  • If you dont know much about hobbits, watch my video (it explains the much)

    youtube.com/user/MostEpicMovieClips?feature=mhee

  • What is he saying? I am unsure at James McAvoy right now?

  • what Peter Jackson was the best!! :S he had better do it like the book :l

  • ok but this guy step down from the project, its just peter jackson directing it

  • @KulakxFilms How do you know that? Sorry, I am not saying I don't believe you but it is quite a hefty claim, or am I just missing something very obvious xD

  • @KulakxFilms Yeah, too bad McAvoy got dropped but the new guy does look more like Ian the older Bilbo.

  • This!... is!...LOTR!!! dont screw up

  • @Nerinkh Actually this is the hobbit not the lord of the rings

  • No, Damn it! They should get an unknown cast like they did in LOTR Instead of these pre-existing jokes. One important key to LOTR's success was the cast was perfectly fitted for their roles, because most the actors aren't tied to any well known past performances. Thus they couldn't be judged based on their previous projects and made the movies that much more epic.

  • @VioletteChevre Lots of the cast are respected actors who have bin in big well known roles..

  • OMG NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

He made movies too childish!! omg we are doomed!!

Well...maybe not... but the movie might be.

  • @BasaraPK Check out Toro's "Pan's Labirinth"...

  • dont fuck it up or alot of ppl will hunt u down hellboy sucked so bad lotr didint so.... DONT FUCK UP -.-

  • Well, Guillermo del Toro left the production this past May...so Peter Jackson is producing, co-writing AND directing this movie! It's still in pre-production, it seems, but it looks like things are finally getting under way.

  • I wouldn't mind to see Gullermo Shirtless ;-)

  • I really hope it turns out to be great movie. It would be really disappointing if it wasn't after how amazing the Lord of the Rings trilogy was.

  • thank God that Peter is, at least involved, itbecause it wouldn't be the same without him

  • del toros not doing it now is he ?

  • As much as I adore James McAvoy, I don't like the idea of him playing Bilbo. I think one of the many reasons that Lord of the Rings was so successful was that there weren't really any huge actors in there. Don't get me wrong, some were obviously well known, like Hugo Weaving, Ian Mckellen etc, but still not exactly 'A-List' regarded.

I prefer the idea of a new-coming actor for Bilbo, as the audience wont be hyped up just because of a 'huge name', and can concentrate more on the film itself.

  • @EditorTasha

    Agreed competely

  • Anybody who thinks Guillermo Del Toro is gonna screw The Hobbit up, has not seen enough of his movies. The man is brilliant. He's a great story teller. He is working well within his genre of films and has perhaps made some innovations in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy genre.

  • This guy is retarted he said that peter jackson created the Lotr world! fuck no its JRR tolkien dipshit!

  • Why the hell we need a different Bilbo Baggins other than Ian Holm? I mean when he finds the Ring, is Ian Holm, and after all those years he hasn't grown older I mean told by Gandalf himself! So why the hell do we need to show him, quite younger, that has no sense!

  • @NickRiviera10

Well, Bilbo Baggins hasn't grown older, but Ian Holm did.

He is too old to play Bilbo in the Hobbit movie, that guy

turns 80 in the next Year ;)

But yes, it would've been amazing if Ian Holm could play Bilbo.

  • I thought that Del Toro announced the cancellation of this film?

  • @Maskedhaven Guillermo announced he wasn't going to direct it anymore because they would have needed him for 2 more years than they had originally agreed upon. if you looked at the description, you would see that this video was made in 2008, when Guillermo was signed on.

  • URG WHY ADSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!????? youtube partners are so greedy there here to make VIDEOS not a CAREER!

  • Okey, i need to ask this

Can somebody tell me if someone is going to make a new movie of The Lords Of The Rongs?

I'm about to cut my balls for the happines of the new movie of LOTR...

  • @HeadShootingMaster well yes...the hobbit. Though I'm receving recent news that the mexican Guillermo del Toro is not going to make it?!!! why the hell is that?!!!!

  • @NickRiviera10 that is so old news, toro bowed out of The Hobbit on May 31st.

  • whats with this stupid singing poptart ad

  • James McAvoy does have some hobbitish aura around him.

  • Oops my first comment actually DID go through.

