I work in a Theatre as a lighting technician, our lasers are 300mW Blue and 50mW Green, we dont need licenses for any of our lasers. Your talking absolute crap. The only thing close to what your saying, is that Ebay banned the sale of anything above 1mW. You dont need licenses at all. If that true the police should takeaway your DVD player, because the laser inside that is more than 1mW.

Bouncing light back into the laser isn't in and of itself terribly bad. That's how the laser in fact works. The lasing medium is surrounded by a mirror in one end and a half transparent mirror in the other. Then it's pumped by an energy source and the laser bounces inside it.

But blocking the exit with a mirror means the energy never escapes, so it just bounces around until something gives out from the heat generated.

@onelifelefttodie You burn out the diode, and the laser breaks. This is actually a major concern with higher powered fiber optic lines. You need to use special connections in them to prevent laser light from reflecting back down the line and burning out your source.
