  • Jordanian, Lebanese, Turks also cluster closer to Assyrians,(( but not as strong as the Iraqi Arab or Kurds,))

The Genetics of Modern Assyrians and their Relationship to Other People of the Middle East

by Dr. Joel J. Elias - Professor (Emeritus), University of California School of Medicine, San Francisco

Posted: Thursday, July 20, 2000 11:55 am CS

this was a portion of the arcticle

  • References and Footnotes

  • Cavalli-Sforza, L.L., Menozzi, P. and Piazza, A. The History and Geography of Human Genes. 1994. Princeton University Press. Unabridged Edition. As above, Abridged Paperback Edition. 1996. Contains the text of the Unabridged Edition, but not the hundreds of pages of genetic maps; has an index, and references to literature that were cited in the text.

  • Only the unabridged version has the references for research articles that were used to arrive at each population group's genetic analysis, listed by name for each population; also, the tables of gene frequencies. 2a. Cavalli-Sforza, L.L. Genes, Peoples, and Languages. 2000. North Point Press (division of Farrar, Straus and Giroux), New York. The book is a summation of the author's work written for the general reader

  • What is intersting the Assyrians are very close to their Muslim neighbours in Iraq,Jordan, and Lebanon, well those of Bedouin origins are more related to the Saudis and Yemenites. Also the Saudi, Yemenite, and Bedouins form their own Caucasoid minor cluster which seperates them from other Middle Easterners and Europeans being an almost isolate sub-racial group.

  • The Bedouins like the Gypsies in Europe, differ in their genetic makeup from their host populations, and show a direct link to Arabia. Well Iraqis being the closet people to modern day Assyrians, showing that Arabization of Iraq was in fact a lingusitic and cultural transition, however their was also the breif peroid of Persianization. Then its followed by Jordanians and Lebanese.(((

  • The Iraqi Kurds are very close to Assyrians in their genetic makeup, and probably have shifted into an Iranic tongue.))) Thus all groups in Iraq decent from a common ancester with a limited gene flow from various male invaders, who intermarried with the local female population. Jordanian, Lebanese, Turks also cluster closer to Assyrians,((( but not as strong as the Iraqi Arab or Kurds))), showing again their common genetic ancestery

  • However, it soon became apparent that the CMH is not specific to Jews or descendants of Jews. In a 1998 article in Science News, Dr. Skorecki indicated (in an interview) that some non-Jews also possess the Cohen markers, and that the markers are therefore not "unique or special".(((((( The CMH is very common among Iraqi Kurds, according to a 1999 study by C. Brinkmann et al.))))))))))

  • And in her 2001 article, Oppenheim wrote: "The dominant haplotype of the Muslim Kurds (haplotype 114) was only one microsatellite-mutation step apart from the CMH..." (Oppenheim 2001, page 1100). Furthermore, the CMH is also found among some Armenians,

  • according to Dr. Levon Yepiskoposyan (Head of the Institute of Man in Yerevan, Armenia), who has studied genetics for many years. Dr. Avshalom Zoossmann-Diskin wrote: "The suggestion that the 'Cohen modal haplotype' is a signature haplotype for the ancient Hebrew population is also not supported by data from other populations." (Zoossmann-Diskin 2000, page 156)

  • In short, the CMH is a genetic marker from the northern Middle East which is not unique to Jews. However, its existence among many Kurds and Armenians, as well as some Italians and Hungarians, would seem to support the overall contention that Kurds and Armenians are the close relatives of modern Jews and that the majority of today's Jews have paternal ancestry from the northeastern Mediterranean region.

  • Iraqi Kurds In human genetics, Haplogroup J (previously known as HG9 or Eu9/Eu10) is a Y-chromosome DNA haplogroup.