  • is anybody else terrified? i mean ..ive heard so many things like...guillermo is so unique and original....but i dont think we need a director to be unique... we need a director to be accurate. not to say that he dosnt know what hes doing but there is a time an a place for experimentation. not when the characters have already been established...but its hollywood..so like all the rest this was fucked since jump street

  • @ChristBurner I agree with you about Hollywood. But listening to some of Del Torro's interviews he says he will be focusing more on being accurate than any thing else. From what I have heard from Del Torro I can assume he knows whathe's getting into and is taking it very very cautiously. But yes, you never know. I'll be there opening day regardless.

  • @Zingerphile ...all we can do is hope...see you opening night .....

  • Martin Freeman is most deserved to play that Bilbo character.

  • i dont think it was a bad idea for peter to hand in the script to del toro, because i am a fan of del toro's work and of peter jackson, peter jackson is more into the storyline and guillermo's skill for the way he creats his monsters and characters is amazing and unique, i think guillermo will do a great job

  • george w would do a great hobbit......

  • Mckally Cualkin should be one of the elves !

  • He's the elve with a drugaddiction. ^^

  • Peter was obviously not at all following what happens in the books, but you gotta admit they are all great movies regardless. Great dialogue, special effects the whole LOTR story is just amazing and you really get into the characters.

  • Well just know this, whoever directs the movie(s) will have know problems making it a badass one. The reason there's to much money that could be made or lost so aint know clown gonna be doing it. I mean the book is the script, Sh%t I could direct and make the studio money.

  • As long as it's anyone else but that idiot Peter Jackson directing then fine. He'd have hobbits shooting lasers in this one, if given half a chance. And to think that the scriptwriter, his 'wife', got an oscar for the way she butchered the Lord of the Rings... Tolkien is spinning in his grave.

  • @tmage01 Are you kidding?!! jackson made a masterpiece, you havent even seen the movies if you think that

  • They were good movies, they just werent the Lord of the Rings. He changed so much that it was was like watching something else entirely. He butchered chars like Eowyn, and Denethor. He lingered on things that weren't important, like his 10 minute scenic tour of his country near the end of the 3rd movie and then complained he didnt have enough time to include things that should have been in it.Read the books. He had a classic to work from. He got some right but it should have been so much more.

  • @tmage01 I agree with you about Hollywood. But what Iv'e heard from Del Torro interviews he's very very cautious and is approaching it with much care. He says he knows what he's getting into. He explains his plans are to have these two movies flow seamlessly into the fellowship. But yes, you never know. I'll be there opening day regardless.

  • @tmage01 You're making the classic mistake, one that people always risk making with a movie that came after a book and is BASED ON the book. Don't go watch the LOTR movies as if Tolkien himself directed it, it's the story through the eyes of Peter Jackson.

  • I meant director of course...

  • @dadedraak he si also producer too, screenwriter aaswell, he is talented

  • Peter Jackson is still the best producer on the planet, so it saddens me that he is not going to do The Hobbit. Peter is just the man...

  • @dadedraak I agree

  • As excellent director as he is... I just can't see him doing The Hobbit to The Lord of Rings standard. He's just a completely different person to Pete and that will effect the movie significantly, whether it's positive or negative is yet to be seen.

  • He better not fuck these movies up ive been waiting for The Hobbit movie for a long time

  • to clarify my last comment...I meant part 1 should be 3 hours and then part 2 should be 3 hours

  • P.S. the length of both parts 1 and 2 of the Hobbit should be about 3 hours...Im serious...its the perfect length

  • hey Del Toro...The Hobbit is the only project u should give a shit about for the next 4 years...this is the MOST important pair of movies (they are making 2) u will ever make...LOTR fans everywhere will hate u if u make bad prequels for the best 3 movies ever. I cant wait for the hobbit movies...dont let me and hundreds of millions of people around the world down

  • I AGREE!!!!!!!!! AHHHHH~!!!!!!!!

  • martin freeman looks more like a hobbit than mcavoy.

  • McAvoy would be a perfect fit!

  • I think McAvoy would be perfect!

  • come on del toro leave all the stuff you are doing right now and focus on the hobbit =D

  • i want del toro to make a hobbit cameo role. hes a beast.

  • McAvoy please. Not Keating or Radcliffe for fuck's sake!

