're right then she must be the world's best ever lipsyncher. Like I said look at her top of the pops performances, that is what lipsynching looks like. Its just her voice is inconsistent, but even when its good its nowhere near perfect, so I don't get why people come up with these theories in the first place.

  • Im not talking about full lipped performances Im talking about her trying to fool the public. It is clear that you cannot notice it. Maybe is confusing for you because she switches from live to lipsynch on the difficult parts.

  • @nicevidbro agreed. I dont know why she sings certain parts and not others... Well I know why.. but it's weird that she thinks people won't realize. It just ends up sounding weird. I'd rather she changes the notes around to work with what she's got left instead of switching to a recording. It feels deceiving. I like when she changes notes anyway, cuz it creates something new to the song!

  • i'm sur that some people thinkin' it was prerecorded lol some people will even find lipsching lol

  • Nope. The evidence is right there to hear and see to whoever isnt blind, deaf or fanatic enough.

  • I think people just refuse to believe that she can still sing. If she has a bad performance they say shes lost her voice, but if she has a good performance they say shes lipsyncing. Its just that after 20 years of oversinging and vocal nodules, her voice is getting more difficult to look after so she has more 'off' days than before. Besides, there are few others who could sing her songs, you gotta give it to her for taking risks. And even if she has lipped, its still her voice you're hearing.

  • I just watched the most recent performances of the songs you mentioned, they seemed 100% live to me, you can always tell the subtle differences from the studio version. Which performances are yu talking about? Its always obvious when somebody does it, try typing in 'Mariah Carey TOTP' now thats lipsyncing. She only did it because they used to make people do it on that show.

  • Of course you can tell the differences from the studio version, she is not stupid. She usese aternate takes that didnt make it to the album. Im talking about all the performances of ALL those songs I named. And about your comment "its still her voice youre hearing" Thats the most antimusical comment Ive read. Let me tell you that inside the studio, you can do magic. Her latests albums are highly manipulated. She cannot sing live like she does on her records anymore.

  • How exactly is she the queen of lipsynching? she always performs live even when her voice isn't in good condition. That title belongs to Britney Spears.

  • Sorry, but she USED TO perform always live. Now she always lipsynchs the difficult parts specially on her newer songs since the rainbow era. She always lipsynch the big note on Cant take that away, against all odds, the final part of subtle invitation, the final part of Through the rain, the final part of dont forget about us, the final part on I stay in love and a lot more.

  • Nicevidbro, you hit the nail on the head. Mariah couldn't pull this kind of performance off for anything today. She's too embedded in this diva persona, using rappers on her songs to cover up her burnt-out voice. Miss the old Mariah, Mimi is what we get when Tommy Mottola's not running the show.

  • @mermaidofsuburbia Mimi is who she actually is when she wasn't being abused by Tommy Mottola, if you'd rather her be bullied and abused and tormented and controlled instead of being a free individual then I pity you.

  • I totally agree with you!

  • She didn't get to enjoy her sucess!

  • I actually blame Motolla for Mariah's burnt out voice ... her voice seriously began changing after all the extreme pressure he set on her to just record songs and sing sing sing 20-4-7 ...that helps to loose discipline and care of ur voice and sooner or later the more u push it to the limit and want to excess to the maximum ur voice will suffer somehow. Her chest vocals were strong but became less secure e a bit scratchy ... her breathy voice rolled in and the whister miracously remained.

  • Then plus: as u get older voice naturally changes so besides all the changes noted back during the daydream butterly period for whatever reasons (she was only in her 20s so) at the age of 40 she still can impress with her voice but that depends on the repertoire. Too many uptempo songs like Obsessed or Touch My Body are so fast sung and so studio coordinated that it's hard to get them live that easily. Mariah does her best with smoother and slower songs. But i think she thinks otherwise ...