In human genetics, Haplogroup J (previously known as HG9 or Eu9/Eu10) is a Y-chromosome DNA haplogroup. It is one of the major male lines of all living men. It is divided into two main branches referred to as J1 and J2. wikipedia))))

  • The relationship of the five modal haplotypes that were found in the six populations is presented in figure 3. The most-frequent haplotype in all three Jewish groups (the CMH [haplotype 159 in the Appendix]) segregated on a Eu 10 background, together with the three modal haplotypes in Palestinians and Bedouin (haplotypes 144, 151, and 166).(((

  • The dominant haplotype of the Muslim Kurds (haplotype 114) was only one microsatellite-mutation step apart from the CMH and the modal haplotype of the Bedouin, but it belonged to haplogroup Eu 9. )))The three modal haplotypes in the Palestinians and Bedouin were entirely restricted to the two Arab populations.

  • On the other hand, chromosomes with the modal haplotypes of the Jews and of the Muslim Kurds were observed in all the populations except the Bedouin. The three Jewish communities had many additional haplotypes in common with Muslim Kurds (table 3). They shared more haplotypes and chromosomes with Muslim Kurds than with either Palestinians or Bedouin.

  • medes(kurds) & chaldeans (Prophet Abraham PBH was chaldean)

Nebuchadnezzar II was the eldest son, and successor, of Nabopolassar, who delivered Babylon from its dependence on Assyria and laid Nineveh in ruins

  • According to Berossus, some years before he became king of Babylon, ((((Nebuchadnezzar II married Amytis of Media, the daughter or granddaughter of Cyaxares, king of the Medes, and thus the Median and Babylonian dynasties were united

  • )))))) There are also conflicting accounts of Nitocris of Babylon either being his wife or daughter. Nabopolassar was intent on annexing the western provinces of Syria from Necho II (who was still hoping to restore Assyrian power),

  • and to this end dispatched his son westward with a powerful army. In the ensuing Battle of Carchemish in 605 BC, the Egyptian army was defeated and driven back, and Syria and Phoenicia were brought under the control of Babylon. Nabopolassar died in August of that year, and Nebuchadnezzar returned to Babylon to ascend to the throne.

After the defeat of the Cimmerians and Scythians

  • (((( all of Nebuchadnezzar's expeditions were directed westwards, although the powerful Median empire lay to the north. Nebuchadnezzar's political marriage to Amytis of Media, the daughter of the Median king, had ensured peace between the two empires.)))))))))))))) from wikipdeia

  • Madai ibn Yam(Japheth)

    According to the Book of Jubilees (10:35-36), Madai had married a daughter of Shem, and preferred to live among Shem's descendants, rather than dwell in Japheth's allotted inheritance beyond the Black Sea;

  • so he begged his brothers-in-law, Elam, Asshur and Arphaxad, until he finally received from them the land that was named after him, Media.

Another line in Jubilees (8:5) states that a daughter of Madai named Milcah married Cainan, who is an ancestor of Abraham also mentioned in older versions of Genesis

  • (what is mentioned is the truth because it is the Kurds who are living with the semitic people Arameans,Syrians,Assyrians and other Arabian people and they are mostly j2 ydna which is semitic

  • did you know the iraqi kurds have 28.4%j2 and 11.6% j1 thats about 40% semitic heritage they and the iraqi arabs cluster the closest to the assyrians which is most likely the arameans

  • Its hard to love some one who killed 500,000 Of my Kurdish brothers and sisters

  • @kurdishleader Its more like a fiction. You kurds can only dream but reality is no kurdstan.IIts funny how your telling iraqis to go back to arabia when your not even native iraqi but native iranian you dumb goat eater.By the way from dna studies it showed that modern day iraqi arabs are not arabs or not 100% arabs and many of them are in fact natives to this land. Also it was tested that iraqi arabs are closer to near eastern and europe genetic dna makeup rather then the saudi arabs.

  • @kurdishleader HAHAHAH habibi its 2011 and iraq is still the same and you kurds are still giving awesome oral sex to america so they can occupy three northern iraqi cities.LOL,the funny part swety you only control three cities.Only three when northern iraq is much bigger then that.So how can you make your fiction country you never had with only three cities. If you think of iranian, turkey, and syrian land then your fucking stupid.Cause they would rip your asses into pieces.