  • god i love guierlmo del toro's films but I still cant get over the fact that the man who made my favorite trilogy of all time is not taking the reigns again for the prequel which happens to be my favorite book of all time. I know he is going to do a fantastic job but I still have alot of fear of certain actors not returning and the feel changing.

  • didikaramba is right hee's supposed to be a lot younger...so...it really doesn't matter

  • He doesn't even look lile Bilbo.... why can't the old bilbo play bilbo??

  • I'm afraid he has gotten too old. I think he's 78 now. Perhaps a bit too old to be the main character in an epic fantasy. D:

  • @UsherMoore: because "the Hobbit" takes place some 60 years before "The Lord of the Rings", when Bilbo was in his Fifties. As hobbits age differently to humans, this would mean he would look like a man in is early 30s. How do you imagine Ian Holm should play a guy who is less than half his age? Do it all by CGI? Might look a little strange.

Just in case you haven't read this statement the about 100 times it has been made before.

  • Did you see Bejamin Button?

Everything is possible these days, i just think that he's the man for the job, or at least someone who looks just like him... but, im sure that P.Jackson & Del Torro knows what they'r doing :)

  • @UsherMoore He doesnt want too

  • because hes old

  • @UsherMoore

you are correct, McAvoy does not look like Bilbo in the original trilogy, but he looks a lot like Elijah Wood. Therefore, to me it would be believable that he would be Frodo's uncle.

  • Why the hell do you have such loud background-music? Freaking annoying

  • he would need to gain some weight. obviously.

  • some news to whom it may concern. gandals is back elrond is back gollum is back. and they will start with the white council for those who know what that is. and the journey of gandalf to dol guldur. ending in the hobbit.

  • i hope he's not going to fuck this up!!!!!!!!

  • @patlboyle He only fucked up on blade 2

  • Comment removed

  • I think they should go with an unknown, definitely... but if they were to go with someone better known, James McAvoy would suffice.

    Del Toro is funny!

  • What happened to Ian Holm?

  • He's too old. :(

  • he wasnt that young in the lotr, besides in the hobbit he doesn't technically do that much that would tire him etc.

  • He's seventy eight - he did also have cancer a few years ago - I mean, it would be amazing if he could be Bilbo don't get me wrong, but for whatever reason he doesn't want to. Also at the beginning of the Hobbit Bilbo is 66 I think, isn't he - which is like 40ish in human years.

  • actually he was 50 and 51 at the end, I know that makes it worse for me, but I hate when people change actors for the same characters, that is why the Hunt for Gollum sucked

  • Yeah I wish Ian Holm could carry on his role cause he perfected Bilbo in the LOTR and was the greatest person they used but he's too old now... Pity...

    TOLKIEN AND MIDDLE EARTH FOREVER!!!

I also hope they release 'The Silmarillion' which is all before these about the beginning of middle earth etc... Which would be totally kickass if they keep the feel from LOTR...

  • maybe he can find a look-a-like

and with out a random accent

  • holy shit is that peter jackson? I havnt seen him since the bonus features on lotr hes lost weight.

  • @JaceRendal oh yea, right after ending LOTR he got on a yogurt diet and dropped a whole bunch of weight.

  • @JaceRendal

    no it isnt.

  • @JaceRendal do u really think peter was a fat ass mexican LOL

  • @JaceRendal How could that be Peter Jackson if they ask him if he would be working closely with Peter Jackson? No dude, that's Guillermo del Toro, who directed the Hell Boy movies. Jackson could not have named a better director for the 2 Hobbit Movies. Del Toro has always executed tremendously as a director, and loves to REALLY tell the story in a tasteful an riveting manner. I am very excited about this project.

  • haha "Tokin" DUMB BITCH!!!!!

  • Of course McAvoy.. I mean what did Tolkien know creating adult heroes. Didn't he know that teenagers won't buy as much popcorn if they have to watch boring grownups? Why not find roles for Paris Hilton and Lady GaGa. And how about that kid from high school musical as Gandalf? And, instead of BagEnd, Bilbo could be living in Laguna Beach and maybe have a really cool Porsche. And instead of finding the ring , maybe he can find a gift certificate to Neiman Marcus for a free shopping spree...

  • Del Toro already chose Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, and Hugo Weaving to reprise their roles. So I think we can trust del Toro so far.

I don't think he'd cast an idiot like McAvoy.

  • That's the problem with writing things out on here. You never know the tone of someone's writing. I'll assume that you're being sarcastic?

  • @neoperseus wtf

  • How stupid is this woman...calling Tolkien 'Tokin.'

  • oooooooh! this is going to be cool! can't wait! but I guess this means I had better start reading.

  • He did say in another clip that it will be 2 movies, the 1st one will be his style then he said the second movie will transition it self to Peter Jackson's style of Directing...He said he was excited about that.

So it makes me think that Maybe the 1st movie will be Narrated by the Original Bilbo on Lord of the Rings and have another actor play his character.

So will it be like as if we were imagining it through a young hobbits point of view?

Makes sense because the Hobbit was always for kids.

  • woop its gonna be nuts!

  • Does anyone think that ths guy sounds a bit like Marlon Brando in Godfather?

  • I like this guy, but come on!!.. Bilbo Baggins is a middle aged hobbit!

    This scot is too young!

  • actually, bilbo is 50 and wih hobbits that is about our age 20-30, it's their coming of age and bilbo was the age that frodo was when he went on his adventure.

  • Dont forget that Peter Jackson himself CHOSE del Toro to work with the movie, to produce him on an outstanding budget and has been wanting to work with him for years. So there is something in this arangement, cuz jackson is putting his baby into his hands and wants to see a different product, one that he wouldnt do.

  • Because Peter Jackson has faith in Del toro...Don't let us down Del toro. I think Del toro will make him proud.

  • the scenery, the actors are going to be the same. its the feeling that u get from the movie thats going to be different, which is perfect, because lort is a huge emotional struggle for the characters, the plot of the hobbit itself cannot compete with that of lort in this point. what makes the hobbit good close to lort is its tinge of fairy tale, its supposed to be an exiting adventure, the sort of which bilbo will want to go again, and that is the type Toro manages to portray really well.

  • gonasay,

    have u actually read tolkien?

Jackson did an awesome job, and the movie ended up even better than the book, but he did make it his own and not tolkiens! the amount of poetic liberty taken was amazing, even for movie adaptation standards.

  • Del Toros Take on The Hobbit show prove to be amazing,he is a Hollywood outsider just like Jackson.I am realy excited to see what they come up with.

  • btw Ian Mckellen signed on as Gandalv

  • Peter Jackson is a way better director then del toro... Hellboy movies whas nothing special, Jackson put an incredible amount of detail to the landscape of middle earth in LOTR and he is a great director... if del Toro fails making The Hobbit as good as LOTR i am going to freak out.

  • jesus give a person a chance they havent even started making the movie yet for fuck sake and del toro has made many awesome movies.

  • I don't think King Kong was very good eiether but that doesn't mean Peter Jackson's not a good director. Guillermo del toro is a good director also and Peter Jackson admires his work so that has to count for something. I loved Pan's labyrinth and The devil's backbone so I think he will make this great.

  • del toro is an amazing director better than jackson, he is more of a visionary director wait and see

  • yes, but the hobbit wont fit in at all with peter jackson's work - and that lack of continuity will most likely leave a luke warm experience.

Jackson put an incredible amount of detail into the LOTR. it's easy to critise, but he did a phenominal job

  • Your misunderstanding what he is saying. He is not saying that he wont stay true to Tolkiens work,he is saying that he will use his own style more than Peters.Peter didnt just do it Tolkiens way. How could he? He used his own style, check the behind the scenes footage of LOTR and youll know what I mean. Del Torro will use his own style of filming and why shouldnt he?! Peter didnt hire him to make it so that he could copy himself now did he?Del Torro also loves Tolkiens books, hell show it justice

  • @Gonasay That's stupid of you to say, you haven't even seen what he's going to do and you're already ripping on him. He's done a great job in other movies. They would not have given him the chance to direct this movie had he been a brainless hollywood director. Del Toro is great and if anybody else had to direct the hobbit other than Peter Jackson I'm glad it's him.

  • if Peter Jackson doesn't do it, it shouldn't be done AT ALL. It was Tolkein's life work, and so it should be Peter Jackson's... nobody else can do it justice.