  • @kurdishleader So would you care to explain to me what the fuck is fuckinstan and where did it exist???????LOL,AHHAAHHAHAH,LOL,HAHAHHA oh wait goat eater you never had a country.AHHAHAHA goat eater your people are gpyies of the middle east scattred from one country to the next. And also your people are getting used by foriegn countries. But its funny too cause america, isreal, and any country doesn't give a fuck about your people.HAHAH no one does.Your unwanted sweety.

  • @kurdishleader AHAHA you can only dream, and dream, and dream until your death bed.Oh well wait until the after life and maybe god himself would be nice enough to give you a country. But you have to wait and see if you go to heaven or hell.HAHHAHAH moron.Fuck you and fuck your fiction country fuck your donkey lizards fuck your goat eater pkk.Fuck your people.

  • @kurdishleader LOL visa???????????actually no they don't.You know why???cause its there country and iraqis can go to northern iraq because its our land and its part of iraq and it will always be.Also my uncle went to northern iraq without a visa and many iraqis went without one.LOL,visa?????ahhahahaah you don't have a fucking country for people to enter.Your still part of iraq. Not a fiction country. You dont have a country but your only controlling three northern iraq cities.

  • @kurdishleader Baghdad's government still has control of it.Your people can't make any decisions without the government in baghdad's approval.Get a fucking life goat eater and stop claiming northern iraq cause its iraqi land for all iraqi people.Stop living in this fiction and imaginary world. You will never see a kurdistan in your life and it will never happen.majority of iraqis will fight you and fuck you before you even dare to take any land.

    FACT!!!

  • @kurdishleader Even america mentioned that a kurdistan will never exist.HAHAHAHAAHAHHAHAHAH goat eater is only good on going on youtube and talking out of his ass by saying shit that he doesn't understand.

  • Kurds are 52 million, we have lived in Kurdistan for 5000 years. Kurdistan is not Iraq, Iraqis need Visa to enter KURDISTAN :) Arabs go back to S.Arabia

  • @kurdishleader I keep reading ur comments on every single video with the name IRAQ on it and u keep repeating the same shit everytime..If u hate Iraq that much why do u keep watching these videos man??? is it just to comment in ur hatred way and to provoke others to argue with u?? you really need psychiatric help man..

btw I don't wanna dignify u with an argument but just wanna tell u....

    GET A LIFE

  • @kurdishleader LOL you don't have a kurdistan. You never did and you never will. What made you think iraqis will let you take our land away????????northern iraq is iraqi land and it will be part of iraq. You kurds can go back to iran and fight for a country.LOL,kurdistan?????what kind of place is that??????it sure was never mentioned in any history books. Not iraq and not the western history books.Do you know why????its simple.because a kurdistan never had existed EVER.

  • @Arabchick18 3la keifich 3al rejal...

  • No we are not iraqis we are just assyrians for god sake! You are not the creators of civilizations,we assyrians are.

  • I don't think you know much about history neither about the (Sumerians, first civilization on earth) why don't you go do your studies, before talk to me about the creators of civilization!!don't make a fool of yourself man next time use reply so I know you are talking to me

  • bush was a christian pig like you.and the abbasid caliphes made an empire so massive it streched from spain to the gates of china.and baghdad was the capital of enlightment and modern scince.

  • iraq is the land of civilisation , assyrians , baylonians , ur and many many more all of us lived in the land of the 2 rivers so shut the fuck up and stop trying to split iraqis who lived on the same land for thousadns of years

  • the ancient messopotamians called themselves Uruks, thats were the name iraq comes from ;) now stop hating muslims

  • @OrthodoxPower1987 assyraians have ancient history in iraq but don't forget you guys weren't the first to settle here to claim it for you before you came the bablyonians and sumerians. by the way not all arabs came from forien lands to the land of iraq dna tests prove that marsh arabs in southern iraq have ancestory to the ancient sumerians but they just became some what arabtized

  • Yes there is difference we are christians and arabs are muslims. If we were the same then why would muslim arabs kill my people in Iraq especielly the saudi terrorists tell me.