  • oh dear. this guys probli gona ruin the hobbit... it should feel like part of the same film... ian holm, ian mckellen, andy serkis, hugo weaving etc...

u see a lot of things in LOTR that link to the hobbit, u see bilbo in golums cave, u see thorin's map, the 3 petrified trolls etc. this guys gona have to pay extreme attention to detail to get it right

  • he should definatly be bilbo bagins!!

  • He kind of is changing it and isnt.

He said in an interview that the first hobbit film will be very much in his style, his interpretation etc, but the second film hes going to interpret jacksons style so it feels it is leading into LOTR.

  • i dont see anyone else doing the hobbit but peter jackson i really hope this guy doesnt change the style of LOTR it just wouldnt seem right

  • He's went far since Shameless

  • Crossing my fingers

  • Yes! I am sooooo for James Mcavoy to be the Hobbit he has a hobbit face and he was a good actor as the goat guy in the lion the with and wardrope movie! sorry don't know the actual names jeje

  • 'the fawn/mr.tumnus' is his character in 'the chronicles of narnia: the lion, the witch and the wardrobe' :D

  • McAvoy is a solid actor and if he gets the role i'm pretty confident he could pull it off.

  • i have a great feeling about this. the hobbit has a much defferent feel than the lord of the rings books and it will be great to see another vision of middle earth, particularly from the creator of "Pan's Labarynth". plus peter jackson is probably still burnt out on hobbits and wizards after the herculean effort of the 3 Lord of the Rings movies.

  • 2:07 onwards put a shiver down my spine. I have a bad feeling about this.

  • Omg!!!!!!!!!!!!! No peter Jackson no this one will look terrible.

  • i hope he will do a good job, Peter is a genious, i dont know if that guy can get up to that leverl. let's pray that the Hobbit will be as good if not better than the LOTR, one of the best movies ever made

  • peter jackson looks like a hobbit himself ;D

  • i wonder if Peter jackson is going to add the scenes with tom bombadil & the battle scenes with Elendil that were shown briefly in the beginning of the Fellowship of the Rings.

  • id like to see eric idle play tom bombadil.

  • I look forward to seeing what Guillermo del Toro brings to the story. Both the Hellboy movies were great fun. He is a capable story teller. Sounds like a great fit to me.

  • Del Toro says that shootings and everything will be like Peter Jackson's stuff. And I heared that Peter Jackson is in the crew ,too with Del Toro. And I heared Andy Sarkis will be Gollum and Ian McKellen will be Gandalf again. And McAvoy is the best actor who can play Bilbo so this will be a great movie!

  • he is a realy good directer but i dont no if he is right for this movie

  • The studios should have stayed with jackson.

  • We are missing the main point here. Jackson CHOSE del Toro. He would not have chosen him if he did not have faith that he would create an amazing prequel to LOTR. This man directed both Hellboys, Blade II, and let's not forget Pan's Labyrinth. He won't fail "The Hobbit".

  • Well, in all fairness, those were all DESCENT films; Pan's Labyrinth is the only one that was just great. Hellboy II was complete shit.

  • hellboy 1 was a cool film because it got it right with visual style, but the other one was really lame

  • Jackson didn't choose him, Century 21 Choose him

  • There and back again! cant wait

  • obviously it won't be the exact same but Toro did say he wanted to make it as much his own without ruining the world that was made before. I look forward to seeing the similarities but more the differences. I mean common people, the director switch is a pretty good match, and tame at that. Its not like it would be if they decided to let Tom Burton or Woody Alen direct it! LOL!

Advice: for those havent seen toro movs: watch Pans Lab and Helboy and think of LOTR film feel. Hobit is gona be gret

  • No no no!

Let Burton stick with more bizarre fare like ... anything by Lewis Carrol but not Tolkien. I trust Del Toro and think his past work indicates a better ability to translate Tolkien's style. Of course that's just my opinion.

  • lol i was only kidding xD

  • Whew! You got me. While sarcasm is not always obvious in writing it would have helped if I'd read the whole thread. :I

  • There is a major factor to Del Toro making the hobbit.

-They have finally decided to do the film, AND another connecting film to the trilogy from the hobbit. This means that Del Toro has a boundary. If it was not connected he would most likely be free to make it whatever he wanted. but thats not the case; the boundary is that he has to keep a 'seemless' transition between the two movies meaning he will purposely keep all movies similar. His and Jacksons movies.