  • arab kills your brothers?they don't kill Muslims to? Let me blam the invasion on the Christians to!!So I can sound like you. Man get real don't sound like a child I agree with you there are savages killing Iraqis regardless of their believes we are Iraqis Sumerians assyrians Babylonians we are the creators of civilizations we are the history of humanity I have no beef with you whosoever I just didn't like you insulted Iraqis that's all pray with me may God save them and bless them all peace

  • as far as i'm concerned, islam and christianity didn't exist before the 1st century AD, and not all arabs are muslims, the good thing is that you should be proud to be iraqis, because you were the first to discover astrology, medicine ect ect before greeks, greeks discovered it from babylons, even history says so ;)

  • NO you retard, Assyrians and Arabs both are Semitics..sons of Shem..which makes us the same blood..just a different languages..even Arabic is descendent from Aramaic.

  • If all iraqis are assyrians why do you call yourself arab, kurd etc?

  • Assyrians for life screw iraqis!

  • IRAQ doesn't need you neither all Iraqis are Assyrians all of them belong to Babylon all of them are Sumerian!! the creators of civilization who are you?? Nobody just a human waste liveing somewhere far away from the ones who still hold on to their country and history

  • are arabs in iraq consider assyrian too?

if not why they claim to own iraq

  • saudi arabiabs say there is no difference between an arab and an assyrian

  • viva Iraq

  • i hate the fucking kurds, Assyrians, Iraqi Turkmen and others???

i wish iraq was only shia.

  • i am shia and you a really embarrasing!

  • if you are shia , would'nt you want all muslima's to ware jihab??

or has this nothing to do with it?

    (Honoust question!)

  • it has nothing to do with it!!!

You dont have to cover up to be a muslim, whu dont you just understand that not all muslims are the same!

  • "not all muslims are the same! "

i do, so please don't insult my intelligence ;-)

I just didn't know if being shia or suni had something to do with it or not.

so what IS causing muslima to cover up or not??

Just want to say this : Its all the time "WE, the muslims" So its mostly muslism themselves that don't make the difference. Don't be surprise then, if others easilly say : "THEM, the muslism"

If ur smart, you will understand why i am saying this, without getting mad ;-))

  • why do nuns cover up? Why did Mary, mother of Jesus cover up? Does this mean that all the women who dont cover up and say they are christian are actually not christian? Do you understand what kind of question you are asking? If you were a christian wouldnt u want your women to cover up like Mary did? NO, because you know it does not matter, everyone follows their faith their own way. some covered women are worse than non covered women and vice versa. Its all about Iman or Faith !

  • "why do nuns cover up"

because they live in a convent or community with certain rules..and they are god's "brides"; so: for reason of rules

Mary :because she was jew like the very first christians. But then it dissapeard, as they weren't actually jew anymore.

    So again for clear rules

In Islam there seems to be more rules than in Chriatianity about it.

So i just wondered if it has anything to do wit shia or sunni.

So please don't bite my nose if I do wonder and show some interest.;-)

  • "Do you understand what kind of question you are asking?" I do ask it because no muslim gives the same answer;-)

Of course i agree myself that it doesn't matter. But then for the millions of muslim immigrants in Europe it really DOES matter/ A LOT !! and they even riot about on he streets it and want to change laws for it. And the ones who are not covered - muslima's or not- are called whores by the muslims...many muslima's that are not covered are even beaten. THAT's why i kindly asked.

  • Im sorry i was not trying to be rude.

I dont know what is wrong with those muslims because it does not say anywhere in the Quran that if a women doesnt cover up she should be punished. Nowhere. So these ignorant uneducated extremists have no right to beat them, for all they know, those nonhijabis could be angels, so shame on them. I have seen all kinds of hijabis and nonhijabis here in the US and i realized the outer appearance makes no difference, Importance is your upbringing and your faith.

  • Muslims in Europe are under influence of really extreme wahabi.

Probably because we translate tolerance into "accepting and appeasing anyone without limits".

e.g. last, in Brussels there was a 17 y old muslim who raped a 13 y old girl on her way to school for rweks. When the police found out and arrested him, he was surprised , because the Imam had said it was OK to rape a Kaffir girl......(contin...)

  • So he's still convinced he was put in jail for no reason, and filed a comlaint for racism against the police who picked him up. The complaint is BEING EXAMINATED!

there must be other muslims like you living here, but they are invisible, and don't stand up as you would.

Don't be surprised Europeans will see Islam, like those Wahabi muslims practice it: If they would continue to say "not all muslims are like that, they would blind themselves 2 much for the others and lose their selfprotection.

  • I live in a small country with 11 mijl inhabitants and 1miljj muslims. Every week there is an incident, and 95% of the cases it involves muslims stabbing non muslims. Last week even 2! 1 who stabebd 3 policemen, and 1 very classic incident where a city muslimgang went to the country to a festivity, to "have some tempting educated locals to a fight" and stab someone, before they dissapear in the city again.

"Not all muslims are the same" is resonable, but becomes dangerous in such situations.

  • i do, so please don't insult my intelligence ;-)

I just didn't know if being shia or suni had something to do with it or not. your intelligence?

If you know something about islam, you must know there is no difference between the shi3a and sunna. islam is shi3a ans sunna. so the answer for your questions is NO.

  • hotiraqis

My intelligence yes, ..to know that not all people ( like all muslims) are the same, .

"If you know something about ."

To know is not to be intelligent. Intelligence is what you do with your knowledge.

"no difference between the shi3a and sunna."

Many muslims said to me before there IS a BIG difference between shia and sunni and sad I am "ignorant" if i don't know that.

And then you come and say there is none..

Wich leads me to think it's muslism that don't know ....

  • SHut fuck up dum count Assyria is our Contreeeee

  • i can't believe that u could say something this stupid,

    & u r embarrasing!

  • Beautifull children! God Bless!

  • allahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • عراقيه!

  • Very very nice video. Long live all the beautiful people of Iraq.

  • well produced and a great interpretation on how most iraqis feel...

    Atheer

  • Thank you for your comment .. I truly know that Kurds are an independent people .. Just as much as the Palestinians are not Israeli for example .. I realize that Kurds live in what's today known as Iraq/Iran/Turkey/Syria etc .. However, I cannot do a video about Iraq without recognizing the Kurdish people! I hope I managed to explain myself.

  • SomeOneWhoCanSee

I appreciate your candid statement. I beleive, the proper name for Iraq should probably be Babylon or Sumeria; Anything but the name a foregin power decided to give it back in 1920 with the British Mandate of Mesopotamia; the latter, created the current map of the Middle East of which has little historical parallel.

Some will say Iraq was used back 1000 years ago or longer, still that term does not do justice to it's history. So let Iraqis be proud that they are Baylonian.

  • Thank you for the insight my dear friend!

  • Actually, Iraq's 'local' name was not Babylon. Babylon & Mesopotemia are what the Greeks use to call that region, the local Inhabitants used to call their land as 'Uruk'.. from which the name "Iraq" is derived. I think "Iraq" is fine, why should Iraqi's use Greek word?.

If someone can't relate Iraq & Mesopotemia together, then its their ignorance. Many regions have 2 names. Deutcheland is local name of Germany, 'Hellas' is local of Greece. 'Iran' is local name (now international) of Persia.

  • @someonewhocansee I think what makes Iraq.. Iraq ... is it's diversity... so let's celebrate that , as an Iraqi individual living abroad it makes me proud to have kurds as members of Babylonia....

  • @rantasoya please we are all iraqi doesn't matter arab kurd assyrain turkmen or chaldean i will fight for you all of you. north iraq does not belong to kurds it belons to all iraq. historacly kurds came from central iran and setteld in the historal lands of the assyrain. so it truly belongs to the assyrians not kurds. but i have no problem of you living there because iraq is made of blend of many cultures and people much like america. we been living together for thousands of years in peace

  • @rantasoya I'm Kurdish and I'm proud... but the Iraqi Kurds live in Iraq and therefore are classed as one of the Iraqi people.

  • @rantasoya kurdistan never existed and never will you understand it has always been mespotima iraq. kurds were invaders from iran go learn history ok

  • would like to see more like this from Iraq