  • you people are retarded del toro will bring a new fresh look and peter jackson will be just as much part of these movies as he was with the trilogy.......

  • i know, people seem to be missing the point of using del toro, some people don't really get why they chose him, its funny really. he is perfect for the hobbit, its a really wise decision they made.

  • PETER JACSON RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • :D wasn't blade 2 made by him?

  • you might be able to get away with casting som1 else for bilbo BUT NOT GANDALF!!!! he's ageless so it doesn't make sense that itd be played by som1 else....he wouldnt look different!!!!

  • Kevin Bacon

  • Wow this breaks my heart, if peter jackson isnt directing/ Writing the hobbit PLUS the original Bilbo and Gandalf arnt in it A it wont make sense and B it will suck it should just not be made if its not gonna be true to the Lord of the Rings thats already changed so many people

  • the original bilbo SUX and it wont be in movie anyway Jan MCkellen(gandalf) will be in the movie and Viggo Mortensen(aragorn ) too and saruman too so stay calm

  • Jan MCkellen lmao

  • u don t love him ? :D

  • Peter Jackson is making it along with the director. Calm down.

  • are you serious? aren't they using Ian Mckellen? and yeah peter jackson should be directing it

  • WHAT why do you think jackson should be doing it? it would be the same thing over again. del toro is perfect have you ever seen any of his movies? he is the guy for the job. no doubt i would put money on it.

  • Its supposed to be the same thing again because thats what it is. its a different story but the same world, so if there was a different director heaps of things would change cos he is trying to make it his own.. so the continuity wouldnt be good. Look at harry potter they have had 4 separate directors in the series and you can tell cos actors and sets and costumes change like every movie. but no i havent seen any of del toros movies so yeah im sure hell be fine its just id prefer Jackson

  • But that is where you are wrong, i understand what you are saying about different stories, same world but infact the world is very different in the hobbit. sure its still middle earth, but alot changed in that gap between the hobbit and rings. its a much smaller tale, more fairtale like than the huge epic lord of the rings is. its a more smaller feel, sure it has its moments, but its more like a little adventure, so really the worlds are different. Check out pan's labyrinth, and the orphanage.

  • thats money for you...hollywood clowns think you cant sell a film unless someone young and "hot" plays them...

i hate personnel changes as well...sometimes it cant be helped in the case of a death of an actor...Dumbledore, and the cookie lady from the Matrix....though more often than not its just stupid...eg; Saavik from Star Trek..

  • yeah he cant be Bilbo. Bilbo's a middle aged hobbit. Hes 50 not 25! I think that Ian holm(Bilbo in LOTR) would make a great Bilbo. I would also accept martin freeman (main guy in hitcher hikers guide to the galaxy) he looks hobbity enough and he also is closer to the age.

  • Bilbo may be 50, but so was Frodo when he started his journey. Hobbits age differently from humans.

  • youre preaching to the converted here mate!..i hope jackson just decides to do it himself..i know alot of folks werent happy with his style...(and the tom bombadil thing..--he really DOESNT add to the story)

but he should just do it..and have Holm do it too!

  • hitcher hikers guide to the galaxy- i think i can say that you are the only one who has even heard of this, but yes Ian Holm would be good

  • Benicio Sucks so far I hope he prove me wrong with the hobbit

  • @nachorangel Who the F*** is Benecio isn't he that Spanish actor from Vicky Cristina Barcelona lol

  • lol u r right! bad typo I always confuse Benicio with Guillermo after all they have the same last name, so let me correct myself. Guillermo sucks so far, but I seriously hope he proves me wrong with The Hobbit adaptation, I don't want that the LOTR trilogy will be ruin by a dishonorable prequel, I don't want to witness another destruction like episodes I, II & III did to Star Wars.

  • FYI the Spanish actor who played Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona was Javier Bardem, Benicio del Toro is a Puerto Rican actor winner of an academy award and has a well known career as an actor.

What I did was an honest mistake, you on the other hand are an ignorant who can't differentiate a Puerto Rican from a Spanish, hell I bet you even think Spain is a part of Latin America. So before you make your "witty" remarks, double check your facts before.
